Calcutta 200GTB - stay old school or update?
I have actually been keeping my eye out for a new or used 100 or 50 size Calcutta. I see the 100B still on the shimano website but can’t find one in stock anywhere. Does anyone know if the 100B is being phased out or is in stock anywhere? I can e mail shimano too but was just curious...

Calcutta 200GTB - stay old school or update?
Thanks guys it’s a beauty reel alright, made in Japan, I have added a hawtech handle, Boca bearings and carbontex drag. It’s a bit bulky on a lighter rod like the MBR but it’s smooth and casts great. Sounds like I outta just add another combo if I want to add a more modern reel. Have a curado 70 on a 2 power loomis so maybe look for something in between. This time of winter is always when I get to thinking what could be improved in the arsenal and I get lured in by the latest and greatest gear. But forget sometimes the arsenal has worked as it is now for quite a few years without any problems..

Calcutta 200GTB - stay old school or update?
I have a Calcutta 200GTB. Its a solid performer as we all know that no doubt will last forever. I have it mounted on my Loomis MBR783 E6X and use it for a bit of everything. It was a gift that means something to me so I like to use it. If I bought it myself I likely would of bought a smaller Calcutta but this is what I have. It is heavy and arguably old fashioned by today’s standards. I find myself tempted more by newer, lighter models like curado and really liked the look of Chronarch mgl... I’m the type to have a couple multipurpose set ups not a boat load of combos. So in today world of modern reels would you update and retire the Calcutta or would you stick old school for a multi purpose reel? What would the Calcutta be ideal for if it was semi retired ?

Shimano Aldebaran 50mg size question
Thanks I am going to try the metanium mgl. $299 seems like a great deal on this reel. Plus I got 10% off at AL to sign up for their newsletter. Free shipping too. So $268 usd shipped. Even converted to cdn its still a great deal. Cdn MSRP for metanium mgl is $599 up here plus sales tax. So even if I don’t like it I should be able to sell it without loosing too bad. Still would like an Alderbaran or scorpion at some point but will see how this one works out. Still wondering if the profile will be a bit bigger than I want on my medium Loomis rod but at the price I couldn’t pass up trying it out..

Shimano Aldebaran 50mg size question
That’s super helpful thanks so much. And a great price on the metanium for sure. Frame size wise is the metanium compact like the scorpion? Compact is good for my 2 power loomis. Thanks again

Shimano Aldebaran 50mg size question
Ok so from Japan tackle it looks like I can get a Scorpion 70xg for $198 usd plus shipping. Even with exchange (I’m in Canada) this is still pretty reasonable. Realizing it’s not an Aldebaran but still a good Reel for far less. Any downsides to this reel ordered from Japan? Only Xg and hg available so is hg ok for topwaters, jerks etc

1000 size stradic fl
Do it. I got a new 1000 fl. Very solid and smooth. No chance to use it till spring but it is a sweet little reel. not much difference from my ci4 really in weight and might even be smoother.

Shimano Aldebaran 50mg size question
There are still some prior model Aldebaran on Amazon etc at pretty good prices. Does the MGL spool really make that big of a difference ?

Shimano Aldebaran 50mg size question
Oh man that is pretty fancy.. Cool thanks. Found a prior generation at a decent price used. Could be an option. No complaint with that generation then?

Shimano Aldebaran 50mg size question
Hmm I was hoping to kick this urge I have to buy one of these reels. But this isn’t helping. They are pricey but I imagine worth it in the long run. With my cr722 this combo would be like a feather I’d imagine

Shimano Aldebaran 50mg size question
I’ve been doing some research on this reel and it gets primarily awesome reviews. I’m considering splurging on one as a match to my new Loomis CR722 imx pro. Have decent stuff but this would be 1st step into a “higher end” reel. Small 1/4 poppers, some jerk baits small cranks and plastics for this combo. Have my curado DC on it now and it feels ok but the curado does feel a bit heavy on this rod. Aldebaran is super light I see but I can’t really see one local before buying. Can anyone tell me how the frame size of the curado Dc vs alberdan compares? I assume Aldebaran is smaller perhaps which would be fine on this rod. I know the 50 size means the spool is smaller but how about the frame? And I guess anyone who has Aldebaran are they as awesome as people say and a good match for a light weight 2 power loomis rod?

Opinions: The Most UNDER / OVER rated Rods & Reels
I have 2 6’6” shimano compre spinning rods a ml and a m. Probably 12 years old plus both of them. $100 or less rods back in the day. Underrated rods I think. I have newer Loomis rods today that are awesome but those compres still get certain jobs done well every year. Pretty light and sensitive I saw little difference between them and a 1st gen E6x I bought at nearly triple the cost.

Show off your Stuff
My new Loomis “classic casting” CR722 imx-pro just came in. Paired with my Curado DC 150HG. First imx pro I have seen in person and it is real nice. Got it for SMB in the kayak and poppers, Jerks in the boat.

Loomis SJR782 imx good enough or go Glx?
Ok so final pricing came in on this and with discounts from my local small tackle store the glx SJR782 is $90 more (cdn) than the imx pro sjr. I’m actually leaning to the imx pro. Not so much because of the $90 but I think they look sharp and would still be a good higher end choice all around. Got my imx pro CR722 I had ordered and I have to say it’s really nice although I won’t be able to fish it for a while yet. Is that nuts to not go to glx for $90 difference? Got to be lots of fish caught by happy imx owners over the years I would think.

Loomis SJR782 imx good enough or go Glx?
Right on thanks for the help. I’m thinking GlX is the way to go and I’ll probably like the spit grip once I’m used to it. It will be a long wait till spring now

Loomis SJR782 imx good enough or go Glx?
Thanks guys, I really want to want the SJR GLX and this is helping. Anyone run one with a stradic Ci4 2500 or 3000? I have a 3000 and hoping it pairs well with GlX or Imx pro

Loomis SJR782 imx good enough or go Glx?
Thank you! So In casting I will stick with imx pro. Seems the reel seat is a concern for many and for moving baits Im sure it’s plenty nice. But on this spinning rod I’m looking to upgrade I want the best available for sensitivity. So you have no issues with the reel seat on the latest Glx spinning models?

Loomis SJR782 imx good enough or go Glx?
Recently ordered a new Imx pro CR722 casting rod. Have not got it yet but Dealer is giving me a good price and a bit better price again if I order another. So I’m considering updating my E6X Wjr782 at same time to basically the same rod in imx pro or perhaps glx. Which one would you all go with based on your experience? I feel like imx will be a good upgrade from my E6X and looks like it will be comfortable and familiar. Like the look and the full grip. But will I be missing out on anything by not making jump to GLX? The price difference is slight So if I’m updating for the long term it’s not really a factor here. The glx im not crazy about the split grip and have read the reel seat is perhaps a concern? I’m picturing this being a long term all around spinning rod so want to make the right choice.. I should add my loomis rods at present time are E6X so this will be my 1st jump up. The one I’m looking to update is pre 2018 model

Gloomis CR722 vs Mbr782c
Fishwizard a question regarding balance on the 6’ imx. What reels do run or how do you find the balance ? My curado DC weighs 7.8 ounces... neither lightweight or a heavyweight by today’s standards. I’m looking at the 2 power rod so a bit different than you have but curious what reel weight experience/opinions you may have on the short rods?

Gloomis CR722 vs Mbr782c
Thanks for the replies guys. I might have to try and visit a show here this winter and hold both. Doesn’t sound like I’d be disappointed in either one really. The GlX is tempting, I have wanted to own a GLX for awhile and I can get it for not much more than the IMX pro. But then I give up on my 6’ rod idea. So may need to see them in person

Gloomis CR722 vs Mbr782c
Picked up a Curado DC 150hg on a sweet Black Friday deal. Have been wanting to try one. But now I need a rod to go with it... I like Loomis and have an MBR 783 E6X now that is a great all around rod. Most of my rods are 6 6”. The 783 is as heavy as I would ever need where I fish in Canada. I was thinking the new IMX pro CR722 classic casting 6’ medium. This would be for topwaters, hard and soft jerk baits small cranks and spinners and maybe wacky senkos/light plastics if needed. Never had a 6’ rod but I’m thinking it would be a fun little rod with this reel for these purposes and also good size for when I fish in the kayak? My other thought is the mbr782c my dealer will give me a good deal on the glx and I know there is lots of love for this rod out there. So looking for opinion and experience on 6’ loomis classic casting rod vs Mbr782c? I’m in Canada, almost all SMB for me, lighter cover situations mostly.
