  1. Only went to Birdsong once so far this year and didn't catch anything but that was a month ago so it should be better now. Cassadaga is real pretty with lilly pads everywhere and all kinds of good looking cover. I was pretty young when I went and didn't catch much (if anything) but I'd like to think I've improved since then. Maybe I'll try it again someday but with Chataqua a little further down the road I doubt it.
  2. Sounds good Farmer. I'll send you a private message if I can figure out how to.
  3. Oh man that sounds like the perfect setup. Sweet!
  4. Hey thanks, if the weather is decent I'm hoping to get out sometime this week. Not much hope of catching anything this early but that's OK, I just want to go. I see a lot of kayaks in the river but never a canoe. My buddy used to have a canoe/trolling motor set up and we went to Glenwood Lake and the Alabama Swamps a few times. It was a great set up.
  5. Sure thing Chris. Had a good day today. Didn't get out fishing but got to spend the day playing in the boat and getting it ready to go. Got it cleaned up a little and got my new depth finder in today. I got sick of always having to leave the bow to see how deep it was so I bought another unit for the bow. I had a similar set up on my first boat and it was great so I think I'm going to love this. I have the same thing but bigger for my main unit so this one is easy to learn plus it came with a nice map chip that fits both units so that was a nice surprise. Can't wait to get it on the water and check it out! Hopefully next week.
  6. Dann Road is off Transit between County/French Road and Millersport right across from Bittermans Automotive. From what I read online you go down Dann Road and somewhere around the sharp bend there are marked trails back to the pond (might follow the power lines or something?). Satellite picture shows three bodies of water back there but I think everyone is talking about the biggest one. I haven't been to Cassadaga in years. Real pretty lake(s) just full of Lilly pads and other great looking cover but I never had much luck there. That doesn't mean much though, I never caught much at Silver Lake or Coneseus either and it sounds those are both great fishing. Here's another one of my maps . Dann Road is the one at the bottom of the ponds with the dogleg right where it hits that little body of water.
  7. I've read online that Dann Rd is public with hiking trails back to it. Fishing is supposed to be good but I've never personally talked to anyone who's fished it. Looks like a hassle to get to so I never bothered. Just gettin' old and lazy I guess. Years ago I'd have already been there AND fished the far side of it because that's always where the big ones are right? I used to always hack my way through the woods to get to the back side of every pond and puddle in town because I was always convinced the fishing would be better on the other side. Of course it never was. The pond at Ellicott Creek Park is usually pretty good but sounds like it's still too early yet. Should be good by now but my buddy was there Monday and said it was low, muddy, and fishless so far.
  8. If that is a serious offer I will probably take you up on it. I'd like to get out there and scope everything out before I bring the boat out anyway so hopping in the boat with you would just be a bonus. I haven't been to that lake in 25 years and even then I was in a row boat so I really don't know the lake at all. I'd like to get out with somebody who knows the water and can tell me any areas to avoid so I don't tear my lower unit off and, if he wants to give up a few fishin' spots while we're out there, well I guess that's OK too. I'd just like to learn a little bit about the lake so I can come down and not get skunked, brand new lakes are rough sometimes. Let me know what you think, thanks.
  9. Deadliest Catch Dangerous Waters Distant Shores Definitely in a rut with nautical themed shows that start with "D" but I also watch a lot of DIY network and love all the yard makeover type shows. My wife and I are also watching "The 80's" series on CNN (now that "The 70's" ended). Only decent fishing shows I still get are Babe Winkleman and Keyes Outdoors so I watch those sometimes.
  10. I've always wondered about that place on Dann Road but haven't been there yet. I think you could kayak in the overflow pond if you were cool about and stayed out towards the middle. I don't think you'd spook the fish so much as tangle everyone's lines if you got too close. I had a 16 footer in there once and that certainly got me some dirty looks. Some of the other guys on here have had their boats in there too but I wouldn't do it again.
  11. You can park within about 100 yards of either side, there are regular parking lots at each end. One side you have to cross a grass field and the other you have to cross a road with low guard rails. I usually park on the field side at the closest picnic shelter and walk the ridge back to the pond to stay out of that field. It's always muddy in the Spring. Pretty easy place to get to and all legal because it's in a public park so no posted signs. I have been checked for license by the D.E.C. there several times so make sure to have it with you.
  12. Thanks Farmer, you're the best. I swear you are the most helpful guy on here. And 42 fish in 2 hours???? Dear God I'll be there tomorrow! Just kidding, I'm still not ready. Hopefully soon. Thanks again!
  13. Glad to help anytime I can, heck, even I can't catch 'em all.
  14. Here's a bigger view. You can still see the launch up at the top left where it says "Sweeny St" and the pond is at the bottom left next to the "E" in the word "Google". That's the closest official launch that I know of but you may able to slip a kayak right into the pond or the creek next to it. I have no idea what you need to launch one, I've never done it.
  15. Google search "Deerwood golf course", there a launch right across the street. It's at Sweeny and Robinson right near where Robinson crosses the Boulevard.
  16. OK I have a couple of quick questions about Silver Lake for WWII Farmer or anybody else that might know. I would like to make a few trips there this year but am looking for the best way to get there. I'm only an hour away in West Seneca (little South of Buffalo) and the route I always take there is 20A but I don't think I can make that Warsaw hill towing the boat so I'm looking for an alternative. Looking at a map it looks like either 78 or 32 will get me there with less hills but I would like to know if those are decent for towing or if they're stone roads that will ruin my gelcoat. We used to camp at Jellystone so I know the roads up to that point but I don't know how they are beyond that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  17. I almost always fish the River up at the South tip of Grand Island out by Strawberry Island. I'll hit both the East and West River but can usually see Strawberry from wherever I am. I'll occasionally head down to the craziness near the mouth of the Canal but almost never get down to your part of the River.
  18. Oh wow bummer. I'm surprised the pike aren't in there yet. At least you got out, still better than not going. No hope for me until at least Friday. Picked up the boat today so may just skip shore fishing altogether this Spring and head right for the big water. I never have the boat this early but the guy called and wanted it out of there so I was happy to oblige.
  19. Truer words have never been spoken. I love fishing alone in the morning (or almost any time) watcing the fish rise, watching the birds, and just enjoying the peace and quiet. Having said that I still fish with a buddy most of the time.
  20. There are guys on here that love Silver Lake. Search around a little on this site and you'll find all kinds of talk about Silver and some other local places. I haven't been to Silver in years but it's definitely on the list for this year, sounds like it's pretty good these days. Here, try this link: Here's another good one for you: And one more:
  21. I'll wave on my way to Birdsong There's a pond/park/housing devolpment right down the road from there on Jewett Holmwood called Birdsong where I fish sometimes. Nothing big but a lot of little guys on a good day. Should be like 3 minute drive for you.
  22. Hey welcome aboard John! I see a lot of kayaks on the Niagara River so that might be a start for you. I would think the current would be a killer but I've talked to people who've done it and they say it's not too bad at all. I know a couple of shore spots out by Orchard Park but they're all terrible. There's another guy from O.P. on this forum who shore fishes alot so maybe he'll be able to help you a bit.
  23. We throw a lot of those double willow Booyahs in white on the River, catches a lot of fish. Gorgeous day today but stuck at work again. Lotta' trailers at the boat launch this morning but only saw a half dozen boats on the water, no idea where they all went. My buddy is out there now sending me reports, said they lost one laker so far and were heading for the Canadian shore of Lake Erie now.
  24. Just drove past Lake Erie and the Niagara River on the way to work, both were like glass. There were a couple boats already on the water and three more going in at the boat launch. I'm so jealous.
  25. Justjigger is livin' the dream there, what a set up! What part of the River are you on Jigger, Tonawanda, Grand Island, N.T?? We may have enough guys fishing the River to put something together this year, maybe some kind of meet up day or tournament of some kind. I was wondering the other day if any of us have been fishing the same place (like that pond at Ellicott Creek Park) at the same time without knowing it. It seems like every local guy on here fishes that spot so it's probably happened. Pretty nice day today but I have too many chores so it's a bust for me. Hopefully can find some time Mon/Tues to get out for a little while.
