  1. Clouds and wind are your friend for sure. Every tank (pond) is different, (depth, structure, shade, growth, population, etc), but I recommend starting any pond with a Texas rigged worm. It catches fish regularly, and on a new pond you can feel the contour to get an idea of what you're dealing with. The colors I consistently have luck with on Texas tanks (ponds) are red, blue, and green pumpkin.
