  1. So I should be prettt happy using these for all my setups? Gonna be starting tournaments so gonna have a few on the boat all setup differently. I know it's weird I just want to stick with 1 brand and kind of stay loyal to it. The HmGs and elite tech look really nice though, same with the silver hawk2 but if the silver hawk isn't worth it and I should just save a little more I will. This is all spinning setups I need.
  2. I watched my buddy start off and become good with a baitcaster and he started off on an abu Garcia black maxx combo for 60$. He swears by it being an amazing beginning cheap baitcaster.
  3. Hey guys, So I am going to be purchasing some new rods. I am looking to get at least 3 more, setting them up for specific baits(cranks, topwater, ect.) but I am looking to find and stick with a company. I remember my father's older 90s fenwick hmx, and how much I liked it. I was wondering how Fenwick rods are now. I see models such as the hmg, hmx, and silverhawk 2 which are in my price range currently, what is everyone's opinion on these models? My cousin was also suggesting Okuma rods.
  4. Hey guys, Thanks again for all of the replies! Nowadays people make it seem like you absolutely need baitcasting gear. I am glad the Sahara will work out. It is currently on a 7' okuma celilo(nice rod i might add) after I just had it on a <6' Shimano Fightn Rod for the longest time. As for the other reels, I do own a Pflueger Trion(first reel i got actually), as well as a sustain 2500 fe(on an older st croix premier) and a stradic1000fi(used with my ultralite). Great reels, but just a little small for the comfort level. As far as ugrading the rod for the sahara I was thinking of buying my cousin's GL2, but I am glad to know my current etup wont hinder me really. Thanks again for the advice guys, this is a great forum!
  5. Hey guys, So I have decided to start looking into bass tournaments. I enjoy and I am very comfortable with spinning setups so I have decided to use these. The reel I use the most is a Shimano Sahara 4000FD with 10 lb suffix pro mix mono. Will this reel be fine for beginning tournaments or should I upgrade? I couldn't really see why I would need to, but I figured I would ask to see if any of you guys with experience in tournaments(or even the guys who choose to use spinning setups) could help me out. Thanks guys!
  6. Thanks guys, it seems like I am on the right track then using rooster tails and crappie gear. So for my 6lb line, I should be fine use 1/4 oz lures then? Ill try one out. I had these really small rapala cranks but I must have to have 2 lb line or something to use them. Can't cast them at all.
  7. Hey guys, So I recently got into Ultralite fishing. Im currently using a shimano stradic 1000, with 6 lb line. I know most people say 6 lb isn't ultralite but this is what I am starting off with for now. I was wondering what size lures and how heavy I should be using. Mainly, how heavy of a crank should I use so I can still cast a decent distance? Any suggestions for the ultralite tackle you use when going after bass? I also have another question. I river fish a lot. Do ultralite fishermen ever use steel leaders? Is it uncommon to be going after or catching pike or other toothy fish with these setups? I appreciate all of the help, I am really diging using ultralite gear, and it makes hiking to spots more enjoyable since I use less gear lol.
