Minn Kota Edge + Lowrance HD 3 in 1 - mounting questions
Thank you, I will keep the skeg. The Minn Kota mount won't work unless I build a bracket to lower the transducer down. I am thinking of trying the side mount and building a bracket to lower it next to the bottom of the motor. One thing I don't know (which I will have to try out on the water) is how far down it needs to be to not impact the cone.

Minn Kota Edge + Lowrance HD 3 in 1 - mounting questions
I have a Minn Kota Edge with a large skeg which prevents me from mounting the transducer on the bottom as I hoped. I have two questions that I am hoping to get help with: Do I need to keep the skeg? The boat is a 17' 94 bass boat and I have read the skeg is mostly for protecting the prop, is that true? If I should keep the skeg, I was going to get a mount for the shaft of the trolling motor and then build brackets to sit it next to the head of trolling motor. If it's flush with the bottom, would the skeg block the beam? Thanks!

Help with adding a screen to HDS-9 Live setup
Great points, I was just thinking that if I move my 3-1 to the trolling motor I couldn't use it for idle scanning. Thus I would need a second "kit". The Elite FS 9 with Active Imaging 3-in-1is priced more in my range as long as it will network with the HDS-9 Live. I need to find where I can determine what is supported when they are networked, I haven't been able to find a diagram or documentation yet. Thanks for you help! Edit: Cableas has the 10" kit for $999!

Help with adding a screen to HDS-9 Live setup
I can't find compatibility on the lowrance site, I checked all the manuals for my version. Also if connected via ethernet, it doesn't seem like I will need another transducer as the manuals have the sonar/radar/mapping being shared if you use ethernet. The lowrance site also has numerous dead links which is frustrating. I emailed them hoping for confirmation on the networking setup and gps puck model. I found a HDS-9 screen only used for an ok-ish price, I bought the entire package for cheaper a few years ago...ugh

Help with adding a screen to HDS-9 Live setup
I have an older bass boat that I added a Lowrance HDS-9 Live kit to, no active imaging, only the 3-1 transducer. The screen is mounted near the trolling motor but I want to add a second screen and a GPS puck. The second screen would be the dash so I can idle around to scan and use it for directions to points. Do I need to use a HDS Live screen (they are so expensive)? Can I use a normal HDS screen and have the two networked properly to share mapping/points/etc? Also which puck should I use? I see they will be connected via weather proof ethernet, so I am unsure what kind of compatibility they have across models. Is the transducer specific for the functionality of the head unit? Thanks!

Silver Lake (finger lakes), NY - advice - warm days cold nights
Hi, I'm trying to get out on the water as much as possible and the closest finger lake to me is Silver Lake. I haven't fished the lake enough to really know where to find them, especially in the weather where nights are in the 30s and day temps are 50-60s. This week I went out and the water temp ranged from 40-45* based on location on the lake. I saw fish (don't know if they were bass) in the center of the lake where its ~35 ft deep. Fish were suspended from 10ft to the bottom but I couldn't get any to bite. I want to go back next Wednesday with a game plan. Simply put, I don't know enough about breaking lakes down esp with cold water. Docks were not out yet, there were no metal structures to radiate heat down like dock poles. I stayed towards the south end of the lake as I am using a Kayak with trolling motor. I can make a run to the North, it's on my list of things to do, the lake isn't large. The weather for the next 10 days for context, thank you!

13 Fishing G2 Inception Reel or Daiwa Tatula CT
I'm going to be putting together a spinner bait/chatter bait setup for next season and need to pick a reel. I already have a Daiwa Tatula CT and it's been great. The 13 Fishing G2 Inception causes that itch in brain and I wanted to find out for those who use it, how it is it? Thoughts on comparing both reels? I'm thinking a 6.x:1 ratio would be good?

Part came out of my minn kota - help? Autopilot 120
Joining FB won't happen, I wish they used forums instead of that privacy disaster of a site. You are spot on with the fix, it's the exact reply I just received from Old Towne ? I've attached the directions they sent me in case others find this thread.

Part came out of my minn kota - help? Autopilot 120
It's past 2 years since purchase so I believe it's out of warranty. I found the purchase paper work and it should be under warranty ? I went to the local Minn Kota ASC which was only 15 minutes away, I got lucky, however we couldn't find the motor on the minn kota site. We needed the parts diagram and parts list but no luck, we tried every number we could find and only found the motor itself. I'll have to call Minn Kota or Johnson Outdoors tomorrow and hopefully get some information. Does anyone know what model / part # would help us find the parts diagram? Thanks!

Part came out of my minn kota - help? Autopilot 120
While I was fishing this week, my Minn Kota got jammed and wouldn't spin anymore. I looked at the unit and found this piece sticking out and jamming it. I was able to pull it out but what is it? I need to replace it as I doubt it's a good thing, and the trolling motor didn't act as it should for the rest of the trip (spinning spinning spinning and then catching). I should have gotten a peddle unit and added a motor My finger is showing where it came out, assuming I remembered correctly. Also while lubing the shaft I found that the ball where my finger is pointed slides up and down. Not sure if that is suppose to happen? Maybe the part was to hold it still? The part Thanks!!

Silver Lake NY for panfish w/ son
Thanks! Hoping he catches a few, I have real worms and dried wax worms to try. Do you think any bass will be around docks this time of year? Weather has been pretty chilly, not sure if they would come up to the docks for warmth?

Silver Lake NY for panfish w/ son
Hi, My son is interested in fishing and I plan on taking him out on the kayak this weekend. Silver lake is the closest finger lake to us and I'm not trying to push the driving distance much farther yet. I was wondering if we will have much luck on Silver Lake fishing for any pan fish? I was thinking of using worms and a bobber with a split shot weight in between. Being that I don't normally fish for pan fish, is there an area on the lake that we should target? I think I can get him hooked if he can catch *something*. Thanks!

Guide for Okeechobee - Sept 3 or 4th - Recommendations?
Thanks, I'll have to roll the dice as it's my own chance this year. How does the high water affect the bass since the lake is pretty shallow?

Guide for Okeechobee - Sept 3 or 4th - Recommendations?
I'll be in Florida for the week of Sept 3rd for a conference and I have two days to tick off a bucket list item, fish the big O! I'm looking for recommendations for guide services for a single 8 hour day, I've also never hired a guide. No gear with be brought with me to FL, the guide will have to have the necessary gear. Who have you used in the past? What should I expect weather wise in FL at that time? Tips? Thanks!!

Kayak fish finder - Help deciding best unit for my use case and $$
Thanks! I assume I would need to buy the lake maps to load via the SD card from Garmin? If so, happen to know the price on them? I'll start searching now, the $699 price tag is hard to beat, so we will see how much the maps are. Edit: Maps seem to be $149.99

Kayak fish finder - Help deciding best unit for my use case and $$
Thanks - is the only difference between the two maps? The 93SV is out of stock. Edit: I noticed the 93SV comes with the GT54 transducer from Cabelas while from Garmin it comes with the GT56. The Garmin rep. told me the GT56 is the one to get, it's suppose to be better. Another option: $999 Lowrance Elite FS 9 Fish Finder/Chartplotter Combo - Active Imaging 3N1 https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/lowrance-elite-fs-9-fish-finder-chartplotter-combo I have to say, the way all the units are named/marketed/etc. is absurd. It does look like the HDS Live on sale is better than the Elite... Why does Cabela's include an older transducer when Garmin ships a newer one? Stuff like that is a shady way to save a few bucks and not tell the consumer.

Kayak fish finder - Help deciding best unit for my use case and $$
1 - The "mini-ultrex" functionality is limited, it cannot pair with any unit. I didn't know that until after I purchased the yak. 2 - Good feedback, thank you 3 - yes, it included the transducer. Based on the part #010-02343-01 it should have the Ultra High-Def SideVü, ClearVü and Traditional CHIRP transducer. 4 - I am going to use an arm off the kayak for the transducer. It has a spot to mount underneath (not sure if that's good for both side and down scan?) but it's already a heavy yak and I don't want to risk damaging it.

Kayak fish finder - Help deciding best unit for my use case and $$
I'm looking to purchase a fish finder for my Autopilot 120 kayak, but I am very new to the electronics portion of fishing. My in-laws will be giving me a gift card to Cabela's, thus I limited my searching to that retailer. Requirements: 7-9" screen - leaning towards a 9" screen. Ability to add a second transducer for Live scope/imaging/etc < insert whatever the brand calls it > Price can't be insane, ideally < $1500 with transducer for side/down scan. The options I found below are on sale, which helps, as I still need more camping gear. Mostly targeting Bass in NY (finger lakes / Lake Erie). So far I found two options: Lowrance HDS LIVE 9 Fish Finder/Chartplotter with transducer $999 https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/lowrance-hds-live-9-fish-finderchartplotter Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 94sv Fish Finder/Chartplotter Combo - Transducer $699 https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/garmin-echomap-uhd-94sv-fish-finderchartplotter-combo My only experience was playing with the Garmin unit at a Bassmaster Elite Series event. I don't need the Live scope/imaging/etc this year, I need to learn the side/down scan first IMO. Thoughts? -Frank

How to spool/knot - Lews ProSP

How to spool/knot - Lews ProSP
I picked up a Lews ProSP reel but looking at the spool I am asking myself, how do I spool line on it? It has a groove so the line and knot isn't sticking out but the holes with the material in the middle is throwing me off. Specifically what is the ideal way to knot the line? Do I try to get the line around the material in the hole? Thanks!

Kayak - ceramic coat?
I'm picking up my dream yak, an Old Towne Autopilot 120 next week and I was thinking of the best ways to protect my large investment. I have ceramic coating from coating my cars and was wondering if coating the underside and top would help with UV protection? Or are marine waxes the product to use? Any tips are appreciated, also the yak will be stored inside. Thanks!

Heavy rod selection help - frogs/t-rigs/flipping/punching
It's time to purchase my first sort-of specific rod for frogs/t-rigs/flipping/punching. My budget is $230 and I am leaning towards a 7'3" to 7'6" heavy extra fast. Thoughts on that setup? The Favorite big sexy or emperor fall into that range but i just found Dobyns has a lot of rods for < $200 on sale. I'm sticking to Tackle Warehouse as I have gift certificates. Dobyns has so many models that it's overwhelming. Any guidance would be appreciated, I've watched too many videos, analysis paralysis is consuming me. Also I am not fishing for anything but fun, if a cheaper rod will do and save some money, I am on-board. An example of a Dobyns rod I came across Dobyns Champion XP Split Cast Rod 7'3" Hvy XFast 736 736C SH XP. Frogs, Pitchin' & Flippin'. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Dobyns_Champion_XP_Split_Grip_Casting_Rods/descpage-DNCT.html

Fishing book for kids (kickstarter)
Disclaimer: I have nothing to gain by sharing this besides for receiving a copy that I paid for. I thought I would share a nice kickstarter in hopes that it could get funded. The book is "Let's Go Fishing: A Book for All Young Anglers". I know my kids would love this book and I picked up a second copy for my friends son who loves fishing. Fingers crossed that the book receives enough backing to push it through. It also has Ike and Jimmy Houston providing the forward. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/joshuamutters/lets-go-fishing-a-book-for-all-young-anglers
