Hi all, like a couple others on this forum, I'm brand new to the forum, and was enticed to join by all the great info I read here. Unlike most on this forum, Im also brand new to bass fishing. I'm born and raised in NT and have only casually fished the canal for panfish. Now that my girls are getting a bit older, and beginning to show a slight interest in fishing, I'm starting to find a little more time to get out, though still not as often as I'd like. Because I'm so new, a lot of the terms thrown around on this site, are greek to me. The extent of my bass knowledge comes from some youtube videos, reading this forum, asking some questions at Gander Mt, and catching a few branches and snagging a few rocks in the canal near the kayak launch at the Robinson St bridge. None of my friends bass fish, so I'm learning as I go here. I feel like Ive got the right equipment, (a couple 6'6" medium action rods, with 8# clear monofilament. Ive got a variety of different colored jigs, a variety of crankbaits, some spinners, and some plastic worms that Ive set up on a Texas rig). Im looking at buying a fishing kayak (my father in law has one, and I've borrowed it a time or two just to see if I like it), but I'm not opposed to fishing from shore by any means. But enough about me....
My hope is, that some of you fine folk could help put me on some fish, so I can land my first bass.
I really don't have a lot of time to get out there so traveling more than 20 mintues to fish isn't ideal. Ive read about the overflow at Ellicot Crk, is that the body of water 100 yards or so from the parking lot when you pull in off Niagara Falls Blvd? And is that still active this time of year? Are there any spots on the canal in the Tonawandas that are better than others? Any other local spots or tips will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
