Best $75 to $100 spinning reel?
Not sure if this helps but I've had a Sedona for nearly 10 years and it has been flawless. No complaints what-so-ever.

How often do you guys get skunked?
I'd say 1 out of every 5 trips I get skunked (depending on conditions and time I have to fish). Oddly enough, it only discourages me for the drive home. After being back for and hour or so, I Can't wait to get out and try it again. I have had days that I've fished for 5-6 hours and caught nothing. That does sting a little.

What's your favorite braid?
Power Pro 50 lb Green for reaction stuff and high his Yellow for line watching techniques. Power Pro 30 lb for crankbaits and top water treble lures. Have used Daiwa J Braid 4 Strand a bit in 50 lb and like it just as much. I always use a leader regardess of the lure.

Which ALX IKOS??
I called Alex because I was trying to decide the exact same thing. If you live near a Cabelas, go and handle them both. Oddly enough, they are $20 cheaper at Cabelas and always have been. Alex recommended I go with the Promise. Seemed like a great dude and honestly interested in helping me decide. I still haven't pulled the trigger.

What else would work when a Spinnerbait is working?
If I ever caught 9 bass in an hour, my head would probably explode. Having said that, if they were destroying a spinner bait, they'd likely chase a chatter bait, swim jig, or swim bait fished moderately fast I'd think.

What seems to never work for you...
10XD crankbait. Lost well over $100 worth of them to the bottom of a lake. Never caught a fish on one. They have earned my dislike.

Rod overboard
Now here's the question of the day. Do you re-buy the same setup? Or replace it with something different?

Getting Skunked
3/8 -1/2 oz Spinner Bait with Reaction Innovations Little Dipper trailer and shad colored skirt is working well for me. Also if it's windy, casting a spinner bait can be tough, try a Z Man chatter bait with same skirt and trailer. Medium to slowish medium retrieve with a few quick pops then let it fall for couple of seconds around brush or cover in shallows and up to 8 feet of water. I have been having luck mid afternoon to afternoon. Also been killing it with a T rigged 6 inch plastic lizard and pegged 1/4 oz weight with 4/0 offset hook. Drag it slowly about a foot, then a couple of hops. Had those things since last year and started using them few weeks ago. Now I always have one rigged up. Working great around cover and hopping it down ledges.

Rod overboard
Happened to me once. I snagged one of my rods on a back cast and tossed it overboard. It seemed to sink almost in slow motion. I went home and Jerry rigged a bunch of large treble hooks on a metal weighted broomstick, went back and trolled for it for hours. Never found it. A special kind of pain no doubt. Sorry man.

Frog Rod
Check out the original Diawa Tatula 7'2" Heavy. I Don't frog much but it would make a good one.

Would you be annoyed or am I a jerk?
Willing to wager, like myself, most of the info you've gathered about fishing came from another fisherman. Yes? Pass it on to ole' buddy. The info you now have certainly doesn't have a patent. You got it from YouTube, etc., be his YouTube, etc.

fishing alone or with a partner?
Alone. That's one of the best parts.

Would you be annoyed or am I a jerk?
You said he's your friend right? Stay at it.

Fishing License
Actually, it ain't. I sympathize with your plight, but being required to show a valid fishing license to buy tackle would be as effective as simply doing nothing, and makes about as much sense as having to show a driver's license to buy a set of tires. Contact your local DOW.

Fishing License
Show fishing license to buy tackle? Not logical for too many reasons to list.

Line for crankbaits
30 lb Power Pro and mono leader. Love it
-
braided line with Fluorocarbon leader
Took WRB' s advice and started using mono leader instead of flouro. So far, the difference I've noticed is that my FG knot lasts forever (maybe my knot skills have improved, maybe it's the line). And mono is way cheaper. No complaints here. Oh yeah, using flouro my 6 foot leader would become 7 feet long after a few good snags. Using mono, the leader stretches but returns for the most part.

Understanding Prices of Rods
I'd say manufacturers have it figured out by now that fisherman fall into a few categories of what they are willing to spend on a fishing rod. -Cheap as possible/ rod has cool colors and stuff -Sub $100 but want a rod that is fishable and will last a while -Roughly $100 range (I'd say the most competitive, therefore most bang for your buck by far) Manufacturers know that $100 is a pretty common budget set on a fishing rod, so they are forced to make the most competitive product possible while still turning a profit. -$200ish range (guys/gals that want a slightly higher quality, often at a disproportionately higher price) -Anything above $250ish (For guys/gals that don't mind paying large amounts of $ for even slight increases in quality) Like any other hobby, I feel that the price of your gear is determined in part by how serious the hobby/ addiction is. Will I ever in my life spend $500 on a fishing pole? Never, but I think I understand why some do. To be fair, the mark up on fishing gear is absurd regardless of which category it falls into, but I feel safe saying a $60 rod costs closer to $60 to make than a $500 rod comes to costing $500 to make. To enthusiasts, that is understood, and not terribly relevant.

Do You Eat Your Bass?
I brought home a few bass to cook a while ago. My wife loved it (she typically doesn't like fish), so now before I go fishing she always says to 'bring home supper,' and makes me take a cooler. The other day, she was actually upset because I didn't bring home any fish. I told her that I Don't need this kind of abuse, getting skunked hurts bad enough as it is. I'm certainly not against eating bass, that's why God gave them to us. Most days I prefer to release them.

Fishing equipment
Like many things, it is old enough to be antique/ collectable valuable or old enough just to be old fishing gear and not too valuable. Why Don't tell us specially what you have? Another way to gain insight is to cruise your local Craigslist to get an idea of what 12+ year old fishing gear usually goes for. You may have a few gems, then again you may have just a bunch of really old fishing equipment.

A replacement for Costa’s? Say it ain’t so!
The prism lenses are incredible. Tungsten is my favorite for fishing.

Question: So What Do You Have on Your Boat or Take With You that has Nothing to do with Bass Fishing?
Toilet paper and a jug of water.

More tackle or new Rod/Reel?
Still, I would recommend someone new to bass fishing not spend $250 on lures. Odds are $200 worth will sit in a tackle box for years. Funny enough it would seem, I would recommend a 7' MH rod with braid and a high speed reel to any new fisherman. Has nothing to do with vegetation.

Ending an FG Knot - Tips Requested
I've used it one time on an FG knot. That sucker lasted forever. I only replaced the FG knot because my leader was getting too short. Since I have been using the rizutto finish, I achieve the same longevity.
