  1. ok "hands up" it may not of been 30' but it was a hella big fish, and you'll just have to take my word, Bone Creek has a beast. Last week i took a pretty good hit on my own stupidity out on the yak out at Cedar Creek. Didn't have all the gear tied down and ended up loosing a ballistic ex on a pretty nice rod too and my keys/phone as i capsized. Well i guess I'm learning the yak the hard way. But in the end some of the fisherman down there were having a local tourney that day and got me squared away. Thanks a mill to them, a good bunch i appreciated it. Then the other night i went back out to middle creek. My first time there i dragged a big hotty in off the point across the ramp. But not this time, Blue-Balled. Got a couple teasers at 1-2" using a shad swim-bait with a weighted hook so i could heave it into the grass and work it back. Tried the frenchfry, chatter bait, and spinner - it was tough tough fishing.
  2. Thursday heartache at Bone Creek! We were on the lake about 9:00 am. Fished the riprap on the dam but nothing going on. Moved to the big timber on the Creek Chanel. WaLa, a monster, thought is was a big drum but then I saw the flash. It was the biggest bass Ive ever had on my line. Had to go 30 inches, I was fishing with my Dad in his Champion bass boat. He has this thing about no fishing with a net. Keep the rod tip up and lip the fish. Ugh! Anyway this big sow was at the boat, then looked me in the eye, rolled and was gone. So fun. Bouncing crank baits off the trees and deep skirting jigs. The day trip was productive, we caught several fish with one over 4 lbs. Can"t wait to try again.
  3. Went to Mound city lake or the one thats a few blocks from Critzer this evening. Got in at 6pm fished till about 8:30 caught two. Didn't have much time fished the west side caught the bigger 2lb off a wooly hawgtail and a smaller one using a lizard. Soft hits. I guessed it be cooler on that side. Lots of weeds or hydrilla all over. Tried using a chatter bait and the hawgtail along the north end riprap but kept getting hung-up, wasn't my night. Saw a couple guys out there catching some big catfish.
  4. Took the yak over to Critzer Lake from 4-8ish yesterday. There was lots of bait fish running around, carp were splashing often, the banks and terrain were pretty cool looking. At first i was contemplating whether to use braid because its such a f-ing jungle but instead just switched out to a diff rod bc the water looked pretty clear. Anyway the N-west side was productive for me, i didn't go back where it starts bending to the SW ( saw about 50 buzzards hanging around in the trees back in there was crazy ) but started there and kinda worked my way along the N shore. IF i could get a cast to banks edge whether rock or tall grass it was on! I got in the thick of it, had a few cuss-ups when my one pole not in the water would get hung up. i probably caught around 11 with the bigger ones being close to 3lb. I had more success with a T-rigged twin skirted grub or the 4 1/4" stick worm both blk red flaked. While spot checking around, i missed what felt like a decent one on the way in towards the SE corner along the channel just tossing around to the spread trees letting it drop. It was fun and man it was just good to be on the water and be exploring. Anyone else have any tips recently for what worked for them there.
  5. Hit Lake Miola last friday morning in the kayak. Did pretty well along the d**n using a ned jig with candy red frog legs caught mostly bass around 1lb. Caught two saugeyes dragging a worm carolina style from the grass on the east side. And then the biggest and most fun in the kayak was a 4lb wiper using a bladed jig. Wont be around next week, will be down in Grand Isle bringing in some redfish and speckled trout.
  6. Went to Pleasanton Lake early hooked up with a few bigger ones than the previous week before, 2-3lbs on the north side bw the dock and the ramp, tossing a bladed jig or a watermelon CR Boss dog. This afternoon I tried out Kestersen Lake (a.k.a Holden Reservoir) Good looking water, hit all around but ended up being a big bust. Spoke to some other dudes at the ramp and it was the same story
  7. Wolf creek was phenomenal, that's for sure. After getting checked in we hit the southend near the dam and along the riprap to the SW. I was throwing a green northland spinner and my buddies were tossing 5in plastic worms, it was SM heaven. We then hit the riprap jetty thing both sides and did well there too although more finicky on the calmer side. We threw a lot of lures but the mainstay were plastic worms or jigs with grub/minnow tail. Although I was using 8lb test i probably lost a bag of plastics to something just clean off the line. A few times we had shad erupt right next to us and landed some white bass. At one point i took a break and was getting a water. I tossed my jig out and let it hit the bottom in 25ft while the others were fishing and nonchalantly asked them what they thought the limit size was on walleye. My buddies turned to see my rod bent in half and when i finally got that d**n fish to the top it was a big ole black drum. Man i was embarrassed and they just couldn't stop laughing. We threw a lot but the mainstay were 4-6in plastics 2-4ft from the bank on the drop. The smallies we caught were 3/4 to a 1.5lbs. We left around 1pm. I loved it.
  8. Hey Guys! I am new to the site. I fish mostly during the week as i work most weekends i am from OP area. Fish a basic sit-on kayak, bass boat, or from the bank. Last week I hit pleasanton lake in the kayak early, there is a ton of weeds back in that main cove used a strike king frog and landed a few bass 1/2-2lbs, fished the west-end tall grassy area got some too. Threw a torpedo across the main lake and caught 2 channel cats about 18in they were oddly skinny. Left there around 11:30 bc it was so friggin hot, thought i was gone die. Then around 5pm i hit MC in the kayak went across from the boat ramp to the point and was throwing a large purple brushhog in the timber and all the way around in it, and landed a 21in LM fatty hog he was a beauty. Had some more in the timber but they were dinks. Mostly creature baits. I was the only one there till about 7pm and then like 3-4 boats came in they looked like catfish guys tho. Ended up leaving shortly after. Fished La Cygne a few times this month in the boat w my dad. That lake is fickle for us, sometimes we catch some Lunkers on the other side of the outlet along the riprap and sometimes we can't find them anywhere. I mainly use a french fry there bc i have most confidence w it. This morning went to the Kaw with my nephew to mess around from the bank didn't really know what to expect but ended up with a 23lb blue cat which was fun nevertheless. I have some pics if anyone wants to see it - kinda ugly looking. Tomorrow I'm taking the boat down to burlington to fish wolf creek, never been there. I am excited tho hopefully it will be a calm day. I got a whole list of places i wanna explore this summer so look forward to sharing with you guys.
