  1. Saturday & Sunday are supposed to be 60 & 70 degrees. Im heading to Whitewater or Westwood. Which is better this time of year? I'm most familiar with Westwood but I don't ever catch anything above 1.5lbs there. What can I expect at Whitewater?
  2. Ive heard there are weekends with 200+ boats. I was planning on heading down this coming Thursday-Sunday but the weather isn't looking so great.
  3. Oh I forgot about Whitewater. Ive only fished there once, but that was during fall turnover so I got skunked lol. Maybe I'll try there. I'm glad to hear they haven't moved shallow on Summit yet. I was worried I'd been missing out haha
  4. Has anyone had any luck at Brookville Lake? I'm debating whether to kayak at Brookville, Summit, or Westwood this coming Sunday.
  5. What lake were you fishing?
  6. I completely agree. Westwood is a great lake to kayak. I have yet to catch a decent keeper there though, lots of 1-2lb bass. I'm in Muncie, I'd love to meet up with some other kayakers to fish sometime.
  7. Anyone fished Summit Lake or Westwood Reservoir yet this year? This is only my 2nd season bass fihsing. Does Indiana prespawn start around early April-ish generally?
  8. Fishing from a kayak, should I skip the early may trip? Will they all be deep on the main lake by then?
  9. Guys from Kentucky, are you seeing pre-spawn activity yet? Whats the water like down there?
  10. Well crap, by mid April I may completely miss the pre-spawn.
  11. What's everyone's top 5 lures for each phase of the spawn (pre-spawn, spawn, & post-spawn)? I don't know much about the spawn & post spawn, so here's my top 5 pre-spawn. 1: football jig & chunk trailer 2: suspending jerkbait 3: lipless crankbait 4: squarebill crankbait 5: Texas rig or pitching jig
  12. When does the pre-spawn usually heat up around there? I'm going the weekend of April 14-15-16, then again May 5-6-7. Any advice for me? Im fishing from a kayak if that makes a difference
  13. Last year I went during the draw-down in March. All of the spawning habitat was several feet above water on dry ground. We had horrible weather the second day & decided to head out early. This year the KDFWR said they are not doing a draw-down, so hopefully that will help. I am going mid-April as well as the first weekend in May.
  14. Thanks so much! Is it difficult casting accurately with a 7'4"?
  15. I've heard a lot of good things about the KVD rods. That's super affordable too. Which lures do you throw on which actions/powers of those rods? Wow! That's a fantastic price! Lemme see if I'm making sense of this. MH/F ~7'+: Lipless & Deep cranks M/M ~6.5-7': Squarebills Also I should have mentioned, I actually have a Veritas 2.0 (6'9", MH/F) Not the winch version. I've been using it for jigs, texas rigs, and spinnerbaits mostly. I know it isn't 7', but is this suitable for lipless & deep cranks? That way I'd only have the buy the squarebill rods. When you say you prefer less moderate, do you mean you prefer them to be on the faster side or the slower side?
  16. Hey guys, I need some rod suggestions. I'm looking to buy a general purpose crankbait rod. I'd say 50% of the time = squarebills in shallow cover (stumps, laydowns, rocks etc), 40% = Rat-L-Traps in weeds (some open water too), and maybe 10% deep cranking (probably not even that much). I'm wondering if I should get a shorter rod for more accurate casts to shallow cover, maybe 6' 6"?. With squarebills & Rat-L-Traps being my main lures, should I got Med-Hev/Fast, or Med/Mod? Any suggestions for a rod in the $100 ball park? I plan on pairing it with a Shimano Curado 200i. Thanks!
  17. Another question came to mind. After you run a crankbait through shallow cover (< 10ft), do you guys pick it over with a jig/craw?
  18. I just asked a similar question. Alot of good info here:
  19. Thanks for all the replies guy. Lots of good information
  20. From reading articles & posts here I think I've narrowed down my prespawn lure selection, but I'm not entirely sure how to determine which part of the season to use each one. Do any of you make this decision based on temperature? If so what water temps do you fish each of these at? Thanks guys! Jig/Chunk Suspending Jerkbait Lipless Crankbait Squarebill Crankbait Jig (Pitching) Swimbait
  21. Thanks for all the replies! I didn't have any luck, but my nephew caught a decent little guy on an 1/8oz jig head with a berkley power grub. (This kid could catch a bass using a rock)
  22. I am putting braid on my baitcaster. It says 40lb, but it also says "10lb Test Diameter"...So which is it? I've read 30-40lbs is a good starting point for baitcasters, but the 10lb Test Diameter is throwing me off. How do I know what the diameter is in inches?
