  1. Just now saw this and I know it's kinda late, but here are my thoughts. I've since moved from mono to fluoro on a lot of my presentations. If anyone here also uses Trilene let me know if this makes sense it terms of a comparison. Invisx - Like Trilene XL, use it mostly for spinning tackle/ned rigs or when I want to make long casts in fairly open water with jerkbaits. Red Label - Like Big Game, My all purpose moving bait line, cranks, spinnerbaits, bladed jigs etc. Abrasx - Like XT. Heavy cover, flipping, football jigs around rocks. Sometimes I'll use it as a leader for c-rigs. Does that make sense to anyone?
  2. @OkobojiEagle Thanks man. I've since moved away from using the flukes.Using 4" Keitech swimbaits in any subtle color on the spinnerbait have been producing a bit better for me.

  4. This is gonna sound odd, but I would grab one of the $1 spinnerbaits from wally world. I usually grab white with the willow blade. The skirt is junk so I take it off and rig a shad color or white fluke onto the hook. That's my go-to lure when searching for smallies in clear lakes, working it over submerged islands and rip-rap.
  5. I use 12 and 15# big game for cranking and topwater/spinnerbait respectively. Haven't had any issues. Casts decent and no breaking issues whatsoever. Caught a few 12lb+ stripers and a 19lb flathead on the 12lb test. Left my worm rod at home one day and decided to tie on a texas rig on the rod with 15lb on it (7 ft mh fast action). It can work but the sensitivity really wasn't so great. I'm with Turkey sandwich on using braid. Although you sacrifice slack line sensitivity with braid, I get away with it by using hi-vis line and line watching. Right now I've got 20lb yellow powerpro on the worm rod. I use a 4' of the 12lb big game as a leader when t-rigging with braid.
  6. I use 30 to 50 lb powerpro with a 15lb trilene 100% leader. I used to use 15 lb big game as mainline, but switched to braid since I started throwing frogs and pitching jigs into cover with the same rod.
  7. If you havent gotten anything yet i would recommend a shimano citica 200g7. As far as the rod, both of those are great
  8. Forgot to mention i do keep a 9 foot panfish rod with 4 lb mono for float n fly when their jaws are really locked. All year round. Not just in the winter.
  9. I'm currently using a 4 rod outfit. 1) 6'6" mh fast. 7:1 reel. 50# powerpro. Frogs, big spinnerbaits, swimbaits, jigs, heavy c-rigs and heavy t-rigs. Sometimes ill use 12-20 lb flouro or mono leader depending on what im doing. 2) 6'6" medium. Moderate. 6.3:1 reel.12lb big game. Topwater, cranks, rattle traps, mediun spinnerbaits, shad raps, larger jerkbaits. Basically all my treble hook lure and anything inkeep moving in the water column. 3) 7" medium. Fast. 10lb gamma hi vis gold Lighter jigs/ t rigs, tubes, senkos, Smaller jerkbaits and other soft plastics. 4) 6'6" ml. Fast action. 2500 size spinning. 10-20 lb powerpro. Hi vis. Shakeyhead. Dropshot. Split shot, smaller weightless plastics. Using 6-10 lb fluoro leader. I use 8lb fluoro about 75% of the time. Though i have gone to 4lb in the dead of winter with clear water. I keep a spare spool of 6 lb mono if I decide to fish for bream or crappie, or if i decide to use small (less that 3") minno plugs. Oddly enough i seem to catch most of my bigger bass (4# and up) on this set up. Makes for a fun fight.
  10. Frog and jig. Try casting a frog out and stopping and twitching it a bit in those pockets/holes where the algae isn't growing. If I miss a hookset, I'll throw a jig out where the bass just hit and let it fall to the bottom. I use 50# braid. More often than not, when I pull a bass through i end up landing just as much algae/weeds as I do fish. (I.e. 3lb bass cover with just as much pond scum.)
