  1. Hey Larry I have Been going to Burt lake for about 12 years now and all I fish for is Smallies other than when I go into the rivers for Northerns. My parents have a cabin a mile up the road from Hoppies. I know it seams like cheating but the best way to catch smallies is by finding a drop off from 8-10 feet to about 16-18 feet. anchor right on the ledge and drop a night crawler down a foot from the bottom with a slip shot weight a foot up from the crawler. I also cast out with either lures or the same crawler set up and reel into the boat to get any roamers attention. I am not joking when I say that my father and I catch massive small mouth, and tons of them using this method. Finding rock beds in about 6 to 10 feet of water are also great places to fish for bass with crank baits or spinners. There is a GREAT shallow rock pile on the east middle side of the lake where the lake humps out (you'll see what I mean if you look at a map) go on a bright day and just drive around till you see the rocks. Drifting over that area is a great way to catch some big ones. Ill try to post some pictures later. Good Luck
