  1. @Pickle_Power Also, I'm going Saturday morning at 4-5am. How would you fish, what would be your gameplan?. Would the whopper/popper be the best choice? Or stickbait? Stick to topwater and spinners and fish fast? Do I fish shallows with vegetation or stay around the dropoff and point? I also have a spinner and rattletrap. Just trying to figure out where and how to best focus my time in the morning since theres only a few good hours.

  3. @Brew City Bass Hmmm a lot to think about. So since the lake can be up to 35' especially the spot I'm looking at should I actually get a 30-40' crank so it can drag the bottom all the way up the drop off? What colors should I be getting? I thought I read chartreuse? Is there a color difference for the shallow vs deep crank? I have a lunkerhunt kraken spinner with white skirt. I've tried yoyoing it, I'll test out the slow roll. When you mean overworked do you mean it wont allow the crank to dive that far? Or it will break? Something like that Unfortunately I'm low on money because the skeet reese rod is 40% off on dicks website till 10pm Pacific lol
  4. What about crankbait then? Specific models and depths?? I found last night that the most active part of the lake so far is a kindof steep drop off from a 5ft bank to 30ft. Found it on the contour map then checked it out last night. That's why I'm considering topwater and then switching to cranks. The vegetation isnt showing much activity so far. I'm willing to get 2 cranks a 3-5' since all of the banks are about 5' but idk what depth to get the deeper diver from 20-30' or just 15. Most of the lake is 20-25' average. But the spot I found is the deepest 30-35'. If you're interested search Rockland lake contour map. The east coast. Also right now I only have a 7ft medium fast rod. I have a shimano 5' light rod which was my first ever. Would that even work? What kindof lures should work on it if so? Is it better for certian lures than by 7ft? I know people use different rod action and power for different lures but never looked into it because I'm not buying another rod rn lol. but have been considering bringing the short so I dont have to cut and retie whenever I want to switch it up
  5. You answered my questions and even answered additional questions i thought of lol. I grabbed a loon 110 just because they had only 2 and I was already there buying a anchor. Any specific hollow frog? The storm chug bug I'll probably have to order. Preferably from dicks. I dont have a baitshop within 30 min of me and that one closes by the time I'm back from work. Hoping to have everything I want to get by tomorrow night, going at 4am Saturday. But the baitshop has a sale starting tomorrow 20% off bait and tackle so I may wait and go buy a bunch of stuff you reccomend from them since I'll be able to get more with the money I have. Just need a list lol. I dont have flukes but I have keitech easy shiner 3". But realized I need smaller hooks for them. I'll for sure keep you posted.
  6. I grabbed the 110 loon just because I was at dicks to grab an anchor. But I'm not at all decided because it is so expensive and I would for sure dive in before giving it up to the lake. Any other specific suggestions then? I've watched videos about walking the dog but didnt look into what bait to use. And then deciding which specific one to buy, color, and weight is a whole new thread lol.
  7. @Pickle_Power Do you suggest the whopper plopper for top water? If so 110 or 130? My rods rated 3/4 and the 130 weighs 13/8oz. Theres a ton of bluegills in my lake. Should I get the blue gill or stick to bone and loon?
  8. Do you see a difference or have a preference between 110 and 130? 130 is out of my rods lure range but I dont think 1 and 3/8oz is too far from the "3/4 limit" right? I use 15lb braid if that matters Also why do u use 190 at night and loon? The "dark silhouette" still applies at night?
  9. Been looking and trying to decide on my first topwater lure. I was going to go with a popper, spook, or maybe a frog but seems like these have a lot of hype. Most of the threads I read in the search only mention only 2 sizes 90 and 130 I think. I think 190 would be too big for my area and also am leaning towards more quantity than quality. But Ive read 90 gets buried sometimes though catching more quantity while the 190 is better for big babes. My question is, Im getting 2, loon and either bone or blood blue (cant decide). Am I safe with going both at 130 even if I want a little higher quantity of bites? Or should I get 2 different sizes and in that case does color tend to attract certain sizes or lm/sm better? Or should I split the difference and get them in 110? I have a lot of bluegill in my lake. Does that mean I should forgo either loon or bone for bluegill? Also my medium fast rod is rated 1/4-3/4. Does that mean I cant use the 130 which is one and three eights oz (for some reason it blocks the numbers from showing lol)? What kindof problems comes from using a heavier lure? Maybe that decided on 2 110s for me lol Im new and just want a lure that can kind of do it all for topwater techniques and situations. And at the same time be on the easier side to learn to fish. Are whopper ploppers the right choice or should I get a popper/spook/frog/etc.? Eventually Ill get more variety of lures but right now I need a topwater and then crank to fish steep banks and points w some vegetation. They are very expensive lures so I just figured it wouldnt hurt to ask for some opinions since I cant find too many answers to my specific questions. Picked up a 110 loon at dicks. I was in a rush to get home and install handles and a trolley. Just realized it says silent and 1oz. All the websites I checked including dicks says 3/4oz and nothing about silent. I thought it made s noise? Did I buy the wrong one? See image
  10. Get a microfiber cloth. Preferably the smaller smooth ones without fibers. I used small ones for my paintball masks when I played nationally. The paint is oil based I think. Or at least extremely oily and they worked flawlessly. Only thing that worked well. Wipe very carefully at first to remove any dust then flip it and get the grease off. Or dip the glasses in water for debris removal but the microfiber actually works better dry.
  11. How far do you typically stay from weed lines? Im not sure if being too close scares thm. I guess for the pockets Ill have to get into the thick stuff to reach it accurately. I would use stick baits in that instance correct? Do you fish along the weed line or from the line towards the middle of the lake? like parallel or perpendicular if that makes sense? If you fish perpendicular do you cast into the weeds and drag it out or right to the edge then reel into the deeper part? Thanks for all the information bud. All these articles and videos dont touch on the minuscule things like that.
  12. Tried the rattle trap yesterday on the east drop off. Right between the drop and shallow theres a line of thick weeds so it had some trouble. But the spot is promising. A guy 15 ft from me using a sm-med roostertail showed up and caught a 2 and 2.5lb sm and I saw a hog jump in the distance. There were tons of baitfish jumping, I guess feeding, like crazy at around 8pm. We were on shore though so it will be easier from a yak to fish that drop. I'll probably grab the chug bug first. Then a crankbait next. I'm not sure if I can fish the north east point. Def not from shore, maybe from a yak. The entire point was filled with alge and lillypads. The vegetation covers a very large area so I need to figure out where the drop off starts. If the drop starts near the edge of the vegetation then it's fine. But if the drop off is deeper in the veg its prob not worth it right? Idt I can fish it otherwise even with a trig. It's such a large area I'm guessing itll be hard to finesse it since they have so much area to roam and sit. Maybe I'll try it.
  13. For the amount of time i get to be on the water, especially with the weather in the past month or two, Im starting to get away from slow stickbait fishing. For crankbaits, what depth do you recommend based off of the map I provided? The depths are a little confusing to me. I can eventually buy 2 depths for shallow and banks but not sure if theyre meant to be dragged or swam from top to bottom, etc. Also suspending, floating, sinking, etc? 3 1/4" or 2.5" chug bug?
  14. What topwater would u suggest? Unfortunately I dont have the money this week to buy a handful of lures to try. So to fish the point and east side drop off Im trying to decide between getting a popper, buzzbait, prop, spook, jerkbait, etc. for topwater. Something you would suggest for both locations. I have plenty of stickbait so I can try dragging that along with a spinner and the rattle trap but I dont exactly have a topwater. The plan was use whatever topwater I buy for a while at both locations. If I get a hit and miss throw the stick bait. If the topwater dosnt produce then switch to dragging/swimming the rattle trap. and eventually wacky rigging senkos if all else fails. Or texas depending if I can tell what kind of foliage is down there. Thats basically the way I think I should be fishing these drops and points based off of what Ive been reading. The only thing I dont understand completely is the time of day to use certain types of bait. I just want to try to avoid going out there and do the complete wrong thing. Even though it seems like there is really no wrong way. Just trying to understand how the bass tend to act at certian times of day and Im seeing contradicting articles. You mean satellite view on google maps? I looked but it dosnt seem to show anything in the water and not much of whats around the bank. Maybe Im looking for the wrong things?
  15. Problem solved. Just put 2 and 2 together and realized I should ask the head of the install team for my company and he has one at his desk. Was so focused on kayaks...
  16. I think @J Francho should drive a few hours south and let me borrow it. Since he stole it from his dad anyways.
  17. Yeaaah i know, i have a large assortment of tools but never had the need for a rivet gun. In the last month I spent $200 on a rod and reel, $150 on tackle lures line etc, and $210 on a kayak on paddle. Plus anchor trolley & anchor, cart, decent rope/straps to tie it down, $100 on 2 pfds, and random caribiners, etc. Just adding up and im trying to be a cheapo by finding another way to do it. But like I said looks like Ill end up buying one so I can use it for my handles and trolley. Thanks for the advice though, ill stop my complaining. I just preferred to complain about this then the fact I havnt caught anything yet ?
  18. I think we should rewind and remember Im not looking to buy a rivet gun if I dont absolutely have to lol. But it looks like I will
  19. There arnt any handles. Theres bungies for the paddle on both sides, pads for your knees and side pockets with a rubber mesh. The center hatch is virtually another bigger cup holder. Cant get to the inner walls, the screwed in lid is just on the surface. I had to waddle this thing off the dock sideways in the dark because I couldnt get the cart to stay in place. I was excited and went out after work at 7pm. Didnt really think it through, someone helped me bring it down but I was the last one on the water.
  20. its a Sun Dolphin Journey 10 SS. I know, a lot of people say its a cheap piece of junk but its my first one and im more than happy with it. Dont have any problems for what I need. Except the handles, It dosnt tie to my cart well but is light enough to just carry to the dock. Ill buy some well nuts for my trolley. Im just gonna diy that too with 2 pulleys, 550 cord and maybe a z lock. Im pretty sure Im just gonna secure the pulleys instead of letting them move. Dont want more noise.
  21. I'll never have this in salt water. Maybe brackish water of the hudson river but very slim chance. I plan on using silicone water sealant like I have for other screws and holes which should help with the rust. Washers on both sides are impossible. I cant access the other side, its enclosed. Does the link I left look good?
  22. Will the well nut hold through the stress of using a handle? I didnt know about these, that's why I posted, thanks! Dont really want to buy a rivet gun if I dont have to.
  23. I have a sit on top kayak that I need to install 2 handles on. One on each side. What kind of screws/hardware do you reccomend? The handles and my anchor trolley comes with screws and nuts which will not work on my kayak. The walls are double sided and enclosed so theres no way to put a nut on. But the kayak is only used in lakes so i can use normal screws if needed. Not worried about it ripping out too much. The handles will have to endure the weight and knocking around while moving it. Does anyone know approximately how wide the wall is? 1/8th inch? The only thing I can think of are short shallow wall anchors. So I need to get the right gap size so it will sandwich the wall and not be too wide and loose. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00L1IT0M4/ref=pd_aw_lpo_60_bs_img_1/138-6181852-6027540?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=JXKHN0FYQJXE3CPSQZWM
  24. I wear polarized sunglasses pretty much until the sun is completely gone. Tons of videos say in the summer bass will still school and to look for that and schools of bluegill and minnows etc. Also to check the vegetation in the water, watch your line and also mention that theyll see a bass in the grass, lilly's, etc. Ive tried this even when you can see the bottom of 4-5ft banks but I cant see much more than 3-4 feet or less from my location. Am I doing something wrong or is this just a downside to being low in a kayak? I know I just need to keep practicing but half the battle is finding them. I've fished large areas of lily pads and trees with no success even after I've been told they're honey holes. Attached the lakes contour map if anyone wants to help me learn to read it better. The north west corner has a wide patch of Lilly pads and grass. West side on the southern half has lillypads all the way down with a lot of coon tails between the middle of lake up to the lilly pads. I'll fish morning and night. Using so far a spinner but mostly senkos weightless because I keep getting snagged in the coontails. Also have a clipless rattle trap which I havnt tried yet. The north east corner, is that what's called a point? Havnt fished the east side too much yet. Not as much vegetation over there. Not sure if the map tells you this but any advice on what lures you would use? I understand the best way to learn is to get out and fish. But I figure why not try to learn when I'm not on the water especially since I can only get out there 1-2 times a week and the weekends have been thunderstorms all day. Also I've been told by a few people that theyve caught a lot of hefty lm and even big sm. So I know it's not a barren lake. I just suck lol. Which is getting frustrating and discouraging. but its creating an obsession for success.
  25. Any idea what screws I can buy for this system? So I'll need to buy some kind of screw, it's a sit on top do I cant use nuts, seems like every kit has nuts. So my plan is Buy 2 pulleys and something to fasten the pulleys 6 screws (4 for pulleys 2 for z lock) 1 Z lock from dicks $10 Use Paracord, some kind of ring, and a small hook to hold the anchor. Its a small kayak so I figure I can just leave the anchor on the side out of the water on the hook. All this plus an anchor should be less than $30 Edit Actually I found a bunch of trolleys on amazon for $20 or less. Looks like it has everything more expensive kits have and I cant see why the quality would be any worst. Any objections to random amazon kits?
