Issue with humminbird helix 7 reading in deeper water
Yes, it makes no difference whether or not the motor as running. I had the same thought about the angle. I’ve tried moving it around and no luck. I spoke to humminbird again and they agreed with me that there is a good chance the transducer is simply defective and they’re sending me a new one to try.

Thoughts on castable electronic fish finders for bank, pier, jetty fishing
2 of my buddies bought deepers this year for ice fishing. One has very little experience fishing and thinks it’s the bees knees. The other is a veteran guide and has been fishing his whole life and doesn’t really like it. My thoughts after seeing them in use is; for your purposes (only bank fishing) they’re probably pretty cool and also basically your only option for using electronics. If you were to use it as a portable sonar for small boats and ice fishing there are wayyyy better ways to spend your money.

Issue with humminbird helix 7 reading in deeper water
This is my first season with a helix 7 SI. Earlier in the year when fishing mostly in depths above 10 or 12 feet it was working beautifully. The first time I used it in deeper water (22ish feet) with minimal structure I noticed a problem. I was getting a fuzzy read out of the bottom in my sonar and the DI and SI were all fuzz. Once I got back about 15ish feet it would go back to perfect clarity. It also seems to work when there is a significant piece of structure in deeper water. I messed with every setting I could think of as well as resetting to all factory settings and no luck. I tried humminbirds customer service and the guy I spoke to didn’t really have any great ideas. He suggested I go out on a lake and call them again, this is difficult for me as I live in a very rural area with minimal cell service. I thought maybe someone online would have had a similar problem and could help before I call them again or have to send the unit back? I couldn’t post the images I took of the problem on here as they were too large so here are links: https://ibb.co/J3ktgYb https://ibb.co/2Zh0ZW8 thank you, any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is a video I took of the problem. You may wanna fast forward to 30 or 40 seconds in https://vimeo.com/438365619/recommended

Best And Worst (Hardest) State To Fish?
I'm from Jersey and it's tough. It's great that you have a huge variety of types of waters and species to fish for. Living in North Jersey I could pretty much do any kind of freshwater fishing I could possibly want within a 30 minute drive...however none of it is really great. You have to work for what you catch for sure. Anyone who has ever fished the Monksville Reservoir knows what I'm talking about. Big lake with every kind of structure you can think of and the big fish to go with it but d**n if it isn't one of the toughest to fish.

Lake Wallenpaupack
I agree as well. I've only fished it twice (once was probably 20 years ago) and it seemed like a great recreation lake and not so much a great fishing lake. I wouldn't drive the 2 hours it would take me to get there let alone 4-5.

Hello again
Hey guys. I was on the site a while ago and I'm back. I've been out of the bass game for a bit as I've been living in the keys with the nearest freshwater being 5 hours away. I'm getting ready to move back up to the Northeast and get my head back in the game.
