Zoom has a color named Cotton Candy that is clear with flakes in it. There are several colors with a clear base and flakes. Finesse, curly tail, lizzards, U-tail and maybe some other styles. http://zoombait.com/colors/

I agree. 17# mono on a 30 size spinning reel with be short lived unless you only use heavy lures. After it gets wet and dries on the spool it will look like slinky toy the next time you use it. Spiderwire mono is not known for low memory. You would be better off with a smaller diameter nylon mono or fluorocarbon line like 10# or less. A superline would be even better since it won't develop any memory like monofilaments do.

There are three 798 models. The two oldest are the 798c SI Combo and 798ci SI Combo. Neither of those are Ethernet capable. The newest one is the 798ci HD SI Combo and is Ethernet capable. It takes the AS EC QDE Ethernet adapter to connect an Ethernet cable to it. That model was discontinued three years ago as well as the 1198c SI Combo. There is a 1199ci HD SI Combo between the Helix and 1198. You can tell what day the unit was made by looking at the serial number. The first six digits are the year/month/day YY/MM/DD Older units would have five digits Y/MM/DD Sonar wise the sonar technologies are the same, Humminbird put Side Imaging on the market in 2004. It is the same Side Imaging as then with some improvements and faster processing with more other stuff capability. The Helix 10 has a rectangular display like a flat panel TV 16:9 ratio The 1199 has a more square display. The Helix 10 has about 6,000 more pixels per square inch than the 1199/1198 and is about what the ONIX 10 has as far as screen resolution.

Lowrance and Humminbird use the same frequencies for the imaging and 2D sonar. Any sonar units, regardless of brand, will cross-talk when their like sonar frequency pulses overlap. It can be on the same boat or different boats in the vicinity. If it is not too severe, it can be tolerated and somewhat filtered with unit settings, but when severe, it affects the depth reading. You can put the console unit on stand-by or turn it off when using the bow unit. If you have networkable units, you can share the sonar from one to the other to prevent cross-talk. The legacy and Helix series will only share waypoints with an ONIX via Ethernet. Ethernet capable legacy and Helix units will share GPS data, sonar data, sensors, and Ethernet accessories. The XX9 legacy models like the 1199 will cross share sonar technologies. You can share SI to a 2D or DI model and reverse. The 1199 should be the one on close out sale, not the 1198, that was discontinued over two years ago. The Helix models are new for the 2016 model year so they will have a longer updateable lifetime. Plus the Helix 9, 10, and 12 series has built-in Auto Chart Live like the ONIX has.

If you want any sonar readings when the boat is on plane, it needs to be at the bottom of the hull which is the lowest location. It is physically impossible to get Depth/ Sonar at speed with it at the top location.

I caught a lot yesterday in less than 2' on a spinnerbait. Some were caught in the 6'-8' range with my avatar presentation. I just let my electronics find them, then caught them.

A GPS plotter that has no mapping is called Track Plotter. It does Routes, Tracks, and Waypoints on a blank background. A Chart Plotter does the same with a map background. If you want to see contours displayed it has to be a Chart Plotter.

Humminbird has Auto Chart Live in the Helix 9, 10, and 12 series and the ONIX and ION units have it also. Real time contour mapping. Navionics has had the Sonar Charts program for about 4 years and Sonar Charts Live for about two years to convert sonar logs to HD contour mapping. I use all three to create contour mapping where there is none or to get better detail than existing maps.

Having contour mapping on "small ponds" is not likely. You can view all the maps that Navionics has on their website's Web App.

I remove the barb with the presentation like my avatar. Better hook penetration and there is no weight to create leverage to throw the hook, so no barb is not an issue. I catch thousands of bass that way.

Fluorocarbon line should be one of the three types you use. It is best for some applications but not all.

The top picture is the best location and most that do that exchange the transducer for the XPTH 9 HDSI 180 T which takes a 1" plus hole in the transom extension and looks like this when installed.

I have been using the gripper since I saw it used on MLF. I zero the scale with it hanging on the hook and then clip it to the fish to get the actual fish weight. Don't have to account for the weight of the gripper.

Several suggestions: Use a shoot-thru dual beam transducer for 2D/Depth---XP 9 20 Place the SI transducer above the hull bottom so it cannot be snagged, bumped, ect. I suspect your biggest issue with that mount is you overtightened the base to the hull and cracked it causing it to fail under water pressure. That is a typical thing with that mount type. If you want to use that transducer model again, do the above and/or get the Transducer Shield and Saver SBB-4 and a non tripping mount for it. The best solution is to get the better SI transducer XHS 9 HDSI 180 T so you get a stronger mount and sharper images. Still use the shoot-thru and connect it and the SI transducer (above the hull bottom) to the display with the AS SIDB Y cable

What boat do you have?

Why did you get a trolling motor puck with temp sensor to use for a shoot-thru?? The XP 9 20 T is the proper one for shoot-thru and has a remote temp sensor for water temp. It comes with the proper slow cure epoxy. I'll send you a link how to PROPERLY install a shoot-thru.
