Utah Fisheries Habitat Regeneration Project
Bassmasster Rob flashgaven and I have fished Utahs lakes for 15 years Ed 30. Moving here from Wisc. fishing the Missisippi pool 7 in LaCrosse With is where MLF just fished Lake Onalaska my home town you get an idea of my backround In habitat. These Pro,s were blown away. Habitat is what dictates the quality of every body of water on the planet big or small. My restoration meaning Utahan,s wish is to get our lakes back to the quality they were 10 years ago. Quail lake boasted the state record Largemouth and Crappie in Utah proving this pond was full of trees and brush and it was . Fact- In the last 10 years the brush has disapeared due to algie clinging to it resulting in pencil sticks. Crappie being brush habit specie and Bass and Bluegill and I may add Quail,s bluegills were big as a stering wheel and delious tablefare. Today Quail Lake is now closed half the day a big day for attendance is maybe 4 boats some days none. This lake 8 years ago was filled with bass boats- gill fisherpeople and trouters familys with smiles you couldnt remove with a Warner winch yes The loose of this backyard gem is a testamony to what happens when management ignores what local bass pro,s and panfisherman have been screeming about for years. If in the last 15 years just one Fisheries managers would have come to a bass tourneyment to participate in the catch and release procedure they would have been up to date to the very second by the real bioligist Bassmasters. What can be done to stop this tragedy I know you as the hard working Utah Taxpayers are right now Screeming at the top of your loungs? There are a number of right now steps you need to do to start imediate change Get your voice heard loudly through Get Connected PH No.801-538-1000 this number will connect You to the Goveners office. Utah,s right now issues are Lake habitat-lack of -Whiper introduction by the Millions as a management tool to controll chubs and shad populations resulting in the whipping out of our Smallmouth lakes. Another issue not to be be addressed as just another manegment tool is Poisoning . What Poison your asking your wife? Gunnlock being the latest victom to tanker loads of Rotenone to get rid of Smallmouth Bass thought to be a danger to the 3 endangered speices of Chubs in the Virgin river. Yes the Virgin that runs through you St. George, ens back yards. Fisheries were quated saying this terrible smally would thrive and flurrish in the Virgin river if washed over the overflow if a flood would happen again so we poison and close another southern Utah Gem. If you have driven down through the Gourge you sure have noticed the water is about ancle deep and liquid concrete when it rains Thrive and flurrish get real.Having a friend who works part time with DNR he recently found out a handfull of Largemouth is what was really found not smally,s meening more millions spent instead of raised in revenue by putting in habitat and bettering the fishing. Hope you can sleep tight tonight after that Good for Utah update' Keep your pets locked safely. You havent only heard a fraction of what is going on with or fisheries. Want to know? Utah Fisheries Habitat Regeneration Project
Utah Fisheries Habitat Regeneration Project To Regenerate Reservoir Habitat A restoration project of submerged steel pig fence cages filled with brush bundles All reservoir habitats have a limited lifetime as the organic matter decomposes over time. Utah reservoirs are weary due to loss of habitat and lack of habitat regeneration. Habitats comprised of man-made and organic structures: rectangular pig-fence steel cages filled with indigenous brush bundles and weighed down with natural local rock. These natural mini-habitats will attract and support plankton, baitfish and gamefish. Payoff is Good for Utah! Improved Fisheries, Improved “angler-use-per-year” for the State Parks, Parks Passes, Wildlife License Sales, Hotels/Spas, Restaurants, Convenience Stores, Recreational Vehicle Sales & Rentals, etc., etc., etc. Frustrated in Southern Utah: After having lived and Tournament fished the Midwest to include the Mississippi River, Wolf River, Lake Michigan, Madison chain and the Northwoods of Wisconsin all the way to the wonderful State of Florida for 40 years, we moved to the beautiful State of Utah and found the bass and tournament fishing here to be great. During the 15 years we have lived in Utah however, we have witnessed a decline in fish to a drastic extent. Mostly, this is due to the deterioration and loss of brush habitat without any effort of regeneration. We’re looking for help to regain the quality of fishing here in Utah. Will you help? First we need to get the word out. We’ve had numerous discussions with the regional aquatics manager for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, but need help to get him on board.
