I like a 6.3:1 or around there. I do the same with my squarebills too. Glass is good if your comfortable with it. Lotta guys are not though. Tend to be heavier and obviously have more parabolic bend. It’s all preference. I know guys who throw them on 8:1 and just turn the handle painfully slow. I’d rather keep my hand turning at a “normal” rate and have my baits act as they should. I personally use graphite rods for this application. I’m using an Edge by Gary Loomis, 7ft 2in medium heavy moderate action rod. It’s perfect. I had my revo on there first, but it’s just not needed for this app. So I jumped up in speed a little to SLX 6.3:1 works fantastic. I use that same reel with a dobyns 7ft medium heavy (dobyns has soft tip) for spinnerbaits. That’s one of my favorites to throw in rivers where tight casts are required.
