  1. I’ve seen the videos, read the articles. Guys down in California are catching these behemoths on trout colored swimbaits. They stock their lakes with trout for the bass to get nice and fat on. Their average bass is on point with our (MI) state record! But! We have trout, too! Plenty of em! I imagine the bass here, just as they do in California, snack on them as well. So why is it that the bass down there grow so much bigger? Are they not eating the same things? Does our cold, cold winter play a part in it? There’s an abundance of information on why California bass grow so large, and plenty of videos and other information on fishing down there. But I have a hard time finding any information on fishing my lakes at all, let alone any info on why our fish don’t grow to these legendary sizes.
  2. Largemouth. I landed a decent amount of smallmouth this year, considering I fish from the bank, though. My largest was a hair under 4-20. I appreciate the the warm welcome, fellas!
  3. Newbie here from Detroit. Been fishing since I could walk (28,now), but really caught the bass bug when I was around 14/15. Fishing (and pretty much all my other hobbies) took a back seat to college, young kids, and work around the age of 19, but recently picked it back up seriously last year. I feel like I’m relearning everything. Stuck on shore my whole life, but hoping this is the year I get into a small boat. Unfortunately summer is the “busy season” at work, so getting out can be a struggle working 70 hour weeks. But living 2 blocks off the Detroit River makes quick runs to scratch the itch easy. I did pretty well this year, for my first year back. Caught my personal best of 6lbs 12 oz right out of the river. I’ve been browsing the site for a while, and looking forward to funneling as much info as you guys can produce into my brain. Might even try a tournament or two this year if my work schedule permits!
