  1. What constitutes the $50 difference between the fiber and the genesis? is the extra money worth it?
  2. Would a H rod used for jigs and frogs be a good choice for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits? I know the irod freds magic stick is supposed to have a soft tip, but would this still be too stiff for chatter and spinners?
  3. If you guys needed one rod for each of the three categories below, what would they be (in terms of power, action, glass/graphite, length, etc), and what do you use if you already have a rod that covers some? - Jig/Frog/ heavy cover rod -Spinnerbait/chatterbait/crank rod -topwater rod I'm curious as to what you guys use. I will be purchasing three rods to cover all these and want to see what others opinions are.
  4. I want to enter into a local tournament in the near future. I need some advice on what a basic arsenal for a tournament would look like. I cant afford technique specific rods for all techniques. Basically, I need 4-5 rod and reels which will cover all aspects of fishing for the tournament. I am slowly building my arsenal, and already have a 7'2 L Ex Fast spinning Powell Endurance I use for dropshotting and small tubes and Dobyns Fury 703 Fast action Spinning I use for Texas rigs, Finesse jigs and most heavier finesse applications, so finesse spinning gear is covered. I am looking for 2-3 more setups to complete the arsenal: I need a casting rod for Jigs, Heavy T rigs, and occasional frogs. I'm also looking for a rod to throw spinner baits, cranks, and chatter-baits (moving baits). This is the most confusing one because after researching, people swear by mod action, short, lighter power rods and others swear by fast action, heavier power longer rods. A topwater rod would be nice, but i dont mind my fury for this application. Also, may use the moving bait rod for this as well. Just need some advice from experienced anglers on what kinds of rods would suit these applications well. thanks!
  5. I am thinking about trying my hand at local tournaments in the near future. I have a few questions and figured this would be a good place to ask. 1. How do i go about finding and registering for a tournament? I live in the Central Mass area and cant seem to find much information. 2. What is the difference between B.A.S.S. and FLW? I see a lot about them online. 3. Do most people start at this level? I know these tournaments go to the national level, but it seems like anyone can participate. However I was under thie impression that these are for pro/semi pro anglers. Thanks
  6. still available?
  7. Would you say theres a big difference between the genesis and fiber series? I was tempted to buy the Daiwa Aird-x because of good reviews and the cheap price, sensitivity isn't a big issue as i planned to use this rod for frogging...however it would be nice to have a frog rod and a jig rod for the slop all in one...
  8. Up here in MA the bass finally started making and guarding beds. I was sightfishing yesterday from shore, and could see plenty of 1-4 pounders. Trying everything from senkos, beavers, and finesse jigs to lipless, jerkbaits and spinnerbaits, i casted right to them and past them, but could trigger nothing more than aggressive followings and eventually a retreat after getting within a few inches of my lures. The only bass of the day i caught was from blind casting a weightless wacky rig into the deepest part of the cove. Any tips on how to trigger the bites? I would typically swim cranks by the bass and slow them down slightly, and would fish creature bites near the beds as if they were a craw or fish foraging for eggs, but whenever the bass came close they would retreat, as if they were scared. I saw them chasing and biting at bluegill all day too. Any advice would help, thanks.
  9. I have a revo rocket bait caster i planned to use for frog fishing. I am about to purchase a frog rod, and need some advice. I will be getting a 7-7'3 H rod. I understand frog fishing is about power, not sensitivity. Because of this, I am thinking about saving money and buying a rod like the dobyns Colt or even lightning shock. Since there isn't much need for a sensitive rod, would cheaper rods that are durable be ideal for frog fishing? or do other important factors come into play which will increase the price of the rod? thanks.
  10. It was bought for drop shotting exclusively, but i figured i can use it for other things. Will check it out. I see you're a fellow masshole. I'm from central Mass, maybe ill run into you at the quabbin this spring/summer. no more than $80
  11. I have a 7'1, 1 power spinning powell rod i plan on using for ned rigs, dropshots, and occasionally trout. I Need a reel, and don't want to break the bank. What should i buy for it, in a size small enough for this light setup?
  12. What is a good company to get a custom rod from? I have never purchased one before.
  13. What is a reputable custom rod company?
  14. I'm thinking about a daiwa bg spinning reel, and I honestly don't have a clue on which brand makes good rods for these species. I usually stick with shimano and daiwa. I own a dobyns and powell but those are more specialized for freshwater game.
  15. Thank you. My concern was will a 6'6-7'0 m-mh rod small enough for a kayak and flounder jigging be able to hold up well against false albies and massive stripers? Lure weight would range between 7/8th -1.5 oz striper lures to 2-3 oz bucktails.
  16. Thanks. I will move this to the salt forum, didnt realize there was one on here.
  17. I have 200$ to spend. I'm looking for a spinning setup that will be used for saltwater, specifically to catch -flounder -striped bass, sea bass -bluefish -false albacore from shore and kayak. I understand in a perfect world I would have a rod and reel for both kayak and shore, and for the different species, but I only have 200$. Does anyone with experience fishing salt have any good ideas as to what the best overall setup to handle these things might be?
  18. i believe 4-10lb test, however i am more concerned with the weight
  19. I am looking for a reel for my L power powell spinning rod. it is a 7'1 rod. I was thinking about a 1000 size stradic, but do not want to spend the money. Now i'm debating on putting my lews tournament speed spin on it. it is a 300 size, but looks smaller than most other brands 300/3000 sizes. it weighs 8.3 oz. would that be too heavy? (i cannot try the reel out because the rod arrived with a broken reel seat and i will be returning it for a new one). any other recomendatios for a good reel for this setup?
  20. Eggnog or not, the threaded barrel only has a groove on one side. The threaded barrel only has a groove on one side unfortunately and when the cap is rotated it is prevented from sliding back up the barrel.
  21. I received a new Powell max 3d 711 spinning rod for christmas. However, there is a manufacturing error. The silver cap that gets screwed up/down along the top part of the reel seat to secure the reel, is configured for a casting setup. the groove that allows it to slide up and down is on the bottom (eyelet side), causing the opening that the reel would normally slide into to be on top, as if it were for a casting setup, while the actual reel seat itself has the opening on the bottom, on the same side as the eyelets. I have tried contacting powell but they will not pickup. in the event they do not send me a new one, where could i bring this to fix this problem?
  22. Are Cadence brand rods any good? I have barely seen any reviews but the few I have seen are positive for the most part. They claim to cut out the middleman making their product 30-40% cheaper than a product from a mainstream company of the same quality. Cadence users: honest review, are they worth it, and how do they compare to other rods?
  23. I am deciding between the two above and am keeping it between the two
  24. As the title says, which is better and why. Specifically a medium, 7'-7'3 rod.
  25. how is it? i'm about to pick one up from bps
