For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
So my father and I will be renting a boat from Jacomo this Sunday. I've been trying to learn it the best I can to put us on some fish but I really don't want to skunk. There is that one point near the creek inlet that I figure is a good starting point then I'll work my way in. Or should I start super far up the up arm and work deeper? If that fails I plan on flipping the south docks then where Prairie Lee spills into Jacomo, then flip the marina then move onto the spillway where Jacomo runs into Blue Springs. Is that a good plan of attack?

Got beat up at Jacomo Friday. I was on the water on my kayak from 10-4 and I got a one pounder buck bass on a Megabass Ito Vision 110. Fished the main point leading into the creek arm as well as the secondary point. Not the best of days. I had better numbers luck at Legacy Park in Lee's Summit Saturday. Tiny 22 acre "lake" behind a community center. Despite being in Lee's Summit my friend and I where the only ones really fishing it aside from the occasional bucket fisherman. Caught 5 fish ranging from a pound to 2 pounds 12 ounces. An overall good day. I am really fixated on figuring out Jacomo lol.

Thanks. I just did it from memory. The Hook-3 unit didn't have GPS on it so I couldn't get an actual trip record on it but I think I did a good in MS Paint lol. I was really hoping the rip-rap and bluff walls where holding heat. I wanted to try a jerkbait but my cranking rod went down with a nasty backlash as I was trying to free my rock crawler from a tree.

Water temp was 49F. Rented a boat instead of using my kayak. Started shallow with a custom painted Spro Little John. Switched to an Alabama rig. Moved spots to near the spillway. Threw a spro rock crawler. Switched back to an a-rig. Then a chatterbait then back to a-rig. Visual summary of my first time at Jacomo. Hoping to learn and get better at bass fishing. Also the most water I have ever covered in my life. I usually kayak fish outside the Lee's Summit area. I did more graphing at other spots but I swapped between fishing and graphing at idle. That stretch at the dam I just idled over and watched the graph. The graph on the boat is a Lowrance Hook 3 which isn't as good as the one I have on my kayak but I was happy to have something to tell me depth and temp. I found nothing of note on that stretch I graphed. Even a brush pile looked kinda empty.

This weekend was terrible. Tried to get out on the water Saturday. Only out for 45 minutes before the wind made me question my saftey. Taking off work to kayak fish Jacomo tomorrow. Thinking of starting at the rip-rap point near the disabled fishing area. Starting with a craw colored squarebill and then moving deeper with a jerkbait. If that fails I'll start searching with an a-rig. At least that is my plan. Any other tips? This will be my first time fishing Jacomo.

Last Friday Watkins Mill was up to 46 but that was a bright sunny day. With the recent weather I can't imagine it's even hit 50 yet. I will see tomorrow. I'll be fishing even though it'll be below freezing again. I kinda like it that way now. I like having the lake to myself when the weather is bad!

Yeah I live on the Missouri side. Even kayaks need full boat permits though. Jacomo is pretty big. Does it have a boat speed restriction? I felt like I was going to die when I fished La Cygne. I was getting waked every 10 minutes.

SMP would be $50 for a combo fishing boating permit for me since I am not a JOCO resident. Is the fishing in SMP worth getting the permits for? Speaking of permits what about Wyandotte County Lake? Is it worth the $100 I'd have to spend to fish on my kayak?

Got skunked at Watkins Mill yesterday. Put in time near the dam crawling a c-rig as well as tossing an a-rig a dropshot and a jerkbait. Might have been too muddy for a jerkbait though.

Lake Remembrance has been on my radar for a while. Never got around to fishing it but I have a buddy in Lee's Summit that likes it. Always looking for new kayak water. I'm a kayak guy and I'm trying to learn offshore lol. In the summer those banks get beat to hell. Bass probably see a lure every 10 minutes.

Watkins Mill near Kearney is still frozen. I called the state park office there. I could hit James A. Reed but I'd just lose at least 5 baits and get skunked anyway.

Is that a good or a bad thing?

I just repaired the tip myself with a Fuji kit. Looks bad but it works. I'm hitting La Cygne this Friday. I need to get a fish and I'll have the day off and the wind forecast is under 10mph.

I chipped to the top guide of my rod. What are some good places to get repairs done around here? Google is not being very helpful.
