Lake Management
I own two lakes - about 20 miles from one another and very similar in size, depth, and cover. One is just like you stated: plenty of action but no really large ones. The other lake was only sparsely stocked and I have little action there but when I catch one, it's at least 4-5 lbs. I sometimes, however, prefer the action over fishing for three hours for one large fish.

What was your strangest catch?
My 5 year old son was fishing of the rear platform of the houseboat for bluegill one evening (hook, sinker, and bobber) and when I cast it for him a small bat swooped down thinking the sinker was an insect. Well...anyway...after it slammed into the sinker it fell from the sky, obviously knocked out. My wife made me go get the poor little thing so it wouldn't drown and I put in a mason jar. A few hours later, it was fine.

Bass eating crawdads... Help??
...depends on the water temp. as to whether the bass takes the crawdad head- or tail-first...

Bass eating crawdads... Help??
I have a 300 gallon fish tank with a 4lb LMB inside and I go through 36 crawdads and 54 minnows per week; since I can see the fish feeding, I can give you any information you need. Please advise.

Pond Fishing
He's right; I own a pond in KY (stocked 10 years ago) and this is the route I take when fishing. My dad and I are the only ones who fish it but, still, this is the best way to "tackle" the problem.

Greenbo Lake (KY) - a story-and-a-half...
"Nearly 40 years ago, Delbert Grizzle of Flatwoods, Ky. beat the existing state record for largemouth bass with an 11-pound, 10-ounce brute taken from Greenbo Lake on Sept. 21, 1965. The next year, he topped his own record with a 13-pound, 8-ounce fish caught from the same Greenup County lake on Aug. 3, 1966." Anyone else think this is a little bit "fishy?" Two records in less than one-year; this lake is only 225 acres...

Photo of LM or Hybrid for identification
does it make anyone else sad that he calls 5lbers small? It's just that I'd imagine there are some really large ones in there - I fish the pond three to four times per week in the summer, usually catching 10 or so LMB's in a few hours. Having caught so many, I'm just waiting on 7lbs or above.

Why all the spots then? Why are the fish in my pond so small (the largest I've caught is 5.0 lbs.). Is it possible the place is overstocked? Please advise.

Anyone else have a "redneck aquarium"?
Just want to know how many people have what I call a "redneck aquarium?" My tank is 300 gallons and has a baby alligator (16 inches), a long-nose gar, two LM bass, a bluegill, and a crappie (plus penty of minnows and crawdads). If anyone has done the same thing I'd like to know (my wife says it's all a waste of water but I don't think so). My kids, though, love it...especially since we have caught all the fish living in the tank.

Photo of LM or Hybrid for identification
I posted last week but was not able to provide a photo - due to the size. I own a 3-plus acre pond in Kentucky and had it stocked about 10 years ago. I had always though these were regular LM...but after putting on in my alligator's tank, I'm not so sure. I will post two photos, the first being the front half of the fish. Please let me know your thoughts on whether this is a Spotted/LM hybrid or a regular LM. This bass is about 3.5 pounds and close to 18 inches in length. Thanks in advance.

Can someone identify this species largemouth?
I own a 3.7 acre pond in Kentucky that I had the Fish and Wildlife department stock about 10 years ago. I had always assumed these were the standard largemouths...but after catching one and putting it in my aquarium, I'm not so sure. It's either a Kentucky largemouth (spotted bass) or a regular largemouth. Can someone please help me identify this fish? If provided with an e-mail address, I can forward the photo (it's too large to post on this site - more than 150kb). Thanks in advance.
