  2. I had the identical problem with my rod and reel. I tried different braid types with no change. The fraying would be there after only one casting session. I checked the guides and they were all perfect. I then checked my reel. I noticed that on the edge of the top of the line spool there were nicks that were causing the line to fray during the cast. I used fine sandpaper to clean up the spoon and that solved my problem.
