That one thing you never thought you needed...
I used Power Worms until I tried Trick Worms. Also zip ties for wacky rigging. Fluoro too.

How did you earn money as a kid to buy fishing stuff
All the money I earned as a kid came from local trading card game tournaments. I was into everything from auto racing, football, fishing, to trading card games. Magic: The Gathering was my thing. My mom would buy me some random decks and packs from Wal-Mart when she could spare it, which wasn't often and the cards you get are a crapshoot. So I would sit for hours and assemble the best deck and ideas I could, and then take that deck to local tournaments and win better cards and money, until I had the best decks in town with money to live rather freely as a kid.

Yum Dingers or Strike King Shim-E-Sticks?
They are great rods. I just look at all the Senkos I've bought this season and realize I could have either more gear or better gear if I would try Dingers or the like. The ultimate goal is catching the fish, and Senkos do that, but if something else can be used with little to no noticeable negative effect, then it would be wise to cut the price by more than half. I don't have a BPS anywhere close to me so I picked up some Dingers at a local farming and outdoors mom n pop shop. I'll order some BPS brand to try though.

What are the bass doing?
Nice video! I could watch you all day. Some good information. Random, I love the way you treat the fish. I wish all anglers were like that. Why didn't you throw worms or stick baits? Wheneven the sun is giving me hell, Senkos right into weedbeds and weedlines always does me well, and twitching and popping some trick worms or power worms off the bottom work too.

Yum Dingers or Strike King Shim-E-Sticks?
My favorite lure is the Senko. I especially love them wacky rigged. However, even with zip ties, I'm burning through them so quickly. I could have much better gear than Lightning Rods and Abu reels from Wal-Mart and DSG if I wasn't spending so much on lures alone. So, which do you prefer: Yum Dingers or Strike King Shim-E-Sticks?

What does the hookset mean about fish activity
I don't even get bites on a spinnerbait unless it's a 3/16 oz, and then they go crazy; anything from dinks to hogs. I can't really recall missing a fish on them, and I don't use trailer hooks. Maybe it's the small size so they get the whole bait?

Fish get unhooked as you reel them in
I pretty much always use a medium heavy for everything. Doesn't seem to affect my lures and I never pull a bait out of the fishes mouth. Always get a good hookset.

Fishing a fast flowing river.
There's a huge river here that's known for its bass fishing, especially in the state park area. It's really, really fast moving. It seems like the speed of the river always screws my baits up and I never catch anything. I think I've gotten 2 fish out of it. I've tried top water, cranks, spinners, soft plastics, you name it. I've tried hitting vegetation, near rocks and fallen trees, in little pockets, even right out in the middle. How do you fish a fast river?

Have you guys seen this thing?
Kind of irrelevant. You buy your gear based on what and where you personally fish, not on some place half way across the country.

Anyone fishing during the eclipse?
I hit my go to location about 4 hours before the eclipse. Caught 3 hogs and 1 dink. Went back during the eclipse and only caught 1 dink. 2 guys were there and caught 2 moderately sized bass. It's a posted catch and release location but those jerks kept them.

Looking for advice
My post from this thread: """Tips: Fishing for bass doesn't have to be stressful or expensive. Most people overkill on line size and gear in general. For example, I'm teaching my son to fish. He's 9. Today we took 2 Platinum Zebco 33's on 6'6" MH Shakespeare Excursion rods, spooled with 10 pound fluoro. Baits were Senkos, tubes, power worms and trick worms. 27 bass between us both. You don't need 60 pound line or high tech gear. People prepare for their PB and heavy, heavy vegetation, but that isn't the usual reality. I'm not telling you to be cheap and take a Zebco, but I'm telling you that you don't need professional grade gear. Its easy and fun and doesn't have to cost a fortune.""" The last bass from our adventure (ignore the silly face, we act like fools when we're left alone). As you can see, a decent fish pulled out of a weed bed on a spincast reel and a cheap rod. You don't need to spend a ton of money.

Is it likely that this is bass feeding on frogs?
It's bass. I see them once in awhile. I've never seen a carp in this pond, and this is a much heavier commotion than when the frogs are messing around.

Best! day ever!! New PB
My best day ever which netted my PB was also on a spinnerbait. April of 2014 I was fishing a small pocket/pool 20-30 yards off a river dam. I ended up with over 40 and also a 6 pounder myself. It was a 3/16 oz Strike King spinnerbait. Little guy doing big work. Very nice catch.

Battle Wounds

Is it likely that this is bass feeding on frogs?
My favorite local pond has a heavy weed line on its far side. Hundreds and hundreds of frogs live there. Every time I go fishing there, I hear and see epic splashes and ripples and weeds moving all around. I assume this is bass feeding on those frogs?

What Is Your Strangest, Unintended Catch
Not really strange, I guess... But... I've caught a turtle on a Senko. I've caught several frogs on plastic worms. Just last weekend I was bank fishing and had a green pumpkin trick worm hooked up. It was dangling on about a foot of line while I examined my surroundings. A frog jumped up in the air and attacked it like a ninja and got hooked up. I've hooked up bluegill on soft plastics as big or bigger than them. I've caught a bluegill on a crankbait before... Except it wasn't even after the bait... The treble hooked it in the back.

Your tips and tricks
True on the location. I've found one location here where they didn't work, and that was a fast moving river. I hate worms and stick baits in fast water. If you've got lakes and ponds with vegetation, they're nearly unbeatable imo.

Your tips and tricks
I've seen a few people say this. Baffling to me, really. Most days I'll start with Senkos or worms and never switch it up because they keep on coming.

Your tips and tricks
I really like this one. A bass is a bass. If it sees a snack it wants, it's going to take it from you, Kim Kardashian or Kevin Van Dam. Most baits are self explanatory. The main way to screw up is fishing soft plastics way too fast. The hard part is finding the bass and understanding your surroundings, their habits and patterns, etc. And yes, a plastic worm or a stick bait is all you truly need to catch some bass all the time. Good advice.

Fishing just for fun?
I currently only fish for fun, but this is the first year since my 3 year hiatus that I've been serious about bass fishing. I play competitive league pool (8 and 9 ball). It took me 2 years of shooting just for fun, learning the game, but then I wanted to test my abilities against other top tier players. Now I shoot for fun and competitively. I imagine bass fishing will be the same. I don't see why there isn't room for fun and competition.

The question every father is asked...
Dad, what does a Senko look like to a bass? Well son, I'm not sure. But if I had to guess, I'd say a peanut butter cup.
