    Thanks for the replies I guess I'm on the right track. I worded the title wrong. I didn't mean if you buy, say a $150 rod that you buy $150 line. I just wasn't sure if I was missing something using $20 line on a $30 rod (seems like I should spend more on the rod or less on the line.). Thanks for the recommendation iabass8! I will look and buy the 20# powerpro.

    From the research I've done people recommend the berkley lightning or cherrywood rod a lot which is 25 or 30, but when I'm looking at braided line it's 20? Does that sound normal? I just fish from the bank at parks and little rivers I can find, so nothing serious. I've ordered a Pflueger President LE size 30 which should come today but I'm not sure which braided line to get from Walmart.
