Finesse spinning blank recommendations
I'm not sure, the medium action rod I have (above) is the only one I've used for dropshot so far, and I like it but don't know any better. I've caught a few fish on it but haven't set the world on fire either. Don't most people like fast or x-fast for DS? On a side note, we went out on erie today again and drifted tubes & DS on ledges with no luck. Went and fished largemouth and my first fish on the crankbait rod I just built was a 15" walleye on a 3-5' squarebill in 20' of water towards the end of my retrieve....figure that one out lol

Finesse spinning blank recommendations
My current (and first) dropshot rod is a "B.A.S.S. outdoor america im7 ks7-345 6'6" medium action 4-10lb 1/8-3/8oz" that is/was my dads. I can't find anything about it online, but it fishes really nicely aND doesnt apear to be that old. But I'm not sure how well it is as a dropshot rod specifically because I have no comparison. So...should I use my current rod as my "light" rod and build a more drop shot specific rod? Or use my current as the drop rod and build a "light" rod? The blanks I've found in my price range are: $52 -MHX sj841, 6-10lb, 1/16-5/16oz, fast action, light, 7'0" $55 -MHX sj842, 6-12lb, 1/8-1/2oz, fast action, medium light, 7'0" $67 -MHX ds820, 4-8lb, 1/32-3/16oz, mod. fast action, light, 6'10" $69 -MHX ds821, 6-12lb, 1/8-3/8oz, extra fast action, light, 6'10" $48 -rainshadow revelation revs68l-sb, 4-10lb, 1/16-1/4oz, fast action, light, 6'8" $50 -rainshadow revelation revs68ml-sb, 6-12lb, 1/8-3/8oz, fast action, medium light, 6'8"

Finesse spinning blank recommendations
Thankyou everyone for the suggestions, I'll definetly look into them. And you'd be suprised how well you can cast 1/32oz jigs with 6lb fluorocarbon even on a cheap med. power rod. Me and my grandpa went out inside the break walls on lake erie a few weeks ago and the only thing smallmouth would eat was a tiny little chartreuse crappie tube on a 1/32oz underspin head. Even 2 1/2 inch tubes got ignored. That's why I've decided I need to atleast have a small assortment of 1/32-1/8 jigs and a good rod for them when I head up to the st.lawrence river in about a month for a college tournament.

Finesse spinning blank recommendations
Hello, I am thinking about putting together a simple, no bells and whistles, lightweight finesse rod to throw 1/32-1/8oz hair jigs and underspins for smallmouth. I'd also probably use it as a backup drop shot rod. I've been buying alot of mhx blanks recently, and was thinking maybe something from the spin jig series. But I'm curious what other options are available outside of the mhx family. I'd like to keep the blank under $70 ideally. Thanks!

How does a college bass club go about sponsors
I did a quick search of the topic and didn't really see anything, so figured I'd ask. My school just recently started a bass club, and we would like to have a few sponsors, especially since the school isn't giving us any $ for the first full year. Are there any companies that are known to sponsor college clubs? I know the big schools get sponsors through placing in big tournaments, but I'm wondering if there are any out there that are a bit "easier" to get.

St. Lawrence & Lake Champlain help
The st.lawrence river (clayton) is July 24th and the lake Champlain (Plattsburgh) is September 18th. The st.lawrence (Ticonderoga) is actually the championship of the colligiate cup so theres a good chance we won't make it to that one lol, we're only 3 members strong right now

St. Lawrence & Lake Champlain help
Hello all, I'm looking for some tips/ tackle reccommendations for fishing the St.Lawrence (Clayton and Ticonderoga) and Lake Champlain (Plattsburgh). I'm a member of our schools newly formed bass club (still very early stages) and we are trying to get into some of the nytbf colligiate cup tournaments. Problem being; I don't think there is a pre-fish, and none of us have ever fished up that way. We are all from wny or around rochester. So, I'm just curious how you guys fish these waters, and a general idea of the gear you'd recommend. I'd hate to drive 6 hours and get on the water to realize things like; I don't have a heavy enough bullet weight or jig, deep or shallow enough diving crank, small or large enough anything, etc... I know everyone always has an assortment of everthing but we are all broke college kids and can't really afford to stock up our boxes on stuff we probably won't use, and our school won't kick in funds untill next year. Any tips or reccommendations will be greatly appreciated, I know guys like to keep their most productive stuff secret, but we would just like a general idea of what to bring and what to expect.

Thankyou everyone. I wont say who, but one of the fellow members here was kind enough to give me a great deal on a used Tatula that i couldn't refuse.

Need help choosing first casting reel
Pretty much all around, but it depends on how it feels when it's done I guess. The blank itself has listed applications of "Flipping & Pitching, Spinnerbait & Buzzbait, Jig & Pig, Worming" - so I'll probably stick to those for the most part. But I might throw an occasional Frog or shallow-medium depth crank/jerk on it aswell. The blank I have is the 843 @~3:40 On a side note, I've grown up always using just whatever there is, so the odds are this will be my "best" rod and reel combo already regardless of what reel goes on it. Ive only really bass fished with whatever spinning gear my grandpa has (I think I remember him telling me his favorite worming rod was one he found in the water, rotted out cork and all) and my dad says he dosent think my grandpas ever spend $80 (approx cost of my build) on a rod in his life, and he has an entire basement dedicated to nothing but fishing gear.... My next build is definitely going to be a nice worming rod to give him as a gift, since a 4inch Texas rigged worm is our "thing". The other rods I've build were a 13' spey rod and a 14' centerpin float rod, both obviously primarily used for salmon and steelhead from october-may

Need help choosing first casting reel
Left hand retrieve, and thank you very much! So the lews and Laguna are crossed out, now its between the Revo and Krios (or anything you might be able to come up with). I was initially trying to stay under $60, but if there's something leaps and bounds better for not much more, i'm sure i could make an exception.

Need help choosing first casting reel
First things first, my name is Danny and i'm 20 years old, have been an avid fisherman my whole life, and i live in western new york. So...i have decided to build myself a casting rod (3rd build) since my college was just approved for a bass club (I'm making it the schools colors; black blue and white), and somehow i have gone this long without learning how to use one and its about time i do so. And since im building the rod, i need to buy a reel. that's where i could use some help. Ive been looking around and have done some research but don't quite feel knowledgeable enough to make a good choice yet. I've narrowed my search down to a few reels (or so i think, also i prefer left hand); -($60) Lews American Hero Speed Spool -($47) Daiwa Laguna -($60) Abu Garcia Revo S *used; the older all silver version* -($50) Okuma Krios I've heard aluminum framed reels like the Krios or Revo are much better than the graphite frames on the lews or Laguna, but have also seen good reviews of all these reels. So, what are your opinions? the reel will be paired with a MHX MB843 medium heavy blank, and used as a general purpose rod. Mostly texas rigging for bass and chucking spoons/spinners for steelhead in the cold months.
