This was caught in a good sized reservoir in eastern Massachusetts, about 10 yards from the shoreline (3 inch plastic worm). I'm pretty new to fishing in general and decided to just go on a whim a little bit ago. Somehow I got lucky and caught a bunch of sunfish without really knowing what I was doing, but now I'm hooked. Now I just need to learn how to take a better selfie while holding a fish Just yesterday I hooked what looked like a much larger bass, but I lost it right as I was getting it out of the water. I don't think I've been so frustrated in a long time!

Sorry for the really terrible picture, but I was wondering if someone could help me identify what fish this is. Are there any identifying features from this angle? Perhaps a young smallmouth? Thanks!
