  1. Just got home, the trap was empty when I got there and the bag inside was destroyed and the bacon gone, I’m assuming fish got it. Swapped the bag for the bait cage loaded with bacon and threw it in, waited 20 min and success! While I was waiting I also used the advice given on here to throw a piece of bacon on my hook and dip it in the water then pull it out slowly, worked like a charm! Got about 5-6 doing that and 2 in the trap, closed it back up and left it for next time, hopefully it’s filled when I go back. Glad I finally got it to work, thanks for the help everyone, great day on the water! https://ibb.co/g7TJzyV https://ibb.co/42r4hB4 https://ibb.co/nsPPNPz https://ibb.co/HLyxXd5
  2. Yes it’s my crawdad spot where I am usually able to catch at least 10 by hand within 10 minutes using a net flipping rocks. About 2 feet deep, clean cold water with a very subtle current and a ton of rocks. Going to check it now, I’ll let you know.
  3. I can’t remember how big mine is, I think it’s a 4’
  4. I fractured my heel and can’t put any weight on my foot. My friends load my kayak for me, I just get in and float/fish. I used to catch live crawdads by hand, flipping over rocks and scooping them up with a small net but that’s obviously not an option now. I set a crawdad trap but I’m not very hopeful, hasn’t worked in the past. I have a nice cast net that I’ve barely used, do you think it is possible to throw it successfully from my kayak? How about from a lawn chair? If not how do you suggest I get live bait out of the river? I take nightcrawlers with me which work well but I prefer minnows and crawdads.
  5. I set the trap Monday, gonna go on the river tomorrow. Think 48 hours is too long to leave it sitting there? I’m gonna be ticked if there’s nothing in it, something tells me there won’t be. What should I do if raw bacon in a bag with holes didn’t work, add a can of tuna or is raw chicken better? I really don’t understand how people do it successfully on YouTube, I literally put a can of cat food and a hot dog in last time and got nothing. I don’t think it works as well as people say.
  6. I hear ya, chicken is just as expensive as bacon lol and while I love bacon I like chicken wings better! I ordered these but they are a lot smaller than I thought, each one is only the size of a quarter - https://www.amazon.com/Mimilure-Fishing-Feeder-Basket-Available/dp/B07S33ZXQ1 would this work better or does it need to be more exposed like it is in a wire cage? I wonder if I could make my own. https://www.amazon.com/Promar-AC-300SP-Seal-Proof-Bait/dp/B00CO965A4
  7. Actually I was able to do it for $37 shipped from Amazon, already had the fishing rod holder by Scotty. I would’ve just bought the chair but I have one I really like that matches my kayak.
  8. Any idea how I can recreate this, like exact parts? https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-lunker-lounger-fishing-chair
  9. Nothing that clips to a chair you don’t think?
  10. I paddle the river and fish most of it from my kayak, but there is one beach with just the perfect set of rapids that I always stop at and fish a good 2-3 hours. I have a great chair and clip on umbrella but find I am constantly looking for a place to put my pole when I catch a fish, am baiting my hook or tying a new one. I find myself sticking it into the space beneath the armrest but it usually ends up falling to the ground. Any suggestions? I really like my chair and would prefer to simply modify that rather than buy a “fishing chair” which I found very few had rod holders anyway. Thanks!
  11. Thanks! Yeah man I will eventually transition into lures for practical reasons and for the challenge and variety, but yes I am quite enjoying the live bait right now. Something very primally satisfying about catching your bait and having a fish eat a live crawdad. Nightcrawlers not so much, but of course I bring them because they’re easy to get and cheap. Where do you fish, and what are your go to lures?
  12. I think you’ve left a critical part out of this method..... So you wouldn’t do a raw chicken wing?
  13. Just toss it in there loose or string it so it is suspended in the middle? In the past I threw a hot dog in there loose and they were simply nibbling on it through the outside of the cage.
  14. Raw bacon or cooked? You think it’s better in or out of a bait cage like the one I linked?
  15. Oops already ordered lol. Should I put chicken in there or is it better exposed? Is chicken a lot more effective than bacon? What about fish, better than chicken?
  16. Does it have to be from local waters? Do you mean like from the same city or just state that I live in?
  17. Cool, thanks! What do you think of the second device I liked, the bait cage? Will that help, should I put a raw chicken drumstick in there?
  18. What is the best bait to use? I ordered this one from Amazon made by Frabill, got tons of good reviews, as well as this little bait cage made for carp/catfish to suspend in the middle allowing fish to feed but containing bait: https://www.amazon.com/Frabill-Crawfish-Trap/dp/B08DPQBKRD https://www.amazon.com/BESPORTBLE-Stainless-Fishing-Basket-Feeder/dp/B07ZRYS3FC Will this combination work, or am I better off putting bait in a stocking? What kind of bait should I use? Thanks!
  19. You throw it from your kayak? Have you ever tried minnow traps w bread?
  20. Nice, how do you catch your baitfish? And what do you mean paddle with it down?
  21. Awesome thanks. So does it sit on top of the water or just slightly submerged? How did you fasten a string to it?
  22. Nice, I thought about making my own. Do you feel like it drags your boat or makes it hard to paddle at all? Do you have some kind of floatation device on it or is it better underwater? Does it allow for adequate flow of fresh water through it? How big of holes did you make? Does water pour out in 10 diff directions out of the holes when you pull it out of the water? Also, what kind of live bait do you use and how do you catch it?
  23. Ok cool thanks. Aren’t they swimming in that water temperature anyway? The river stays pretty cool generally. Could the Minnows become traumatized or cluttered and die in that bait tube?
  24. So how about just keeping them in the river trolling on the side of my boat in that bait tube w water flowing through it?
