Hello, I'm looking for an easy, cheap method to keep fish alive after I catch them in my jon boat, and then transfer them in a cooler to a different pond. Will any of those inexpensive bubble aerators work that run off of "D" batteries? While I am on the boat, I don't mind using a cooler, stringer, basket, etc. However, they need to stay alive while I am fishing for a few hours, and then I will need to transfer them to a pond that's another 30 minutes away. Note, I know there will be more expensive live wells / aerators, but I NEVER keep fish (this is the first time in ~20 years, and it's just so they can be transferred to another pond). So, I am looking for something that is cheap and easy bc I have no plans to use it again (unless we transfer fish a few times). I'd prefer not spending a couple hours time, plus ruining a cooler, to custom make a live well. The outdoor temperature is ~75 degrees, so it isn't too hot at this time.

I have not used a Daiwa Tatula rod, but I hear good things about them. Since they were mentioned a few times already, Sportsmans Outfitters has them on sale for $110 now, in case your interested. I don't have any experience first-hand with anything but budget rods, so take this advice with a grain of salt....I purchased a Lew's Hank Parker Series rod from walmart for $40. They are 6'10", I believe, and it has been a good rod for me. They sell this one in a M or a MH. I only have the medium, but I'm pretty content with it. The nice part about walmart is that you can go feel both of them in store, buy the one you want, and if you don't like it, they have not given me any problems with returning fishing equipment.

I’m curious if anyone has used one of these new reels? How do you like it? How does it compare to other similar reels (Elite, Tatula sv tw, etc.)? Will it work well for freshwater bass fishing?

I have a lightly used cu-200b and I like it. It is quite smooth. It's more bulky than some of today's smaller 100 size reels, but I still like/use it today.

That's actually who I purchased the reel from. They were great, and had good pricing too. I will definitely use them again in the future for future purchases.

For what it’s worth, I contacted Daiwa prior to purchasing this reel. I asked for a breakdown and comparison between the Zillion, Elite, and SVTW103. I informed them that this will be an all-around casting reel used mainly on a MH, fast action rod. I use soft plastics with a light weight ~50% of the time. For me, they suggested that I go with the SVTW103, which is what I went with. They said that the Zillion is more bulky and heavier, which can be noticeable when I’m using soft plastics and jigs. And they said the elite has a slight casting distance advantage, but they stressed twice that I need a well trained thumb as it doesn’t offer the same backlash resistance. I’m just bummed bc I got a great deal on this reel (the sale is now over so if I return it I can’t get a good deal on a replacement reel). However, the bearings don’t feel faulty, but they sound like the bearings on my cheap Abu Garcia $30 reel - Note, I can tell the Daiwa is a better reel, but both reels sound about the same. ?

I have thought about returning it. That brings up the next question...Do I try another one or look for another brand?

I recently purchased a 2020 tatula sv tw103. I have not hit the water with it yet, but I have a few initial thoughts that others may like to know. I have heard that these sometimes come with a lack of grease/oil. I haven't opened anything up, but the worm gear does have grease on it. The compact feel and size of the reel is comfortable in my hands. When reeling, the reel is fairly "geary." I don't have much to compare it to, but I have two bantam curado's (one is ~20 years old and the other is ~10 years old). Both of my curado's are WAY more smooth when reeling. I don't believe anything is wrong with this Tatula reel, I just feel that it is much less smooth than my other reels (which seems odd to me bc I have not opened/oiled/greased either of my curado's since I have owned them - note, I am easy on my reels and they only get used a handful of times per year). Once again, I have not used this Tatula reel yet so I can't comment how it performs on the water. Does this "geary" feel make anyone concerned? I don't want to use this reel if it would be best to return the Diawa and go with another Shimano, etc. Also, I don't mind a reel that is geary feeling if it's going to be an awesome reel. However, when I can go to the store and feel a reel that is smooth as this one for 1/4 of the price, it makes me wonder. Any suggestions?

I have an old bantam 200 that needs cleaned/lubed. It's old enough that I'm not sure where to find a parts schematic. I'm a little scared to open it up as I don't want random parts falling out. Any tips on cleaning/lubing these older reels?

I have not used either the SV or the Elite. I will note that when I worm fish, I usually only use a 1/16 oz weight. I like it small so it makes less noise when it hits the water. So, I want the reel to cast lighter baits. I'm not opposed to the Elite, I just don't know which might better suite my needs.

Has anyone tried the 2020 Tatula SV baitcasting reel? I like how it is lighter and more compact than the previous version. However, before I purchased one, I wanted to make sure there was no reason why I should avoid it over the previous version? Also, for a universal purpose reel for largemouth bass (60% of the time it will be used for fishing jigs/worms/creature bait and the remainder it will be used with spinners, crank baits, buzz baits, etc.), is 7.3:1 the best gear ratio?

I have a feeling that any of these will work fine. To me, the power on these rods seems a little bit light, but maybe that’s just in my head.

I wasn't sure if either of the Med power rods would do good enough setting the hook through a worm texas rigged?

I'm going to get an inexpensive spinning rod (berkley lightning, NOT the shock) that I can use when I go on vacations to the lake for large mouth bass fishing. I'll be fishing out of a jon boat mainly. 75% of the time I use a 7-inch worm with a 1/4oz weight. The rest of the time I'll use this rod for top water, spinners, cranks, or jigs. I'll only be using 8-10 lb monofilament line, so none of the baits will be too large and I normally don't fish in really heavy cover. My options on the Berkley lightning rods that are available are a 6'6" Med power with Med-fast action, OR 7' Med power with Med-fast action, OR 7' MH power with extra fast action. Of these three rods, which would be best for my needs? Note: I know there are better rods out there - I'll only be paying $20 for this lightning rod so that is the one I'm going to get.

While this may be the case, many people really like Big Game. Also, many compare Trilene XL to Sufix Elite. I don’t know one way or the other, I’m just surprised to read so many contradicting statements. Just to be clear, I’ve never used XT. I have used, and just purchased more XL, to replace the big game. It may not be a bad batch of line. I was just confused why the line feels rough right out of the package (prior to touching my rod or reel). The last spool of Trilene XL that I purchased 10+ years ago felt smooth to the touch, from what I can remember.

It’s on a spinning reel. However, both lines had this rough feeling right out of the package. I’m not sure that I put the line on the reel the best way, but the line doesn’t feel any worse on the reel than it did right out of the package. I normally run the line through the eyelets, tie it to the reel, and start reeling while holding finger pressure on the line. This is how I’ve always done it (not sure if this is the correct or incorrect what), but it’s never given me any problems previously.

Hi, I recently purchased some 10 lb Trilene big game and it was near non-functional. There is a lot of memory and the line feels "rough." I'm not sure if the line is twisted, has severe memory issues, or is just bad. I have used KVD line conditioner on it twice and that provided next to no benefit. I have since removed all of the line, returned it to Walmart and purchased some Trilene XL mono 10 lb. While this line isn't quite as bad, it's very close. I have always used Trilene XL years ago and never had this problem. I have not purchased a new spool of line for some time, so I'm trying to figure out what the deal is. Do I just need to use the line and see if it smooths out? Is it twisted, or is it just bad? The line feels this way right out of the package (prior to putting it on my reel). The date on the package is 11/2019. Any idea what is going on?

Hi, I'm looking for some suggestions on pre-spawn largemouth lures to try. I went out a week ago to my farm pond and I didn't get a single bite. This rarely happens at this pond. I fished the whole lake from a boat. The lures that I tried were a black and blue 7" worm (texas rig), watermelon seed chomper twin tail (ned rig), 3/8oz white spinner and also a yellow spinner, rapala super shad (black/silver) crankbait, and a beetle spin (in an attempt to get bites from anything - small bass, bluegill, crappie, etc.). I'm not sure the exact water temps now (I'm in the St. Louis, MO area), but I'm betting they are in the upper 40's? It may have just been one of those bad days, but I'm wanting to given it a shot again. Any suggestions on what lures and colors to try?

Would there be any rod that is significantly better if I spent $90-100?

Hello, I’m looking for a new rod for my Shimano Bantum Curado reel. I rarely fish anymore, so it’ll only get used a couple times a year. I’m currently using a hand-be-down 5’6” rod that’s likely as old as me (yes, it’s terrible). I’m looking for a universal rod that can be used with rubber worms (used with a small weight), medium weight jugs, small to medium crankbaits and medium sized spinners/buzz baits. I’m hoping I can find a decent rod in the $50-$70 price range, that can be a universal rod. My initial thought was a rod that was a MH and 6’6,” but I’m open to suggestions, and I’m clueless on the action that I need. I’d like it to be able to cast the lighter worms/cranks/spinners ok, but also be able to handle the medium weight ones too. I mainly fish farm ponds without heavy brush, using 8-12 pound test line, from a boat or from the bank. Any suggestions on a decent, entry level rod that would work okay in these circumstances? Once again, I’m not looking to buy multiple rods as I’m looking for a decent do-it-all, entry level rod. Thanks for any help!
