In my opinion, the spraying of chemicals has destroyed the "good vegetation" that our lake needs to survive. The unwarranted salvina panic and subsequent overreaction reminds me of what happened to Caney a few years ago. Fish need vegetation to thrive, period. If anybody else has a better explanation for the ecological destruction we are witnessing, I'm all ears.

Catt, I didn't see any grass, and that includes hay grass, milfoil, Ect. I fished mostly mid-lake from Lanan, 1215 thru Blue Lake up to Martinez on the Texas side. I'm wondering if some of the chemicals used to combat salvina has affected other vegetation? Or, maybe it's just too early?

Haven't posted in a while, but I read this thread on a weekly basis. Just got back from a weekend at the Bend. I am very concerned about the total lack of vegetation??? I've never seen it this bare. This is what destroyed Caney, and a few other great fisheries. Does anybody have an explanation on what happened? Our favorite lake will go downhill fast if we don't see a return of the vegetation that's critical to the health of the lake. Other than that rant, we did ok and caught most of our fish at staging locations on creeks with quick access to shallow spawning areas. I'll hang up now and look forward to y'all's theories on the vegetation issue.

Saturday should be a great day to fish. Pre-frontal, cloudy conditions will make the shallow bite explode. Wish I could go. Good luck!

Excellent report Catt. Bet them kids had a blast. The weather looks perfect for the next week. Just my luck, we had to fish during a winter blast! Keep the reports coming!

Well, had a much better afternoon today. The north wind decided to lighten up to only about 5-10 after 4pm. Me and my youngest son caught 15 or so in Lanan fishing the points and an occasional dock. Lots of Kentucky bass mixed in. My eldest son and his buddy fished just south of Pendelton Bridge and caught over 20 with the biggest being 6.8lbs. Not bad for post-frontal fishing. My eldest said they found the fish stacked up in the back of a creek fed cove. He said there were lots of big schools of shad moving back into shallower water. Caught most on watermelon red brush hogs. If the winds not howling in the morning we're gonna head back out. If we do, I'll post a report. Wanna thank you guys for keeping this very informative discussion going actively for so long. Very good information to be found in these 300+ pages!

My advice, don't get anywhere near Toledo until this gale force north wind is gone. Caught a few dinks this morning in 10-14 feet of water but not worth the fight against these brutal conditions. Also, it's tough to even find shoreline grass much less deep hydrilla. Really weird considering all the grass and pads this spring and summer???

I'm sitting at the end of a pier at the mouth of San Miguel and the lake has 3 foot swells and it's 10pm! Gonna be brutal tomorrow too. There's no end in sight for this northerly gale. Gonna try to fish the north banks on the big flats in the morning. I'll post a report.

Thanks ***atic, I hope you're right. I just have a hard time fishing post-frontal bass for some reason, but give me a good cloudy, warm day on Toledo and its on! I'll post a report on Monday.

Hey guys, I've been a lurker here for almost a year. I've been reading your very informative post and using some of yall's recommendations on the Bend. Finally decided to create and account and post because I'm bringing my kid to Toledo tomorrow, Friday 10-2, to try some bass fishing. Staying near 1215, and it looks like the weather is perfect for everything but bass fishing. Cool, clear, with a north wind is the kind of weather that usually skunks me at Toledo. My son has been looking forward to this trip for months and I'd hate to go 2 days without a fish! Question, do any of you have any suggestions for fishing the San Miguel/1215 area in these brutal, bluebird, post-frontal conditions? I'll hang up and listen now.
