  1. hey guys i am from baraboo wisconsin
  2. i love throwing wacky rigged senkos for smallies in rivers. throw them i high percentage areas or once u have found some. i like to throw a crank or spinner until i find em then slay em with senkos and tubes
  3. if the river is high i am assuming that there is a decent amount of current. look anywhere u can find a current break, rocks, eddys, logs etc. throw a tube or soft plastic up river and let the current bring the tube past the current break. just keep in contact with your lure. i don't usually look for smallies until the water hits 50 degrees or higher. but the main thing is to throw your lure up current because fish will be facing up current waiting in the current break to ambush any prey being brought by the current. good luck hope this helps a little
  4. if u r fishing in clear water i don't think it is necessary to use a rattle, unless u r fishing ultra deep or fishing at night. in clear water i prefer a smaller profile jig. u don't need to draw any exra attention to your jig. in clear water i like to throw a jig that blends in with the bottom. green pumpkins, and browns. my favorite jig to throw is a booya boo bug with a zoom salty chunk
  5. for shallow up to 5-6 ft 5 inch yum dinger watermelon red flake wacky rigged and for anything deeper samething only t-rigged 1/8 - 1/4 oz tungsten bullet weight
  6. First of all what a great idea for this thread. The stretch of the Wisconsin river that i mainly fish is preatty dirty so i'm somewhat limited as far as jerks go. But i do really good on chompers tubes ( which are garlic scented i think that helps ) i haven't had much success with anything else. But this year i'm definately going to try more shallow cranks and colorado blade spinners. maybe some lizards and that fat ika roadwarrior has mentioned so much. Can't wait for the ice to melt and warm up around here. had record snow falls this year.
  7. as far as retrieves go for tubes on the stand up jig i will hop subtly or simply drag it, let the fish tell u how they want it. when i t-rig it i'll fish it a little more eraticlly to imitate an injured shad. when fishing the jerkbait the best advice i can give u is watch a kevin van dam video either the 3 dvd set from bass pros or the season 1 of "the bass pros" he is amazing with a jerkbait, plus he is also from michigan and that is where he is fishing on those videos.
  8. tubes are my fav to throw for smallies i prefer chompers tubes 3 1/2 in. on hard bottoms i'll rig it on a chompers stand-up tube jig, and when vegetation is thick i'll tex rig it. as far as hard baits i like jerk baits for clear water and cranks and lipless cranks for for stained/dirty water. also topwaters like a spook jr work good. good luck
  9. thanx everyone for the replies, now i can't wait for the ice to melt
  10. I am looking at baitcasting set up for crankin. But I need a little help. I know what the different ratios offer but can u guys give me some ideas on what u use and why? Thanx again
  11. I would like to purchase a low profile baitcaster and rod this year, i have never used one before but would like to try. I would like to use it for crankbaitin. i only have about $150 to spend on it. I know i should probably spend more on the reel so can anyone give me suggestions on what i should buy. any advice would be greatly appreciated. also i would like to thank everyone who put this site together i've been a member for about a year and it's just an awesome site!!!!
  12. This is how i rig it, hope this helps; 1. use a brass or tungsten worm weight, 1/2 or 3/4 oz depending on how deep u r fishing. Use brass or tungsten because they r much harder then led, u can feel the bottom much better and can tell when bottom changes. 2. slide a glass bead on. (for noise clicking, clacking that attracts bass) 3. tie on a swivel ( bass won't be able to feel the weight.) 4. on the other end of the swivel tie on 18 - 36 inches of line, always make sure the leader is lighter line than your mainline so the leader breaks first and u don't lose the whole rig if u get snagged. 5. last tie on your hook and rig your soft plastic weedless. 6. drag across the bottom your weight will kick up debris, your bead will be clacking, and soon you'll have a hit. Also when casting the carolina rig always cast sidearm instead of over your shoulder.
  13. I fish a particular stretch of the Wisconsin river for smallies, typically I do preatty good catching em on tubes. This stretch of the river is loaded with smallies. The river is pretty dirty with about 6 in of visibility, it's very rocky, and the channel only gets about 8-9 feet deep. I would like to experiment with some new presentations, maybe something i can cover more water with. Keeping the visibility in mind, can anyone give me suggestions (colors, blade type, crank etc.) on what they would try in this situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.
  14. I recently bought some stike king 3x finesse worms for shakeyhead technique. I love how the tail of the worm sticks upand the durability, I use the bite-me jig head for it, but it is almost impossible for me to get the darn worm on because of the 3x plastic it doesn't hold on the jighead. Can anyone give me suggestions on jigheads that would work a little better with this 3x plastic. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  15. thank you everyone for the suggestions, cant wait for spring to give floro another shot
  16. I do most of my fishing on a small clear lake and i have always used 8lb mono, but i throw a lot of weightless worms (wacky), so last year i tried the switch over to flouro, i had a couple of hits and the line would break at the knot. question being what would u recemend as far as tying on flouro, what am i missing thanx for any suggestions
