I have a Kansas permit but the whole county specific permit thing is confusing. Do I just need a state permit for Lake Lenexa? I know Wyandotte does.

Watkins Mill has been rough the past two weeks. Only a 1lb fish this weekend. I need some suggestions for decent kayak bassfishing water. Something relatively protected from the wind.

What baits and lures work well out there? I capsized last weekend and lost a good deal of gear so my selection is limited.

So I just got a Hobie i12s! Halloween weekend I'll be in Clinton, MO for a party. I'm going to crash there but I'd kick myself for not fishing Truman Lake at some point. Where are some good put in spots for a kayak? Truman is huge and I've never fished anything bigger than 100 acres. I may not just target largies, I got an ultralight and I know Truman is good for Crappie as well. I am going stir crazy waiting to get it into the water. This weekend I'm going to Watkins Mill which has turned into my main lake.

Help fishing classic lures (Lucky 13, Pop-R, etc)
Edited. That part was irrelevant to the question I asked.

Help fishing classic lures (Lucky 13, Pop-R, etc)
So I went and looked at poppers and gravitated to what my dad and grandad had in their tackle boxes. That meant Heddon lures like the Lucky 13, Arbogast Hula Popper, Jitterbug and Rebel Pop-R. I bought one of each. I used these as a kid and never did well with any of them. I already have two colors of spooks but I find it hard to walk the dog sitting down in an inflatable kayak. Any tips on how to get the most action out of my new topwater lures while sitting down?

I had my first multi-catch day at Watkins Mill Lake this morning! All on buzzbaits. All four were 12 inches but I'll take them! I usually get one fish if I'm lucky. I think I finally figured out I wasn't fishing hydrilla. Watkins Mill is filled to the brim with Coontail! I never understood how I could pull up a chunk of weeds 7-8 feet from the bank. Now I know that this weed can go pretty darn deep. It's gotten deeper now that the water has cleared up a bit as well. So that leaves me with my other question. How on earth do I fish all this coontail? I will toss out a lipless crankbait and I can't keep my rod tip high enough to keep it just on top the weeds. I always grab a huge patch of them!

Input on the Hobie i12s
So I was hoping that I could fit a 10ft Native Watercraft Propel 10 into my apartment elevator but that looks out of the question. So I'm leaning toward the Hobie i12s. I've done lots of searching but there is not a whole lot of recent feedback on the kayak. I even searched this forum but didn't turn up much. Does anyone use one? How does it handle? How is fishing from it? Does it feel like it will last? I have a Sea Eagle 330 but I spend more time fighting my equipment and positioning than fishing. I'm also a bit nervous about dropping Hobie levels of money on an inflatable.

What do schools of shad actually look like?
I tried and all I come up with are pictures of lures for topwater fishing that look like shad. I did some searching before posting here.

What do schools of shad actually look like?
I've been out on my kayak and I think I see small fish making boils in the water. I've tossed spinner baits past where I think the school of shad is but I got nothing. I assume they are shad but I realized that through all my reading, youtube video watching I've never seen something that shows me "see this is what shad look like when a school is on the surface". Anyone have a picture or a video or some way to definitively show me?

Float tubes or kayaks for heavy guys?
Well, I've been taking out a Sea Eagle 330 with some success. Now I'm looking to upgrade. I live in a loft style apartment so that limits what I can transport up to my place via the elevator. Already thinking about next year and possible upgrade options.

Watkins Mill was brutal today. I was hoping for some fall pattern fish. I got a 1.5lb fish on a spinner bait around 9:30am but after that nothing. My friend that fishes tournaments got skunked. We both figured they would have started to move shallow but they were still in the summer pattern and had moved deep. I'll take not getting skunked but the biggest problem is that my kayak floor deflated... now I have to go and find the hole and patch it.

Best smallmouth streams in Missouri?
I am thinking of taking my Sea Eagle to some Ozark streams this fall. What are my best bets for a nice smallmouth bass fishing trip? In addition to location how on earth do I get my car from the launch point down to where I will take my kayak out of the water? I've never done anything like this before so any tips or info on logistics is appreciated.

I just ponied up for my KS fishing permit. What are some good bank fishing or kayak fishing lakes in KS that don't require a silly amount of extra fees? So some background I work in KS. Long story short there is a small public lake right behind my office that was recently re-stocked after being drained and dredged a year or so ago. I've been told it has 4-5lb bass in it! I have no excuse not to get some fishing in over my lunch break! I've been working the banks with a squarebill and hitting the few shady spots with a jig. No bass so far but I just caught two 1lb channel cats on some shrimp I soaked in salt water and garlic powder.

When do bass start their fall patterns in Missouri/Kansas?
It's still been pretty hot and I'm wondering when the fish will start their fall pattern. Should I look more toward water temperature or calendar date? I'm looking forward to also not competing with so many fishermen when hunting season starts!

Went there tonight hoping the storms would get the bass up and going. A pair of other anglers had the same idea. I tried to beat them to a jetty but I birds nested and on the next cast my line broke at the reel from the pressure of the hang up in the nest. I hand reeled my squarebill and went home lol. Reed is now my white whale.

I finally did it! I got the skunk off! After almost of month of getting skunked I hopped into my Sea Eagle and finally got my first bass in over a decade! It's almost like my first bass again! Caught him at Watkins Mill lake this evening on a Smithwick Floating Rogue jerkbait. I was working shady trees with a jig but started seeing blowups around 7pm. I switched the baitcaster to the jerkbait and caught this chunker next to the dam. Sorry for the bad angle but I was fumbling with my phone to take the pic and I didn't want to drop it. I had to take it out of my floating phone case.

Ugh, Jackson County's website is not helpful when it comes to what I need to do to register an inflatable. How on earth do I get a certificate when Missouri doesn't issue them for any vessel "Propelled solely by paddle or oars (regardless of length)". I have no problem paying I just need to know exactly how I'm supposed to do so. I wish Reed allowed kayaks. I've talked to some people that fish it (including one guy while I was out there beating the banks). There are decent bass there you just have to work for them. He told me that he caught 5 fish that day (I got skunked). But he works EVERY castable inch of the bank to get them. I've never made a circuit around the entirety of any of those lakes. I'll hit the dams and laydowns and move to another lake.

What kind of bottom composition is this?
So I went out with my Deeper Pro+ to learn more about a local group of small walkable lakes. They are bank fishing only and I've been skunked multiple times yet people swear there are decent bass there. So I fished a cove and got nothing. Before moving spots I threw out my Deeper to learn more about the area I was fishing (I didn't want to spook any potential fish so I didn't cast it out there first) Is this supposed to be a hard or soft bottom composition? I tossed out a Carolina rig to feel out the bottom and it didn't feel rocky. It didn't feel like anything really. Is this silt or clay or something else?

What are good kayak spots around KC? I can't cover water like a regular bass boat but I want to use my mobility to fish. I found out that lake Jacomo makes you get a sticker for every boat including an inflatable kayak! What are the steps for this and is it even worth the cost? I got a Sea Eagle 330. I'm going to take it out to Watkins Mill this Friday.

Are the MDC fishing reports hot garbage? They have not changed the forecast for several lakes in a month. Feels like they slap a new date on it and call it good.

I'm not far from that lake but I live on the MO side. Think its worth it for me to get a KS permit and a Wyandotte non-resident permit? I'd be bank fishing and possibly kayak fishing. Latest electrofishing survey says 42% of bass are over 15 inches. https://fishing.mdc.mo.gov/reports/smithville-lake Yet some people say it's not great for bass. Based on what the MDC says about Reed I'd trust people on the forum lol.
