  1. thinking about getting this particular boat with the pro package with livewell. what are y'alls thoughts on alweld boats and this boat in particular please? ive narrowed it down to an alweld or an alumacraft. id really prefer an all welded boat vs rivets. thanks, Big Ed
  2. thanks men for the replys. the reel is in plenty control, almost feels like too much control, with no feeling like it might over run. the reel is still quiet as the day I bought it but it just feel like it has more to give and is not free feeling if that makes sense to y'all. guess I need to tear into it and maybe oil the bearings in it,it is a 100 and says on the side plate that it has (2),spool I assume, bearings in it. thanks, Big Ed
  3. thanks grub. mine is the black coriolis with blue writing on it. not sure of the number but yeah it was my first "good" reel after college and brought back some good memories with my pb being caught on it. I'd like to get some boca bearings abec7 for it but don't really wanna exceed the value of the reel with (2) bearings ha! otoh can you put a price on memories made??? I looked on youtube but all the shimano lo pro reels are newer with centrifugal brakes vs mins magnetic brake system. thanks again, Big Ed
  4. no, not planning on fishing with said worm/hook/weight combo. just put a worm on I didn't mind messing up in the yard. I usually use a 7.5" power worm with said hook/weight combo. are there any shimano coriolis break down and clean/bearing swap vids or written instructions out there? thanks, Big Ed
  5. ok fellas I was digging around my storage room and ran upon the rod/6'6" Lews speed stick mh and reel/Shimano bantam coriolis 200,i believe it is, that I caught my PB,7.25 lb largemouth bass, on and thought it would be fun to put it into the rotation some times. so, I spooled it up with some pp 50lb braid and tied a fluoro leader on with a 1/8oz bullet weight and 4/0 hook threaded a 4" ole skool "glitter worm" on and to the backyard we go. I adjusted the cast control and the mag brakes to more or less freespool and was getting apporx 30 yds per cast. the spool appeared to slow down at the end of the cast with not even a hint of backlash or overrun. any thoughts from y'all on what I could try to revive this old warhorse?? thanks, Big Ed
  6. I’m thinking so now. When I went back and looked the included wrench was loose in the box and I was mistaken in my previous post there wasn’t any tube of Shimano oil. Thanks, Big Ed
  7. it had the instructions and oil but the reel was attached, somewhat, to a paper reel "holder" of sorts but the clear circle "seal" wasn't broken or torn/cut. just wondering if I got a previous return or a true new reel is all? thanks, Big Ed
  8. good morning fellas. I recently purchased a Calcutta 200b from academy and when I unboxed it the reel was just kinda loose in the box without any packing or bubble wrap around it. is this the way that shimano packs 'em? it appeared to have all the extras like the velour bag, shimano oil and instructions. I ordered it from academy.com and the little "sealed" sticker was still intact that you have to cut to open the box. thanks, Big Ed
  9. Thanks guys. Guess I never considered 6’6” as short. Yes I do like a more balanced rod as I can fish longer comfortably. Keep the suggestions and thoughts coming. Big Ed
  10. thanks vilas. yeah I like full cork grip personally. guess I need to hear from fellas that have tried the fenwick hmg vs eith of the st Croix's I mentioned if they have the same hardware and same sensitivity blanks on em. thanks, Big Ed
  11. ok fellas I got the falcon hd rods in I ordered from academy. I ordered 7' heavy/fast and a 7' medium heavy/medium and they feel a lil tip heavy to me along with feeling a tad long for my taste. so, now back to the drawing board. what do y'all think about the st. Croix premier,st. Croix triumph and the fenwick hmg all in med/hvy fast and medium/fast powers/actions and all in 6'6" casting rods. they will be used for mostly bottom bumping/texas rigged baits and some slug-o type baits and top waters along with some frog action thrown in for good measure. thanks, Big Ed
  12. thanks for the reply kgbassr. I stepped up and bought a shimano Calcutta 200b for it too which is way nicer reel than I've used. I've uses abu 5500c3's all my life with some older shimano's thrown in for good measure. wonder how would the new Calcutta 200b compare to a morrum 5600c in smoothness and casting distance?? thanks, Big Ed
  13. thanks new2bcbass. like I said I would have probably went with mh if falcon made the hd in a mh/fast. I also ordered said rod in 7' which is a leap for me too as the longest rod to date I've bass fished with is a 6'6". I'm hoping the heavy is a touch stiffer than a mh in actuality and not quite a broom stick ha! thanks and keep the thoughts coming please, Big Ed
  14. guess I'm doing this bassackwards but, I ordered said casting rod for a texas rig/ worm/lizard rod then got to thinking it may be too stiff as I've always used a 6'6" mh actioned rod for t rigged baits. have any of y'all fished with this particular rod and could ya tell me its attributes/merits/downfalls please? I was looking for the falcon hd 7' mh/fast but they only make in 7' mh/moderate fast. thanks, Big Ed
  15. peco that's deff worth considering and mongo if I go tracker I'm gonna get a heritage. I just figured an alumacraft would be a higher quality boat than the bass tracker. guess i'v bought into the bass tracker hateraide. any reason not to?
  16. ok fellas I've researched til my eyes are bleeding or at least they feel like they are and I've come to the conclusion that I'm probably going with a alumacraft boat of some sort with a side console of 16-17'. whether that be a 165/175 prowler or a mv1650/1756 I know I want the spray in liner option vs carpet. what are y'alls on alumacraft boats? thanks, Big Ed
  17. thanks slolane. whats everyones thoughts on the bass tracker heritage??? any hands on experience with this boat?? what are the thoughts on trackers all welded in general?? I thought they didn't get good reviews for leaking or somesuch deal??? please advise. thanks and keep the opinions coming please, Big Ed
  18. I also like the crestliner retriever 1650 also with side control if available. any other suggestions for a stable wide 16' south of $10k with 25ihs hp engine please advise. these are just what I've come up with. thanks, Big Ed
  19. aight fellas I recently posted about a first 16' aluminum boat for me and my 2 young sons to fish lakes close to home. think imma down size from what I was originally looking at of approx. $15k or more and look at this Lowe 1648 Aura with maybe a 25ish hp engine. what do y'all think of said boat for what I wanna do with it which is just get on the water and make some good memories with my 2 boys before they head off to college in the distant future. the reason for the downsize is we have travel baseball also going on in the spring so we won't be able to get on the water near as much as we want but my sons also love baseball so I didn't wanna spend $15k and we don't use it but 3 times a year. but, if we do start going a lot then I could always get a bigger/better boat. edit to add that I do want to add a side control to the jon boat. do y'all think that would work ok?? thanks, Big Ed
  20. ok fellas say I up the price to $15k. what would a Lund predator 1660 sc,crestliner 1660 retieiver sc and xpress xplorer xp 160 cost in out the door prices?? I don't have any of these dealers close so I gotta travel some to find the answers. I just thought one of y'all might have a clue. thanks and please keep the thoughts and suggestion coming, Big Ed
  21. looking at the xpress xplorer xp160 type look. I know its quite a bit more $ than I originally said but just that type look. is there anything comparable for cheaper to the xpress??? thanks, Big Ed
  22. thanks polarkraft. I'd really like a new one but might have to bump my price range up some. I personally like the les moving parts and fast holeshot, like imma be using that just fishin lakes with my 2 boys but, with the 2 stroke. I'm I wayyy off course with an xpress xplorer series or a rigged out Lowe roughneck with a 25hp evinrude??? how does that work because xpress boats come with Yamaha engines and I think Lowe bots come with mercs? can I tell the dealer I want an evinrude or am I stuck with the package deal type thing??? also how much wiggle room is there in buying boats?? thanks, Big Ed
  23. ok fellas I'm in the market for a good aluminum boat for me and my 2 sons,13yo and 7 yo,that will be stable to fish standing is my most important thing. I want to keep the price to $12,000ish so looking for a 16' upgraded jon type wide boat that is a lot of bang for my buck. in my research I like the xpress, lowe roughneck, and even the new ranger aluminum boats. I do want side console and want it rigged for mostly bass fishing with some panfish thrown in occasionally. like I said with 2 young boys my utmost important option is stability so I'm guessing a wide boat is in order and want engine from 25-40hp and want a evinrude 2 stroke. can y'all give me some suggestions please cause I've only had jon 14' pond type boats and never this much boat so I'm pretty new to this bigger boat deal. i'vs been fishing all my life just never could justify this big and expensive of a boat but with my 2 boys and their new found love for bass fishing its now worth it to me to spend some coin on something nicer than pond boats that are tippy and unstable. thanks, Big Ed
