  2. Greetings anglers! Just purchased a 7'1 ML St. Croix Legend Tournament Fast Action spinning rod. Is this a good rod for throwing tubes for smallies? And what other baits could I throw with this rod? Any replies help me out! Im eager to learn lol
  3. thanks for the info man, how long should the fluro leader be
  4. alright cool, any good braids you would recommend and what lb?
  5. do you think 8lb fluro would be good for this setup?
  6. Okay just googled it and makes perfect sense, theirs a creek that flows into the river that is a silt bottom where nice smallies like to sit, and most days the water is pretty clear so in that situation ill fish the exposed hook, but it times where I can't see the bottom, ill try the texas rig or stupid tube. But what size weight and hook size should I use when i would texas rig the tube?
  7. Honestly mike, this is gonna be my first experience fishing with tubes for smallies. What I think im gonna do is just use a 1/8 oz tube jig head and slide it into the tube with an exposed hook, is their a better way to rig these tubes?
  8. thanks for all of the replies! You guys make it tough to decide between MF or MLF. I know for a fact im gonna get an Avid instead of a premier at this point. Keep the replies coming!!
  9. you have been so helpful bro i appreciate it! last question lol, what are some good jig head brands and tube brands???
  10. Im pretty sure you have me convinced! Im gonna pick up the avid but should I get a 7ft MF or 7ft MLF? And also do you prefer a 1 piece or 2 piece rod??
  11. @WI_Angler1989 i think i've narrowed my rod selection down to the st croix premier, st. croix mojo bass, and the avid. Not sure what to get out of the 3, i've heard that the mojo bass rods are kinda cheap so its between the premier or the avid, not sure.
  12. @Goose52 i was referring to a spinning rod, and as for the actual weight, not sure. I would be throwing a 1/8 oz tube jig head with a 3.5 in or 4 in tube. I would probably be using 8 lb fluro as well.
  13. greetings anglers, would a 7 ft medium fast st. croix premier be the way to go if fishing 1/8 oz tubes for smallies in rivers? any reply helps, thanks and fish on!
  14. price range is under 250 for both rod and reel @Crestliner2008
  15. Greetings anglers! Just wanted to post this thread because I need help lol. What are some good rods for throwing 1/8 oz tubes for smallies in rivers? And a good reel to match? Any replies help, thanks!
  16. Ive been fishing for quite a few years now only relying on jigging a small powerbait minnow, and i've done great. But I want to expand my knowledge and arsenal and get into largemouth fishing. I've done some research and have came to the conclusion that I would mainly be fishing using the jig and pig method, and would also throw soft plastics and crankbaits too. I would be fishing from shore into ponds and lakes, but now the ro*** i've ran into is, what gear do i buy? I've mainly used spinning gear all of my life and want to convert into a baitcasting setup. Can any anglers out there suggest what rod and reel is a good combo for this style of fishing? Thanks so much
