  1. I dont think the fish mind it but i have a hard time seeing the line especially fishing smallmouth up north where sometimes you have to keep your bait dead still and watch the bumps and ticks. If its fishing rivers or current it helps drastically for me to see my line at all times too.
  2. I stopped by gander outdoors today for there 90% off all fishing items since sadly there stopping there fishing and hunting sections. Got talking to a guy working there and mentioned i needed some braid if they had any left and he showed me what turned into the secret stash. They had 3 3000 yard spools of 10, 15, 30 lb and at 90% off they were between 15-21$ each(and a 2000 yard 8lb floro spool for 9$). The only problem is the braid was in moss green and for the 10 and 15 i would much prefer any color brighter for spinning rod use. Is there any way to dye the whole spool of line? Im worried if i mess it up ill ruin the one good score ive gotten from any retail store.
  3. Probably just going to buy a rod when i get down there. With the way shipping has been its not worth risking having the rod sit somewhere for a week before they can ship it and after insurance im probably close to 25$. fishes in trees- why would are you choosing to use a telescoping rod while out on the boat? Also im going to look into getting a guide down there if theres someone with a decent price that way i can just set aside a day and get my bass fix out instead of looking at every pond wishing i could fish it.
  4. Im headed down to Austin Texas with my dad and brother to see the F1 race in October. There both huge fans and want to go to practice and qualifying and do as much as possible at the track. I love racing but i love fishing more than they like racing combined and being from New York, Texas in October seems like a fishing chance i cant miss. Im not bringing a full length rod down because its not worth the hassle to just fish from shore and i also dont want to bring a spinning rod for many reasons. So the question is do i buy a nice telescoping baitcasting rod to keep for future trips or is it better to hit bass pro and get a 30-50$ rod to give away at the end of the week? Also if your from around the area and know water around there with decent public access id appreciate it.
  5. Thank you for all the suggestions! Im trying to stay away from pfluguer in general ive had 3 presidents that all formed clicking and bad springs in the bail and the same with my supreme. I like the new shimanos they have come out with but its always so hard to tell what the difference is when you spend 30$ more for a better real. Also the diawas seem quiet nice and i might end up with one of those
  6. Im 22 years old work full time and fishing when im not sleeping. I just got invited to fish 2 different 12 week weekend tourneys with a friends dad thats pretty big in the bass fishing community in the state. Ive fished with him when he needed a fill in and weve always won money but i knew i didnt have the proper gear to be fishing for the amount of money i was putting up. I had a few instances where my pfluger president locked up on me and even a supreme that broke the bail spring. Anyways my friends dad has an IROD connect that im getting 4 spinning rods and a couple casting hes throwing in some curados for the casters but id like something cheaper than the the shimano c+ which he runs on all his rods but i dont know if i can afford them. Im more in the 100$ reel range but im here to see what everyone says and if its worth the 200$ Because if it is i guess im working overtime the next few weeks. Thanks to anyone that replys!
