  1. Thank you guys! I appreciate the help Being able to quickly get back to the launch is important to me. Thanks again for bringing that up.
  2. Thanks, Scott. I’m not concerned about the motor while fishing or hunting, I just want to make sure I get one that’s good and pushes this boat well. $1,800 for 10 more hp is basically my question..... is it worth it for this boat? The guy I’ve ordered the boat from says a 20hp won’t be enough. The guy selling the motors who sells a ton of these motors and 1648 boats says it will be and it’s his #1 seller.
  3. Hi guys, I’m looking for a little more help. This is my first boat so all assistance is greatly appreciated. I recently purchased an Alumacraft MV 1648. I’m waiting on it to arrive now. I plan to hunt and fish out of this boat. Being in the Florida panhandle, I hope to fish for redfish and trout around the edges of the bays. Most of my duck hunting is done at the mouth of rivers and some in the bay. I need help with the right motor. Here are my options: Tohatsu 20hp electric start, power tilt: $3,050 OTD - 110lb motor Tohatsu 25hp electric start, power tilt and trim: $4,480 OTD - 170lb motor Tohatsu 30hp electric start, power tilt and trim: $4,800 OTD - 180lb motor Obviously it wouldn’t hurt to have more HP, but would a 20hp be enough to hunt and fish comfortably out of? I will have another person with me about 40-50% of the time, but we’re both smaller folks. As as I said earlier, it’s my first boat so all the help is greatly appreciated. - Craig
  4. Catt - your floors look great. Ive considered either plywood or closed cell foam with a rubber mat or hydro turf screw in on top. Is your floor welded in aluminum?
  5. Catt - thanks! I live in the panhandle of FL. Most of the boats here’s are fiberglass bay boats and boats for the Gulf. Anyways, I think Tohatsu will be the one for me. I’m not planning to sell it anyways. Not sure what kind of boat you have, but do you have any experience with adding a floor to a MV? Seems like a floor for a flat jon is simply but the modified v not so much.
  6. I’m leaning Tohatsu. I believe that’s what the dealer recommends. He was actually saying a 25hp would be fine since the boat weighs 320lbs. But if it can support a 35hp max, I don’t see the harm in having a 30hp. My main concern with Tohatsu over other brands is resale value. I’m not sure that it carries as good of a “name” as Mercury, Yamaha, Honda, etc. Am I wrong?
  7. Got it. Thank you! I live in northern Florida and plan to hunt out of the boat as well as red fishing around the edges of the bays. Hope the 30 and this boat model will be a good fit for that.
  8. I’ve recently purchased an Alumacraft MV 1648 SS and now I’m ready to buy the motor. I plan on getting a 30hp tiller, electric start and power tilt/trim. I have dealers that service all major brands in my area so that isn’t a factor. I’d prefer the best performing, light weight engine. The Tohatsu and Mercury 30hp are almost the same price. The Yamaha 25hp is the same price as the 30 in the others (the 30 Yamaha is too heavy and expensive). Can anyone help me find the right motor? I appreciate your help!
  9. I’m purchasing an alumacraft 1648 MV and I’m not sure if I should get the gravity livewell in the center seat or just have storage? I would mainly use it as storage so I want it to be dry. I would occasionally use the livewell. I’m worried about leaks when the plug is in. Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks
