Actual rod lure weight rating?
Thanks guys! I feel like u already knew the answer, and you guys just ensured that. I was really trying to make people aware that most baits are not the wait the package says. I found this out when fishing a 1/4 oz T-rig on my medium power rid and for some reason it felt heavy. The reason being the weight was a little off and the soft plastic was adding quite a bit of weight. So make sure your aware of added weight to your lures!

Actual rod lure weight rating?
I don't know if this has been covered here before. What does the lure weight rating in the rod actually cover? Let's use jigs for example: does the rating apply to a jig of the certain size, say 3/8. or is it the actual weight of the jig and trailer combined. Depending on the size of trailer, say a grub verse a bulkier craw, you can add quite a bit of more weight to the bait. so the question is does the lure rating on the rods apply to a certain weight, or is it just saying that it can support a jig of the 3/8 size and so forth. this can apply to many applications, such as all weighted soft plastics. So when fishing A 1/4 T-rig you also have to consider the weight of the bait as well.

New to Smallmouth Fishing
Hey guys, I've been fishing for largies my entire life, but this year I want to try and find me some smallies. Not really familiar with this species and what to look for to find them. I'm a bank fisherman so I'm used to fishing ponds and lakes. What do I need to look for to find quality smallmouth? I've been on google earth/maps finding creeks/streams and small rivers. I know fishing spots are closely kept secrets, but if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great. I live 40 min west of St. Louis. And would prefer spots within reasonable driving distance. thanks in advance

New guy
Hey all! Just stopping by to introduce myself. I've been fishing out of the St. Louis area all my life, mostly largies, but this past year I really decided to take my skills to the next level. I've really only fished with spinning gear. It's what I learned to fish on and being a recent college grad didn't really ever have the funds to buy a quality baitcast set up. Didn't want to go cheap. But I just bought a new setup that I'm waiting to arrive. This next year I'm wanting to really take my fishing to the next level. So I'm stocking up my tackle bag with all the essentials so I'm ready when the weather starts to warm in the spring! Can't wait browse the forum and learn new things.
