The TP1 Black, rather. Why the names are so close even though they use a different blank is beyond me.

How Often Do You Clean Your Reels?
I just dunk em in the lake when they start squeaking. Lake Austin had some clean water, right? ?

I got the 7’ MH fast. It was between the TP1X and the Dobyns Fury. My better half would only allow one so it’s the Lew’s now and the Dobyns for Christmas...or next week ?

Bought a Lews TP1 Black. Should be coming in any day now! Gonna pair it with a BB1 Pro.

Making the leap
I’m a big proponent of using a shotgun for home defense for newer shooters. Handguns are the most difficult civilian firearm to become proficient with while shotguns are the easiest. In a situation where a firearm would be needed to be used in a home defense scenario, tensions are high and everyone’s shooting abilities are greatly diminished, especially newer shooters. Combine this with a much lower risk of bullet over-penetration and many will find a shotgun suits them better than a handgun. Regardless of whichever firearm you procure, I cannot stress enough the importance of continual practice. Best of luck!

I learned on FC and it probably cost me $60 in line. I would imagine mono is slightly easier to learn on as it’s more manageable. I would also wager that if an angler cannot skip, line choice is likely not the largest factor. As for braid, I’ve only tried on 65lb and found it to be marginally more difficult, but still very doable. As an update, I tried skipping a crankbait, it was pretty difficult but definitely not impossible. Skipping distance was pretty bad. I was using a 6th sense crank and I’ve always thought that they used slightly too large of hooks. Maybe this made it worse? Gonna try with some Strike King cranks and see how that goes.- Skipping the unskippable
Hey y’all, I was out on the canoe today on Lake Austin skipping docks with a Andy Montgomery skipping jig. Wasn’t having much luck so I rigged up a senko with a 1/4oz weight and skipped it under. After pulling out 2 dinks, I got a wild hair up my rear and rigged up a 14inch ribbon tail worm. To my amazement, I was actually able to skip it. Granted, not very far but still a good 10-15 feet. Unfortunately, it was getting dark and I had to call it a day shortly after. This got me thinking, are there any lures y’all skip that conventional wisdom would lead you to believe aren’t good or even impossible to skip? The first that comes to my mind is a crankbait. I’m eager to blow up a couple of reels tomorrow morning trying.- New from Texas!
Thanks for the welcome! I have only sailed a handful of times back at summer camps when I was much younger. Getting knocked upside the head with the swinging boom a couple of times turned me off the whole experience, lol. The reason I picked the handle is because I just took delivery of a 2020 Searay 190 SPX that will be named “The Flying Dutchman”. It was between that and “Black Pearl”- New from Texas!
Hey y’all, Happy to finally be a part of the community! I recently moved back to Austin, Texas from Las Vegas, NV back in March. I started bass fishing in March with everything being shut down. Now, it’s practically all I do! I play poker for a living and now that I’m playing online full-time, I have tons of opportunities to fish. I’m currently fishing everyday for 3-4 hours and I’m loving it! I have a canoe on Lake Austin that predates my fishing hobby. I’m looking to upgrade to a kayak soon. As with most hobbies I have, I jump in with both feet. I’m currently looking at getting the new Old Town sportsman autopilot 120. God bless my wallet. So far, I’ve found Lew’s to by my equipment of choice. So far, I’ve accumulated a BB1 Pro, Mach Crush, Classic Pro, and Jason Christie speed spool. I had a couple Abu pro-max reels but didn’t like them and sold em. As for rods, I’m using Lews IM7 speed sticks now. I tried the Berkley Lightning Shock and promptly returned it. Also, tried the Abu Vengence for my frogging rod and realized frogging isn’t my jam. Planning on upgrading a few rods this month. So far, on the fence between Dobyns Fury rods, or the new TP1X series rods. Anyway, happy to be a part of the community and I know I’ll learn a lot from y’all! Take care, Jon - Skipping the unskippable
