Catfish gut hooking problem
I just added a float to my line and had so so many bites, yet every single time I tried to hook one, I'd feel resistance for a few seconds like I got him then I'd just end up with an empty hook once I finished retrieving. So I attached a circle hook instead and finally caught one but gut hooked him again. I've tried yanking the rod when I see the bobber just go under, after letting it run a second and letting the fish really run with it for a while but I couldn't hook one without letting the fish swim for a good 10. Secs before setting the hook. Any advice on how long I should wait after seeing the bobber get pulled under before I set the hook?

Not yet no, I see lots of peacocks bass but haven't hooked one yet though

Catfish gut hooking problem
Do i need to bait the hook differently with a circle hook then? I think the reason i don't feel the bite is because i leave the line slack and have no weight on it, only the hook.

Catfish gut hooking problem
So i just caught 2 very nice white catfish using nothing more than a #6 aberdeen hook with a piece of bread at the end and some bread ground bait, but both times i couldn't get the hook out as i couldn't even see it when i looked down the fish. Ive tried using a 1/0 hook but i haven't got a bite with that size hook yet. I think I'm just not setting the hook at all as i don't really know what I'm feeling for because I find i get bites when i just leave the bread sat on the bottom of the lake, leaving the line slack. I have tried a carolina rig too so i can keep the line tight without moving the bait but again i don't really know what i should be feeling for in regards to a bite and set the hook. Any advice?

How many times have you lost a brand new lure first cast?
Unfortunately that can be hard in South Florida.

Never had a bite in South Florida lake
Feel kinda bad for gut hooking it, but there was no way whatsoever I was getting the hook out so I just cut the line.

Never had a bite in South Florida lake
FINALLY CAUGHT! Just caught a lovely 2-3 pound catfish with a simple #6 hook with some bread on the end. Threw a few slices crumbled up next to it and success! Unfortunately the fish inhaled the hook and i couldn't even see it down his throat, so i had to cut the line as there was no way of retrieving it.

Any recommendations for a good spinner bait then? Is the rooster tail classed as a spinner bait?

How many times have you lost a brand new lure first cast?
Ive only recently started fishing lakes after moving from the coast. Losing tackle was a rare occurrence for me, but since i have begun fishing a local lake i have lost an x rap, rat l trap, heddon torpedo and a 1.5 crank bait, regrettably 3 out of 4 lost on the same day.

Never had a bite in South Florida lake
Im sorry i would have no idea whatsoever how old the lake is, i have fished all times of day from dusk to dawn and through the night but had nothing. I started out with 5inch pro bait worms with small slip sinkers on a texas too.

Never had a bite in South Florida lake
So i live at the side of a lake. Its pretty deep in the middle and towards the edge it gets very shallow and weedy. I have visually seen sailfin catfish and some huge grass carp in there, but after fishing there for just over two weeks daily, i have yet to get even one bite. I have used every rig imaginable but i just cannot seem to get the fish interested. I know theres fish and i know others have fished here but i am yet to even get a nibble! I have tried everything from soft plastics, to float fishing, drop shots, crank bait, spinners and sweetcorn, hot dogs, dough bait, bread..etc. Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated, and I'm pretty sure i have seen some baby bass in there.

How many times have you lost a brand new lure first cast?
Just seeing them hanging on a branch out of reach is the worst

Well I certainly feel bad seeing you lost something, but I do have to say it makes me feel better hearing other people with similar stories!

So i just brought a new x rap and on my first cast it gotten snagged on something and my line snapped, i wouldn't feel so bad if it wasn't the 3rd time this happened. How many times has this happened to you? Maybe my line is just awful

Lure size and weight
There is quite a lot of vegetation, and a natural lake. I will shove a thermometer down a fish when i finally catch one!
