Buy used trolling motors off Amazon?
Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing regarding condition and ultimately this being used and probably getting scratched & dented regardless. I saw another one pop-up and passed up on it over the weekend. Although, I'm looking for a deal on the shorter shaft kayak version of the trolling motor, which tends to run more expensive. I guess it doesn't really matter which one I get at the end of the day though.

Battery box for trolling motors?
Thanks all, I think I'm gonna go with a Camco box - planning to use a group 29 battery (12v100ah) and the Noco boxes in that size are hard to find at least on Amazon haha. The Camco box is $10 and looks to be more or less the same thing. What size terminal posts am I going to need for the trolling motor connections btw? M10s? I figure I'll just go real simple and eventually add a 12v DC adapter and USB plugs at a later time. Am I going to need a 60amp fuse too?

Newb to bass fishing in SoCal
Do you suggest the straight tail, fat straight tail, or curly tail robos? And what length? 4.5? I'm assuming these are slow sinking?

Newb to bass fishing in SoCal
Went back out today and scratched out a dink on a robo-type worm hahah: I saw a bunch of bigger ones cruising the banks back and forth but they were mostly disinterested in all of my offerings. I was throwing everything I could... I got the dink on the roboworm-ish lure 3rd from the bottom. Some of the other fish seemed slightly interested. Otherwise, they didn't really like any of the other lures at all. The only ones I've caught fish on there are the top two. I threw those and the fish weren't that interested either. Actually, I almost caught another dink on the green/brown bait second from the top. I was pretty much fishing all of these weightless and wacky hooked most of the time. I tried nose-hooking on several occasions but nothing. Not quite sure how to target these bass when they're cruising. As soon as I would drop it in front of them they would turn and swim the other way or swim around it. I got a couple of the bigger ones to stop and look at the bait but they shortly swam off. I'm sure most of these are so heavily pressured that they're just super smart.

Battery box for trolling motors?
Thanks for the tip! I saw a video from a reviewer on Amazon showing this issue! Sounds like an application of dielectric grease and or Corrosion X around the terminals and exposed metal parts might be in order... and possibly swapping out some of the nuts with SS ones. I saw one review that mentioned how the display/read-out got splashed and was ruined. Are there small spaces where the display is that would allow for water intrusion? I'm wondering if it would make sense to apply some silicone in those areas. Oh, I've also heard of people drilling holes in the bottoms of these battery cases to allow water to drain out if they get submerged. I'd be scared of the battery leaking and spilling out though!

Battery box for trolling motors?
Agh, I just read a number of reviews on Amazon about the parts used not being suitable for saltwater use. I would plan on using this around saltwater as well as freshwater. Some reviews do say these parts are replaceable so I suppose I could deal with it...

BTW BTW: how did you connect the USB to charge off the AUX port? Does it use a standard car DC plug?

Battery box for trolling motors?
Great to know. I'll look into that one! Do you run SLA batteries?

Battery box for trolling motors?
I saw one by Newport Vessels and read some reviews about the plastic melting from the terminals overheating, particularly when the motor is run on high. Have you experienced anything like this with the Minn Kota box?

Battery box for trolling motors?
Hey all, Do you guys recommend using battery boxes for holding bigger batteries for electric trolling motors? And if so, is it better to build your own or buy one of those manufactured ones like the Minn Kota (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001PTHKMG). I read briefly that you probably want this for the SLA batteries but it may not be necessary for LiFe4PO and AGM batteries. Better just to go with the latter?

Buy used trolling motors off Amazon?
Yea, I was looking at a 55lb thrust from Newport Vessels. Just the basic transom mount version. The condition said there were "cosmetic imperfections" all over it but that it was "acceptable" - I figure there's probably not a ton else that could have been wrong with it. The price was really great though, and it seems tough finding any deals on used electric trolling motors these days.

Buy used trolling motors off Amazon?
Thanks, Yea, I'm wondering if I should go for the "acceptable" - I have a feeling this means that it was either badly damaged and dented up during its prior shipment OR that someone actually used the thing then returned it shortly after. The description of the item shows multiple "cosmetic imperfections" so not sure. I think returns are free so I suppose I could always buy and return if it's in much worse condition. EDIT: there was one for the lower price in acceptable condition last night and it's gone as of this AM, so looks like someone scooped it up fast. Same thing happened several days ago. So it seems like people are eagerly jumping on "acceptable" condition trolling motors. Guess I'll be on the lookout and do the same the next time another one pops up.

Newb to bass fishing in SoCal
Yea, per the last couple times I went it was discouraging, so the first time I went and pulled three out I'm sure was a fluke and beginner's luck haha. I'll try weightless senkos next time. I was trying to get my dropshot rig up into the weeds as much as I could but it was tough. There were a few times where I saw bass within a foot of the bank and I just lowered my bait into the water and tried to tick them off but they weren't having it. I tried doing this to a bluegill too and it wasn't working. A few of the smaller bass would chase my plastics and nip at them but the bigger ones were too smart.

Buy used trolling motors off Amazon?
Hey all, Has anyone here purchased a used trolling motor from Amazon warehouse? Either in very good or acceptable condition? Have you had ok/good experiences? Or would you avoid doing so and just getting it new for whatever price, or Like New at worst?

Newb to bass fishing in SoCal
Thanks for the tips! I'll try weightless next time I go out. What lb test and or line type would you suggest for fishing cover like that? Straight braid? Flouro? And at least 8-10lb? Seems mono would be counterproductive for fishing weightless senkos since it seems to have the tendency to float.

Newb to bass fishing in SoCal
Thanks all! For the Texas rigged worm, what weight(s) do you suggest? I'm assuming the more 'free-fall' the better? My drop-shot rigs have all been on 3.5grams For the weightless senko you just tie the hook straight to the end and wacky rig the [sinking] worm on it? I don't have senkos but I have similar worms that sink (I think) so maybe I'll give those a shot. What about colors? I've heard to fish darker colors in low-light conditions and natural colors when it's brighter/sunnier out? What about the chartreuse, pink, firetiger, etc colors? Do you fish those when the water is murky/cloudy? Also do you tend to want to cast up right into the thick of the reeds in these cases? I've been afraid to do that mostly out of fear of getting snagged (especially as I'm fishing on a BFS-type setup and running 4lb test haha)

Newb to bass fishing in SoCal
Hey guys, So my buddy convinced me to join him to target bass last weekend and it wrecked me - conditions were perfect for sight-fishing and I ended up catching three on the drop shot (two were actually blind casts around where I knew they were cruising and one was sight fished while it was hovering around a bed). Prior to this, I had never targeted bass before and only caught one incidentally at a local park pond in NorCal while throwing a Lip Ripperz spoon. Needless to say, I'm now 'hooked' and want to get another one. I've gone back to the same lake twice (Laguna Niguel) and skunked. Although, the last couple times I went out it was midday and late morning - the first time I went out was actually on a Saturday but early AM. Yesterday, I noticed in a couple spots smaller bass (?) swimming around and occasionally a larger bass coming out of the weeds and chasing them if they got too close. Spotted a bluegill chilling out too. Today I went back and only saw a couple bass hiding out around the weeds/reeds. I tried drop shotting with multiple different baits: worms, flukes, leech-type worms, etc and in different colors but couldn't entice a bite. I also threw one of those micro crankbaits out yesterday but no luck. Any other tips/tactics to try out to get these things to bite? I figure they're high-pressured with tons of people harassing them pretty constantly. Generally speaking, are LM bass more actively feeding and willing to bite in the early AM and late PM/early evening hours?

Blackmax turning handle without spool?
lol - it's THE REEL TEST's fault. The BFS spool he reviews for the Revo X also fits the Black Max (and I think all other *Max reels for that matter). I just wanted to play around with the Bmax since I was always curious about it

Blackmax turning handle without spool?
Are the spools on the Tatula interchangeable with the Fuego? Wondering which BFS spool is the right one for the Fuego

Blackmax turning handle without spool?
Hey all, I was cleaning out the spool bearings earlier on my Blackmax and noticed, with the spool out, that the handle doesn't engage and turn (you can force it but probably a bad idea). Is this normal for these reels?

Willow Beach AZ tips for striped bass?
Thanks for the tip! I tried 'trolling' a glide bait and also AC Plug but it was fruitless. I think I got a bump on the glide bait but that was it. The toughest part was trying to get around in the tube LOL. The current was moving a little too fast for the tube. I'm glad I had installed oars on it else I would have gotten stranded down river somewhere. Next time I'll see about catching baitfish or grabbing some frozen anchovies. Good tip on the bobber. I'll give it a go next time. I did have a Deeper Pro+ that I borrowed from a buddy and saw some nice marks on it (pretty sure there were stripers in the mix) but just couldn't get them to bite.

Willow Beach AZ tips for striped bass?
Hey guys, Planning on spending a night at Willow Beach AZ in early October on the way back from the Grand Canyon. Was hoping to target stripers (and trout) either by shore or possibly float tube (I'm currently in the process of trying to add oars to an outcast super fat cat lcs float tube). Was looking for suggestions on how to target these fish in freshwater whether off the tube or from shore and really just making the most of my time there since it's going to be limited. Also looking suggestions on gear to bring. I have some 300 and 400 sized baitcasters (concept z and okuma komodos) as well as heavier conventional gear. Spinning gear is 4000 at the biggest. My bigger 6000 sized reels are up in the Bay Area currently. I have targeted and caught a striper in the surf but nothing from freshwater yet so definitely a noob. Thanks
