  1. Are you they bad? I just ordered a bunch of those baits. A video from zman states the snaps they use are more stout for use in cover.
  2. I put together a Curado 70 MLG with a Curado 6'10" med-fast rod. It's main purpose is to cast wacky rigs because I was sick of line twist issues with them on spinning gear. Shimano offers a BFS rod in the Curado line (C72ML BFSA ). Nice rods for the money. Have you looked at the JDM tackle websites in Japan? The U.S. dollar is about as high as it's been in years to the JP yen.
  3. I'm in Canada as well. When I looked, the 150 MGL is a bit more than the Tatula SV103. $250 CAD for the SV and $280 for the MGL 150. I just ordered a Daiwa Alphas TW SV from Japan. Not that you needed another option, but our dollar buys more JPY than it has in years. Lol
  4. Those hooks will work! a Vmc Neko Finesse hook. @T-Billy Tackle Warehouse sells them. I'm in Canada but have to order from there sometimes because I can't find some things up here.
  5. Essentially, yes. Those ned craws are pretty small. I have #1/0 hooks and they're too big.
  6. I have the Tatula SV103 TW reels.
  7. That 150 MGL is a nice reel. I tried one. I own the 70 MGL and like that as well. I own Daiwa SV103s and the Elite PF. The SV103 is about as fool proof a reel can be. You have to try pretty hard to get it to backlash. The Elite PF I haven't used yet (season not open here). One thing though, I love the Daiwas but I always noticed that the Shimanos feel more refined. Like, tighter tolerances. Durability they seem pretty equal. Diawas at the higher end are spot on with Shimanos IMO. All about which breaking system and feel you like.
  8. Has anyone used a straight shank hook for ned rigs (specifically Ned craws)? I've seen the Zman finesse bulletz and they look ok, but I'm specifically looking to T-rig the ned rig. Either trail it behind a mojo rig or run it with a 1/16 bullet weight up front. I want this to come through the grass flats easy like my larger Trig set ups. I'm thinking an Owner cover shot worm hook in #2 or #1. Or the VMC finesse neko hook may work.
  9. Thanks for the responses. I may end up keeping this rod. But I did let them know they sent me the wrong one and I was going to decide if I wanted to keep it. Otherwise they'll exchange it and return ship on their dime. I have a Daiwa Tatula 7'2MHR glass/comp rod as well. But I keep that threaded with braid/fluoro leader for chatterbaits through reeds and grass. That's been a good combo.
  10. I have a Curado 70 MGL and really like it. I tried out a 150 MGL and that reel is just as great or better. It's slightly lighter than the 70 and has 6 break pegs instead of 4. I love my Daiwas as well. Tatula SV TW103 reels are about as fool proof a casting reel as you can get. I ordered a Daiwa Alphas SV TW from Japan. Haven't gotten it yet but it's said to be a fantastic reel.
  11. I ordered a St. Croix Victory 72MHMF "Cranker" casting rod. They sent me the 72MHM "Power target cranker" by mistake. I was planning to use the rod for shallow 3/8oz cranks over grass flats (baits that dive no more than 3' or so), small wake baits, top water poppers (3" 1/2 oz) , and (maybe) 1/4oz chatterbaits. I figured the MH Mod-fast would do all that and I'd load the real up with mono. The MH Mod rod they sent me is a little heavier on the low end of the rating, same on the high end; 3/8-7/8oz vs 5/16-7/8oz. I could send it back no problem, but do the specs on the MHM rod match up better to what I want to use it for?
  12. Other than size, there doesn't appear to be much difference between this Tatula 80 and the 100. But as said, they bumped the price? I suppose because it's new + inflation. I'll probably pick up the SV 70 when the shops up here get them in. I just bought a Shimano MGL 70..... But I like my Daiwas and I like to buy things I don't need. Lol
  13. The spool on the SV is a shallow spool. Holds less line but it's roughly the same width of the Tatula 100s.
  14. I have a couple Daiwa Tatula SV TW103 reels. I cast weightless flukes and senkos with them and can bomb them a fair ways. The Tatula SV is almost a fool proof reel. You have to try pretty hard to get them to backlash. I just picked up a Curado 71 MGL today and paired it with a Curado 6'10"MF rod. Haven't tried it yet but it will probably serve as my jerk bait and/or wacky rig rod. I'm trying to limit my use of spinning gear as I enjoy using BC gear more.
  15. Old style Lunkerhunt stick worms.
  16. Yup, the last Saturday of June. They don't let us fish em pre-spawn or during spawn. Plenty of pike, walleye, and perch to keep us busy so can't complain I suppose.
  17. Thanks for the replys everyone. I ordered the Elite PF and it should get here Friday. Our season doesn't open until June, but I figured you never know how product supply will be this year.
  18. I took the Winn grip handle from my Lexa 300 and put it on the Fuego. Made a big difference in power. Made the balance of the reel way off though. Lol.
  19. Yes. I use 40lb PowerPro and it holds about 80 yards or so. If for some reason you need more than that, use PP Maxcuatro.
  20. In Canada as well. My frog reel is a Daiwa Tatula SV TW103. So easy to cast. In your price range.
  21. I have two of the SV TW103 reels and love them, but I'm wondering if the Elite PF (pitch and flip) is worth the extra cash? It's going to replace the lower end Fuego I currently have on my heavy cover setup. I pitch pads, mats, reeds, and deeper secluded grass beds. If anyone has used the Elite PF, let me know your thoughts.
  22. I was using a z-man project Z chatterbait today and had a solid hit. All I had left was the blade. It broke where it joins to the jig. I caught about five or six fish (bass and pike) on this particular one. Is this a common with these? I bought a few of these but previously have used the Elite one and never had a problem.
  23. They're fun to catch. But here in the summer they're all the smaller ones with the odd 5-8lb one. When targeting bass they can get annoying. In the early spring and late fall is when the big ones come into the bay a we target them.
