  1. Figured it out! After another three hours of taking everything apart and oiling it, meticulously making sure every piece was in its place and functioning perfectly, I re-assembled it and cast - same problem. Then I randomly decided to make sure the centrifugal brakes were set correctly - I always have all six of them turned off for casting light baits. I had glanced at them several times and saw they were all in the same position (I never can remember if pushed in is ON or OFF). Well, it turns out that the snapping sound I heard during the cast must have been ALL SIX of the brakes snapping into the ON position, hence causing the whine and reduced casting distance. I never would have dreamed that could happen, but apparently it could and did. Its really annoying that all six did it because if only five had slipped, I would have seen something was amiss the first time I glanced at them, but since all six slipped it appeared correct to my mind. Just thought I'd pass this along in case it helps anyone in the future.
  2. I have had a Revo STX low profile baitcaster reel for a few years now, and I just started having a problem with it. Previously I have been able to cast 50-60 yards no problem. However, a few days ago I was casting and I heard a click from within the reel, and felt a bit of a snap. That cast only went about 15 yards. I reeled it in and cast again, and this time there was a slight whine - a "wheeeeee" sound while the line was going out (never made any sound before), and again I could only cast about 15 yards. I cast again and again but still the problem persisted. I thought maybe something broke or snapped out of position in the reel, so I took it completely apart and could not see anything out of place from what I could tell. I oiled it in various places, but when I put it together again the problem was the same. I'm pretty sure something in the reel broke, I just can't find out what exactly. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.
