Tournament help
Join a smaller club in your area and become a co-angler/non-boater. I'm starting that this year. It will help a lot to learn new areas and techniques with guys that have been fishing longer than I have been alive. I would try it out for yourself.

Virginia - James River Tournament
Has anyone fished the Annual Bass Fishing Tournament to Benefit the Children's Hospital Foundation on the James River before? This year it is on June 2nd and I am thinking about fishing it. If anyone has fished it before let me know. I would like to know what it's like and how many boats are usually in it. Thinking about taking my dad as my partner for his first tournament. Thanks!

Briery Creek and Sandy River Resevoir
I have fished both but I fish Sandy more often...(Not since last summer however because of military training). From May to August last year, I caught most of my fish in heavy cover with black/blue laminate senkos, black/blue Yum Christie Craws, and green pumpkin Zoom Speed Craws. (All texas rigged except fished the senkos weightless.) Also I have caught plenty of fish on squarebills on the banks. Throw squarebills and lipless crankbaits on the rocks (the dam) to the left when coming out of the boat ramp area. Before your trip, check the Navionics Web App for good areas. Good luck to you. Hopefully someone will chime in about Briery.

Potomac
Going to be at the Potomac river in a few weekends. I plan to put in at Pohick Bay Regional Park. Any tips on where to fish and techniques to use?

Mercury Optimax
Good to hear. Also will the boat be okay putting in at Pohick Bay Regional Park? I have not been there but I know there is a ramp. I don’t want it to be too shallow

Mercury Optimax
So the brackish water will not do any damage to the outboard? That's my only concern and I don't want to risk anything

Bass and crappie fishing locations in Richmond/Central Virginia
Used to go to the reservoir at least 3 times a week. If you know what you're doing it has HOGS in it. My top 2 PB's were caught there. Great rocks, grass, and pads. Just bring a net... ?

Mercury Optimax
Hello again all! I was wondering if it will be okay to run a Mercury Optimax in the Potomac. I have not fished there in two years and that was not on my personal boat. I have no idea how the water is near Ft. Belvoir...(Saltwater, freshwater, brackish, etc.). Any insight on how to fish that river and if the Optimax will have any problems afterwards? (water-wise). Thanks!

I've been fishing my whole life but got into more bass fishing techniques a couple years ago. I joined a club and have my first tournament in a couple weeks as a non-boater. I plan on doing that, then becoming a boater next year because I do have a boat, but want to gain some experience with the guys that have been fishing those waters forever before going on my own. I would highly recommend doing the same thing. Definitely check the above link for local clubs in your area and go from there- Navionics Card
What would be the correct card for a Lowrance HDS7 Insight? And what are the differences between the Navionics+ and the Platinum+? SD or compact flash? Any info is appreciated.- Lake Chesdin
Hey fellow Virginian's, anyone been down to Lake Chesdin recently? What's the water level like on it right now? Normal or lower? And anyone know where the lake is at spawn wise? It'll be the first place I'll be fishing once I'm back from some military training soon. Any knowledge would be appreciated- New Member - Central Virginia
Hey guys. I'm new on the forum but have been fishing the central Virginia area more seriously the past couple of years. I'm a Marine reservist currently on active orders but coming back home to VA in May. I have a 14' Jon boat I use for Lake Chesdin, Swift Creek Reservoir, Sandy and Briery Creek Lakes, Powhatan Lakes, and Amelia Lake. I am about to purchase a 2014 Tracker 175 TXW with a 75hp Mercury to fish more waters and get used to the bass boat life. (Good starter boat in a lot of guys opinions.) I have fished the James, Chickahominy, and Appomattox rivers quite a lot with buddies who have bass boats and now I will be able to go explore those waters more. If anyone has any advice for Lake Chesdin and the rivers that would be much appreciated! Other than work, I will be spending most of the summer fishing as much as I can. Also, anyone let me know if they need a fishing partner for tournaments or if anyone knows any good clubs around. Thanks! - Tournament fishing
