  1. A medium light rod should be perfect for what you want. Length is a personal choice, I have a fenwick hmg 6'9" ml f that works well for most freshwater situations I have encountered so far. I use 10 lb braid to 6 lb p line cx premium fluorocarbon leader and have not had issues yet. SunLine makes a 7 lb fluorocarbon if you want to really split the difference. Good luck and enjoy.
  2. I would lean towards the mojo in a medium. I have the new mojo 6'8" mxf and I love it. You could always bring the reel to the store and mount them on both rods to see which feels best to you. Good luck to you and enjoy the new rod.
  3. I think you would be best to use that set up for drop shot, ned, and neko rigs. All of which are very easy to learn and highly productive. Bass resources has some awesome videos to explain these rigs, YouTube has also helped me immensely.
  4. So far it's a St Croix Mojo wacky spinning, 6'8", m-xf, with a Pflueger president xt 30, spooled with 10lb braid to an 8lb fluorocarbon leader. I use this set up for finnese soft plastics. Will be trying jerkbaits in the near future with this set up as well.
  5. You could also look at getting something used. $50 would probably go a lot further with a quality used rod that is in good condition.
  6. Not much info out yet, but that colour is very green but I will definitely play with one when I see them in Stock.
  7. Check out the st Croix 6'8" mxf. Mojo, avid, or avid x depending on your budget. Loving the mojo so far and I regularly fish the techniques you listed.
  8. The HMG line is being updated so you can probably find a good sale on remaining stock. I like the HMG but I don't think it's fair to compare it to a rod of double the price. As with most things in life, you do get what you pay for. Just went fishing today with it in fact, felt everything from sunfish to small catfish to bass. HMG is a solid choice, but there are many other good rods in that price point. Just be careful in selecting the power and action as there is so much variation between brands. I usually judge it based on lure rating. Fenwick ml is about the same as most other brands m.
  9. Thank you for your suggestion, that is a very good idea. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge, this is very new to me.
  10. Just googled the inside temperature of a car and apparently if the outside temperature is between 80-100 degrees, the the inside of the car is between 130-172 degrees. I assume under a tarp, in the sun, in a rod locker would be very similar. So adding to what @WRB mentioned, if the rods begin to degrade at 104 degrees, then it makes sense that some damage would occur over time at 172 degrees. Add to that any imperfections or rough handling.
  11. I have owned the eagle, hmx, and hmg. Sold the eagle and hmx, decent rods but not what I wanted ultimately. The hmg is a good rod. I have the 6'9" ml-f and use it for drop shot, neko, in line spinners, small crank baits, and jerkbaits. It's light, sensitive, and very comfortable. The only thing I would like more is an xf tip, but it still works well for my use. They fish a bit heavier than their power rating suggest. The ml feels like a weak medium power if that makes sense. I saw that they just updated the hmg with availability in September. But according to their website the 6'9" ml gained half an ounce in weight compared to the previous version.
  12. I try to not leave rods locked in the car during the super hot summer days of July and August. When you open the car on a hot day and get that wave of heat, imagine your rods sitting in that oven for most of the summer. My uneducated guess is that it would weaken the strength of the rod and possibly cause damage to your reels as well.
  13. I am toying with the idea of replacing the cork and reel seat on my mojo bass spinning rod and replacing it with a custom set up. Is it possible to get a reel seat similar to the fenwick elite tech bass spinning rods but with Winn grips instead of cork? I would like to not feel the plastic or metal seat, threads, or anything else. Just the grip material.
  14. I recently purchased the mojo bass wacky spinning rod 6'8" m-xf which from my research here on this forum was highly recommended. I have zero regrets. It is highly sensitive, good hooks sets, and strong backbone. Also great for casting distance and accuracy. The rod is comfortable and fishes very well... It feels right.
  15. I use yellow braid with a fluorocarbon leader. I like the visibility but it does lose its color fast. If you wanted to go with yellow braid direct to the lure you could always use a permanent marker to color the line dark a few feet.
  16. Correct, It also comes down to the guides, cork used, place of production, etc. Best bet to hold them in store if you can. I have no regrets with the mojo bass spinning rod. For what it's worth I paired this with a Pflueger president xt size 30 spinning reel with 10 lb braid and 8 lb fluorocarbon leader. I am very happy.
  17. I believe the premiere is scII and the mojo is scIII which is higher level of graphite. The mojo felt better in hand to me. I also liked the avid x but a little bit more expensive that what I wanted to spend.
  18. I prefer braid main line with fluorocarbon leader. 10 lb braid to 6-10 lb fluorocarbon works best for me on spinning gear. YMMV
  19. I recently purchased a st Croix mojo wacky 6'8" m-xf that I am quite fond of. Perfect for soft plastics finesse techniques, for me anyways. With sales it should be around your price point.
  20. My confidence is in the drop shot and the neko rig (weighted wacky rig) . Slow, methodical, finesse approaches.

  22. Thanks for the replies. I will try the o ring next time. The hook angle is throwing me off though. Seems like you would get better hook sets with the hook point facing down towards the weight, similar to a jig head, than away.. but I am far prom a pro. I will try both and see what happens. Thanks everyone
  23. So today I had a total of five fish using the neko rig, but was only able to land one. I noticed that with the hook, a 1/0 kvd drop shot hook extra wide, would slide back through the bait when hooked in line with the bait, a plastic worm. I was not able to get hook penetration on the four of the fish. I switched hooks to a gamakatsu and hooked it wacky style and was able to get a solid hook set and land the other fish. Do you guys hook in line with the worm? How do you keep the hook from sliding through the bait? Or is it the kvd hooks?
  24. I have a st Croix mojo bass 6'8" mxf and 6'9"fenwick hmg mlf. I find this a versatile set up. St Croix is perfect for finesse and the fenwick doubles as finesse, small jerkbaits and cranks, and in line spinners.
  25. The guides on my rod are perfectly in line. No issues with quality at all, in fact I am quite impressed with st Croix.
