  1. This is sage advice. I would buy a Fury 663 and pair it with a Daiwa LT, so that may be the route to go. Thank you. The current 1000 size reels we have are cheap Quantums and used solely for bream/crappie, so I wasn't sure how everyone felt about that size when fighting a 6# LM. Thanks so much for this. Legalis is on sale for $53 right now .. seems like a good deal.
  2. I like the Aird-X alot but the blank through handle construction may pose an issue for my son as he has small hands. What are your thoughts?
  3. My 9 year old is an experienced angler and has been fishing for 4 years. For bass, he currently uses an old 6' Quantum Medium spinning paired with a shimano IX1000 and wants a new setup for Christmas. He is able to hook into up to 3# with no issues but the lake we fish (club in East TX) has some monsters and he has fought and lost some good ones. He prefers weightless senkos or baby brush hogs. I'd like to spend around $100. Looking @ Shimano Sellus, Daiwa AIRD-X. For reels, Daiwa Revros/Regal/Legalis Having difficulty deciding power/length/reel size. He likes 6' and prefers 1000 reel size but is growing fast and I would like for this setup to be appropriate for my daughter/wife/guests when he moves into baitcasting. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.
  4. Found this awhile ago. Makes sense for the waters I fish. Hope it helps!
  5. It wouldn't be ideal but I think that it could handle it. If you are looking to for a rod to throw mostly 1-1.5, go with the 735. If not, I think the versatility of the 734 covers the rest of your requirements better.
  6. I have both the 734C and the 735C: 735C is great for flippin', pitchin' & frogs. I don't have a swimbait rod so I use it for that as well. It fishes Heavier but has a good tip so it works out pretty well. 795SB would be a great dedicated swimbait setup. 734C is a fantastic do it all rod for my needs. I use it for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swimming jigs, some crankbaits & some topwater. I have a dedicated Texas Rig setup with TFO, otherwise I would throw that on here as well. Actually, I would feel comfortable throwing anything on it up to 1oz. This is the most versatile setup imo. I have seen some concern that it fishes Med Heavy and that it won't have the power necessary in all situations. If you hold these two rods up next to each other, they are virtually identical. Personally, I prefer the slightly whippier tip action of the 734 most of the time. Its not the ideal setup to flip braid into cover, but I wouldn't be scared to do it. 735C would be better but you could pretty easily get away with the 734C and cover the rest of your techniques better.
  7. Hello all. Mediocre Angler here striving to learn and improve. I've been fishing sporadically since childhood but began fishing regularly about five years ago. Mostly fish club lakes in East Texas for Largemouth. With kids, for Crappie or Bream. Travel several times a year to fish, either Offshore, Great Lakes or Outpost Canada. Easy to get along with and don't take myself too seriously so you shouldn't either. Love to have fun outdoors. Husband/Father of two young kids who love the sport. Have a lot to learn and really appreciate the wealth of knowledge that y'all have collected here. Whenever I have a specific question, it seems the answers pop up on this board, which is what made me want to join your community. Appreciate the hospitality and hope to add value as I can.
