  1. I prefer a split grip for the rod. I will order all three of them from TW and keep the best I am also planning to order the creme-de la creme rod to compare and see what more I would get for a 400 USD rod. Any recommendation on what that reference rod could be? THanks!
  2. So here are the models that I am considering. What do you guys think? I am not sure if I should go for a MH or a M, Fast tip or extra fast tip. * Daiwa Zillion Worm/Jig Rod 7' Med Hvy * G. Loomis E6X Casting Rod 7'1" Med Hvy 853C JWR * St. Croix Avid X Series Cast Rod 7' Med Hvy Just from the specs and the warranty wise, I am tending to the St. Croix right now. I really want to tread myself for a hard time at work in the last months and therefor would like to get a really sensitive and light quality Jig-Worm rod (that I would also use for Spinnerbaits and Jerkbaits). Thanks again!
  3. The more I think about it the more I have to admit that it might have been a user error... So, I have decided to upgrade either G.Loomis or the St. Croix. Recommendations? I would be using it with a Lew's Speed Spool 7.1:1. I hope to build a very light and sensitive 'Jig-Worm-Light Spinnerbiat' Rod. Thanks for all your help!
  4. I will call them and see what they say. I think it was a defect of the rod. If they make me an offer to upgrade I will take it, otherwise I will look into: 1. G. Loomis E6X Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy 843C MBR 2. Avid Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy X Fast Which would you choose and why? I am not expecting a warranty to replace me a rod that I accidentally or purposely damaged. But I expect that warranty to give me a replacement of the rod (for now copay, as the Dobyns asks for).
  5. Thanks guys. Here is where my head is at. Lets say I pay 70 USD (50 USD + shipping) and I get an upgrade, the warranty is still the same, meaning that I had to pay 70 USD again if the rod broke. So, why not pay a bit more and have a care-free warranty and a better rod on top of that. Options: 1. G. Loomis E6X Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy 843C MBR 2. Avid Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy X Fast 3. Daiwa Zillion Worm/Jig Rod 7' Medium 4. Other options that you guys tell me Cheers.
  6. Hi there, went to my local water today and hooked into a nice 3.5 pounder. When I had the fish almost landed I tried to flip him to shore. During that process my Dobyns Fury rod broke at 3/4 of the length. I liked the rod. It was fairly light and sensitive for the price (115 USD inlc tax). Now I am debating with myself if I should just pay the 50 USD plus shipping and get it replaced or spend that money on something better. It is the Dobyns Fury Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy. I used it for Jigs, worms and smaller spinner baits. If I invested in a new rod (for the same purposes) I would be looking for something that is even light, more sensitive and has a better warranty. --> Something in the ball park of this: G. Loomis E6X Casting Rods With the Labor Day savings coming up, what would you do? Thanks for your thoughts!
  7. Do you mean those: 22nd Century Triple Trout Cut Tail ?
  8. Thank you sir for your feedback! I think I am gonna pick two of the 168s. Any particular recommendation on colors? I am in Northern Cali (the lakes here have Blue Gill and Shad)
  9. Sorry, should have mentioned this! I would throw the Glide Bait on my swimbait set up (Phenix Rods M1 Inshore, Lews Inshore BB2, 25 pounds AbrazX). I can eaily throw up to 6 oz swimbaits with it. Thanks for the help!
  10. Hi there, I want to get into Glide Bait fishing this year. I already have a Jackall Gantaral (Blue Gill). But I would like to get 1 or 2 more. Any recommendations? Thanks!
  11. Thank you. I did not know that. For inshore I would like to throw paddle tail swimbaits, bigger spoons (2oz) and some heavy top water. So, a 400 series is too big, you say for casting? I already have a Lews Inshore 2 and a Daiwa Coastal. I sometimes feel though that they are a bit underpowered when I throw the very big bites or fight a big inshore fish.
  12. Thanks guys for this overwhelming response!!! I narrowed my search down to the following options and would love to get your thoughts on those: * Daiwa TD Luna Casting Reel (TDLUNA253L) - Smallest line capacity * Calcutta B Series (CT400B) - Seems to be great for big swimbaits and saltwater * Calcutta D Serioes (CT401D) - Almost 160USD more expensive than the B series. Would it be worth to save a bit longer in order to get this reel? Thanks again. Best, Seb.
  13. Thanks for your response. I am wondering why I see so many swimbait pros still using the round version then?
  14. Hi all, I will be in the market soon for a new reel. I am looking to get a reel that I can use for big swimbaits and also use when I am doing inshore fishing (from the kayak or from the beach). I see a lot of guys do their big swimbait fishing with round bait casters. I am not super familiar with those reels, so I was hoping to get some expert input from you guys on this. The benefits that I see from those round bait casters are: * bigger line capacity * more torque given the smaller gear ratio What are the cons, besides weight? My budget would be around 200-330 USD. I am planning to either use 25# mono of fluro on it. Thanks for your recommendations. Cheers, Seb.
  15. Nice info. Do you happen to have links to those pedal drive yaks? I can not find anything on the web with your buzzwords. Thanks!
  16. I agree with the concern here. What other kayaks on the market offer any pedal capabilities that would compete with the mirage drive?
  17. Where did you hear that? I like the durability of the Hobie PAs and Outback. Though if there is something around the corner that is lighter and more affordable. I would be very open to it!
  18. Hm, from what I am seeing, the Mirage drive looks superior to this!
  19. I love the PA14, because of its storage, standing abilities and durability. The mirage drive is nice as well. Since I want to use the Kayak mainly for fishing (and I love the higher seat of the PA14). Why did you switch from the PA to the Outback?
  20. Interesting! I was almost settled on getting a Hobie Pro Angler 14. But if there is something more affordable around that does basically the same thing, I am listening! Any links to the yak with the paddle drive out yet?
  21. Hi there, I live in Sausalito (across the Bay). Bank fishermen though. Looking into a Hobie myself right now. How do you like the i9s? How far are you going out with them on the Bay?
  22. Thanks guys! The Yak looks good, but I really would like one with pedal drive. The idea of paddling and having my hands free is very intriguing
  23. Thank you for your response. What do you think is contradicting in my requirements? Yeah, two Kayaks would be idea, but since my girl is probably only joining every now and then, it does not make sense to get her a own one. I was playing with the idea to get a one seater and hook her up at the back with the 'Sevylor Colorado HF Angler Inflatable Kayak' that we have. But I am not sure if that is the best idea and might not be fun at all'. What is the big con for using a tandem Yak as the Hobie Pro Angler 17T on my own? Hard to move it, speed, ability to steer? Thanks all.
  24. Generally speaking this is a good idea, though I like the idea of combining the fishing-nature experience with some cardio. Also I feel that I am much more flexible with a Kayak, since I would be able to go on Lakes/Rivers and the Ocean without having those to be set up with a ramp. Thank you though for your thought!
  25. It better is for this amount of though... I do not think that I can bring this kind of money up for a Kayak. Also, as Darren mentions, the way it handled solo would be an important point. Not sure my girl is up to 6+ hour tours on the water just for fishing... plus she is afraid of the White Sharks, since the 'attack' near Alcatraz..
