  1. Looking to upgrade my jig rod, I mainly throw 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs both in open water and cover. So I think I need two different rods. I have my eye on a dobyns 735c FH for my 3/8 and under and maybe a 765 for my 1/2 oz and up. Thoughts?
  2. I know this is an old thread, I mainly throw 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs. Is the 735c the best option? I fish both open water and cover
  3. I really appreciate all of the info from all of you! I'm learning one step at a time. If I was to upgrade jig rods up to a $250 price point and I'd like to have at least two rods for my heavier and lighter jigs, what are some good options? I had my eye on a dobyns 763 or 765 but I think that would have too much backbone. I was also looking at 735c FH
  4. Whats a good finesse jig set up? If I had to guess I'd say 7'3 M/F with 14 lbs fluro???
  5. Great advice. Thank you!
  6. Went with the sieberts. I bought 4 starter packs, football head in 3/8 and 1/2, and brush 3/8 and 1/2.
  7. Still in my first year of fishing and I'm ready to start jig fishing, my set up is a shimano Curado 200k with a st croix bass x MH rod. All I need now is jigs and trailers. I've watched a handful of videos of the different applications, types of jigs etc. Now I just have to go make my purchase. I need a list of your favorite jigs and trailers
  8. Looking for some quality bass fishing spots in Kansas or Missouri area, either pond or lake doesn't matter. Google hasn't helped much. Any info would be appreciated!
  9. Is the XF action ok with either of those setups?
  10. I'm looking to purchase my first spinning setup, honestly I'm not a fan of spinning reels but I'd like to throw drop shots, and Ned rigs. I'm looking at a 6'10 ML XF action (from a company that can't be discussed on here) but I'm clueless when it comes to spinning reels. I'm looking at the $100 to $150 range for a reel. So what are some good options? Also, I don't know what pound test line for drop shot. But I'm thinking 6 lbs FC for the ned rig
  11. I'm sort of new to bass fishing, I bought a few reels, I fish a lot of soft plastic and the guy recommended 12lbs trilene big game, i assumed it was fluorocarbon but found out I was mistaken about a month later. This is my education so far on fishing line... fluorocarbon sinks, and it's practically invisible, monofilament floats. (I'm comfortable with my knowledge on braided line) That's all I know. The info I need: - Crankbaits - mono or fluro, what lbs test? -spinnerbait/chatterbait - mono or fluro, what lbs test? - Texas rigs and jigs - mono or fluro, what lbs test?
  12. What rod length power/action would you use when throwing a 1oz livetarget swim bait?
  13. I'm still new to fishing so I'm learning as I go, my question is when would you use straight braid (I'm thinking heavy cover) and when would you use a fluro/mono leader?
  14. The title says it all. What's your favorite rod, power and action and what do you use it for?
  15. I have! Lmao I haven't had any strikes with the poppin pad crasher yet
  16. I also tried the sebile pivot frog and couldn't do much with it. Practice practice practice I guess
  17. I'm still a fishing rookie, I've learned how to walk a spook, but frog fishing has been BY FAR my biggest challenge. My current frog set up is a 7ft Heavy rod, 50 lbs braid, 8.1:1 reel. I can't walk it to save my life. And I'm still failing to set the hook. I've been using booyah pad crashers Is my baitcaster too fast? I can walk a spook just fine but I'm using a 7.1:1 so I figured the technique is similar. Any tips to walk and setting the hook?
  18. I appreciate all of the replies! I'd much rather run straight braid anyways and not go through the hassle of tying on a leader. This may be a stupid question because like I said I've never messed with braid. Does the color of braid matter? I'd assume you would try to match it with the color of the water and/or surroundings.
  19. Can a hollow body frog be thrown on the same rod as a soft plastic horny toad? The places I fish (both on boat and on banks) have light to moderate cover. I was going to get a 7' H/F rod. I'll be pairing it up with a 7.3:1 reel. I haven't messed with braided line too much but I was thinking 50 lbs braid and not so sure about the leader. I would guess 18-20 lbs flurocarbon. Thoughts??
  20. Has anyone used any of those reels I listed? I was also going to get a shimano caius because I found one cheap
  21. Boat, I know every season I'm going to get more and more into it so I'm going to be making the purchase at some point so I guess better now than later
  22. I think I've picked out reels. And I know the rod is more important than the reel, i added a list of the reels and what I plan on using that set up for, I'm still not sure on what rod and line so I'd appreciate input. (Trying to keep rod cost below 150 per rod) - i was going to use my current rod/reel for crankbaits for now - shimano caenan (7.2:1) spinners, buzz baits...what rod? What line? - shimano casitas (6.3:1) drop shots, shakey heads, jigs..what rod? What line? - shimano curado (6.3:1) weightless t-rigs..what rod? Planning on using Trilene 12 lbs fluorocarbon - just trying to cover the basics, am I missing anything?
  23. This is my first year really getting into fishing, I have only one rod I use for everything (mainly fishing plastics) but the more I'm getting into it, and the more research I do, I realize at some point I'm going to have to expand my rod/reel set ups. I started out with a tourney special bait caster, with a 6.5:1 ratio, and a 6'6 MH fast action tourney special rod. I think I need at least 4 or 5 different rods, any recommendations for the different set ups I should have?
