I use a small slot driver and lightly lift under the two black engagment tab pins on all of the rounds we have been upgrading/servicing. It will come off (slowly but surely), just make sure you replace it in the same place...

.RM.'s post in Reel Handle Hard To Turn With Drag Tightened Down? was marked as the answerStarting point, I would recommend getting the schematic out and checking the way you stacked the crank assembly.
Leave one washer out in the drag spring part of the stack, thats between the AR bearing pack and the drag star, and the crank will sometimes bind when the drag star is adjusted tight.
Never brake a reel down without the schematic in front of you..
