  1. I think what is happening with me is that because I have been trying so many techniques and lures I have not really mastered any of them. If I limit myself I can get good at a couple techniques and then move on from there.
  2. I miss so many fish that fear is long gone. ?. I just like having bait caster and a spinning rod.
  3. Since I mostly fish small pond and lakes and only bring 2 rods I think I would rather spend time fishing and less time thinking about and changing to all kinds of baits. Although like most fisherman I love buying baits. I am going to give it a shot and see what happens.
  4. Does anyone limit their tackles options on purpose? I am bank fisherman and have backpack full of baits. I find myself more and more changing baits a lot. I wonder if I would be better off at least every now and then bringing one plano box and a couple soft plastics bags and focus more on just fishing.
  5. Good advice. I do like what I have been using but I also like trying different setups. However, I am not going to be changing line all the time either. Don't want that hassle not do I want a ton of rods to carry around either.
  6. The baitcaste is a Abu Garcia Silver Max - medium heavy , fast action - use it mainly for crankbaits, some jigs, bigger jerkbaits, and larger plastics The spinning outfit is a medium power, fast action - mainly for finesse stuff - shaky heads, ned rigs, ect
  7. I have two rods, one baitcaster and one spinning rod. Currently both are spooled with mono. 8lb on the spinning real and 14lb on the baitcaster. I fish mainly ponds and small lakes from the shore. Both need new line. Should I stick with mono for both or go to maybe 20lb braid on the baitcaster? The spinning rod is for the more finesse stuff and the baitcaster is everything else. Don't do much fishing in super heavy cover. Don't think either rod would handle it well. Any advice would be appreciated
  8. I pinch all the barbs on all my hooks both singles and trebles. I find it easier to remove and I also fish with my kids a lot and it is easier for them as well. I don't specifically buy barbless hooks. Just modify what I buy. Doesn't take much time.
  9. I think what I plan to do is use the tactics I know pretty well, such as texas rigged senkos and flukes and try out new spots with those. When I want to try new techniques such as crankbaits I go to places that I know and experiment there. Seems like a sound strategy.

  11. I got back into fishing this summer after a long time off. I have been fishing ponds and small lakes from the bank. There is one pond frequent that I do pretty well in. However, I like to try new spots and whenever I do I don't have much luck. Am I better off sticking to a couple small ponds and learning how to fish those as opposed to trying to find new spots a lot?
  12. I followed the advice on guaranteed to catch bass and caught 3 bass in about an hour and a half. The day was cloudy and a little rainy and the pond was pretty muddy so I didn't think I would catch anything. Used a black and blue flake senko instead of the color recommended. The key is to fish slow and have patience.
  13. All great advice. I am going to stick with Texas Rigged senkos and other worms. Going to throw some flukes too. I had some success with those. The lures will stay in the tackle bag for now.
  14. I have been doing a lot of Texas Rigging and think I will stick with that for the most part. I have other lures I've used but have been enjoying soft plastics the most. Plan on checking out the Ned rig too
  15. I know there are a lot of different fishing techniques, rigs, baits, ect and all suit different conditions however, as a beginner fisherman is best to focus on just a couple techniques or rigs and get really comfortable fishing those as opposed trying your hand at a bunch of different ones even if you are trying to match the conditions? It can be very confusing, not to mention expensive for a new fisherman.
