  1. Does it matter what kind of fuse I use? ATM Mini's, ATC?
  2. I mounted my 55lb bow mount Minn Kota Edge this evening. Minn Kota sends out 6 bolts for the install. However just due to the way it all lined up, I was able to install 5 of the 6. I have read about people using 4 and some even 3. I was just curious what you guys thought? Am I safe with 5? I have it bolted into a 3/4" piece of carpet plywood which goes over the bow which has a small aluminum plate under it. 3 bolts go into the wood and aluminum plate while two just go into the wood. Let me know your thoughts.
  3. Perfect. Thanks! I was already doing the fuse but wasn't sure about the ground.
  4. I have a 18ah battery I am going to use to run my fishfinder. My question is, where/how do I ground the fishfinder? I don't much about electric but couldn't find anything else online. I'm going to do one of those DIY battery boxes
  5. Do you know what size the larger battery posts are? I'll have to replace my smaller ones with the larger ones.
  6. I got my trolling motor in the mail today. Opened it up and went to test it out.. the battery terminal rings don't fit any of the posts on any of my four deep cycle batteries. Is this normal? What's the deal? Why wouldn't they make the connectors the same size the battery posts are.
  7. Hey everyone, I just scored a killer deal on a new Lowrance Elite 7ti w/ TotalScan. I storage my boat outside in winter, small aluminum 14'. My questions is, will the transducer be okay to be stored outside over winter? I live in the Chicago suburbs. I can bring the unit itself inside and store it in there. Just curious what those of you do that store your boats outside. I couldn't find anything in the manual.
  8. I think I'm going to just to throw some alligator clips on the end of the power cables and attached to my trolling battery. If anyone advises against this, or has it done with success I'd like to hear any feedback
  9. This stuff? https://www.menards.com/main/flooring-rugs/carpet-carpet-tiles/carpet-installation-maintenance/tec-reg-indoor-outdoor-carpet-adhesive-1-gal/p-1450446645591-c-6538.htm?tid=-2931656997483751216
  10. Have you used that adhesive? It doesn't very well reviews and this is the first I've came across it. Has anyone used the Roberts 6700 or Weldwood outdoor carpet adhesive over the varnish? I have read that others have.. and they say it has held up but the manufacturer doesn't say I should do it.
  11. I got a 14' Aluminum boat I am making a small casting deck on the front. I have a piece of marine plywood and I am in the process of putting 3 coats of spar varnish to seal the plywood. What adhesive should I use over the spar varnish to ensure it sticks to the rubber backed marine carpet? I called Roberts about their 6700 adhesive and they told me it wouldn't adhere to the spar varnish. I then called DAP about their Weldwood Outdoor Carpet Adhesive and they told me the same. But from what I have read, it seems like people used these exact adhesives in the exact scenario and haven't had issues. I was also thinking of just using a staple gun to get the carpet in place. Any thoughts on that?
  12. Sorry guys... I should have clarified.. I just have a 14' aluminum boat. I will have a 6HP on the back eventually. And a bow mount trolling motor up front. Do they make smaller batteries for fish finders? I would need it to last 10 hours a charge.
  13. I'm going to be installing one of these on my boat. I was curious how much draw it has for the battery? Should I get a battery separate from the 12V trolling motor battery? If so what kind of battery should I use?
  14. Would it be okay to shim the back end up with rubber washers?
  15. How? Out of what? I've looked but can't find anything similar that has been done by others
  16. Hi guys,New here. I live in Illinois. Picking up a boat Saturday that I plan on modifying. I've been reading a lot about building casting decks and mounting a trolling motor. It seems pretty straight forward. However, I see you need a level area to mount the bow mount trolling motor. The boat I'm buying is a V-Hull, and if you see the front it has a slight angle. I am kind of puzzled on how I would level that out to make it suitable for a bow mount trolling motor. Any ideas? I have attached a few pics so you can see what I mean.
