  1. Thanks for the advice, I've realized it wasn't really a grinding noise more of what is sounds like to cast but not as loud or high pitched. It feels fine with line on it though, lol.
  2. I didnt take it apart yet but It's making a sound similar to what it sounds like to reeling in braid to a really low extent and alot of a lower pitch, I really don't know if something is broken or anything because I just got it and took it out of the package, I'm going to put line on and give it a cast and ill let you know how it sounds.
  3. I might be mistaken I don't think it's that major, it'll probably feel smoother when the line comes on. However if it does present any problems in the future I have a warranty on the reel. Regardless of those points though, I just want to know for the future.
  4. It just feels a little gritty and not feeling very smooth, anyway its a shimano caenan 151 baitcaster, saved up my money for it. edit; if 3 n 1 is not good for reels than could you recommend a good reel oil to me? thanks
  5. I just got a really nice reel but it feels like it needs some oil so it'll run smoother, I've heard people have really mixed emotions on using oil thats not made for reels. I have some 3-IN-ONE oil right now (multi purpose oil/lubricant) and I'm just wondering if that would be okay to use for my new reel, because I really don't want to mess it up. Thanks.
  6. I've heard a lot about the Whopper Plopper bait and am looking to buy one in the near future. The only issue for me is picking the size, 90 or 130? In my lake we usually don't catch very large largemouth bass on a regular bases, normally around one to three pounds. For the price I don't want to get a lure that is too big or too small for the bass, so, what do you guys think?
  7. Dumb question but I'm upgrading to a medium heavy fast action rod from a medium fast action rod and it seems alot more beefy, just wondering if it'll have any effect over feeling a fish biting.. Thanks
  8. Thanks for the detailed response, to answer some of your questions... The lake that I fish on is approx 98 acres, and there are many other small lakes scattered around my neighborhood. For now I'm fishing from the shore, however me and my family are looking to purchase a jon boat in the near future. I really never fish anywhere in ponds, streams etc because Im limited to staying in my neighborhood due to the fact that I can't drive right now, haha. (but I'd like to fish other places for sure!) I'm fishing for bass, but on ultralight poles I fish for panfish with my younger sister from time to time. Thanks for taking interest in my post, highly appreciated. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll be sure to check those out. Tight lines!
  9. Recently one of my cheaper poles have started to break down on me, as I only have 2 poles right now, I need help selecting a rod and reel that would be perfect for the things I fish in my lake. I've watched some youtube videos and have read some articles but I just want some extra advice from this forum. Anyway, I really love fishing lures that are 1/4 oz lures, personally to me when I use that weight of lures it feels the most right, when I do usually do this it's on a medium heavy pole (which is beginning to break on me). Another thing that I really love to fish with is a jig, 1/4 oz with a trailer that's more on the lighter side, (people have told me to go 3/8 of an oz when using jigs, but it always felt way to heavy for me.) So people have told me that when fishing heavy cover jigs you need a strong backbone to set the hook through the weed guard. Regardless of those things though, I just want something I can fish with through the seasons, topwaters, diving baits, texas rigs, carolina rigs, most every technique. At the point that I'm at right now I don't need different rods for different lures. As far as reels go, I'm not picky, something that's good for everything, as you could have guessed. My budget is around 250$ I've saved for a while now over my birthday and Christmas etc, so I really want to make good use of my purchase so that it doesn't go to waste. Thanks everyone, Tight lines!
