  1. It is muted, but it is not chromic. The chrome colors that lineup has is silver and pearl grey. Even then, they are not as chromic as, say, r2s biggie abalone shad or kvd 1.5 chrome sexy shad.
  2. This is Rapala BX Brat Carbon color. I actually got 2 of them from a lot sale from ebay. I am having hard time determining whether this is a clear water or dirty water color, because the color does not seem bold enough that when I fish stained water in early morning, it'll just diminish. At the same time, it is a darker spectrum of color, so may as well be a muddy water color, too. Any thoughts? *for some reason, I made a grammar mistake in the title. Apologize for that.
  3. it is a public pond - actually, a water body in a "dog" park. Park is organized by the county. There have been major park overhauls around the city to deal with very poor park hygienes. I don't think the pond itself is designated for fishing, so information for that is very limited. Also, who even fishes in the middle of the most cogested city (me )?
  4. Holy cow that is big. nice one!
  5. This is partly short-sighted, especially when 90% of newer fishermen are pond and shore fishermen. Of course, there are rigs that you can't get away with snaps such as drop shot, but any kind of ewg texas rigged senko (e.g., superline or even twistlock), you can get away with snaps. Coming from a pond fisherman myself, the reason for having snaps (almost) all the time: Time itself on the water. Shore fisherman in general have limited reach given their lack of mobility from boating. With that kind of situation, it is natural that shore fisherman spend very little time in the water. Personally, the average time I spend on a pond is only 1.5 and 2 hrs. Hence, having to change lure quickly is very, very critical. Unless you are 70% familiar with the body of water, adapting quickly is super important. Every time I go out fishing, I have to think to allocate how much time do I need to spend of power fishing and finesse fishing until I know power fishing works on that day and sticking with it. Where do you even store the cut line from re-tying? There is an inconvenience for pocketing the cut line and waiting an hour then put it in trash. You can't just throw it on the ground like you would on a boat. Unless you just catch a big bass, you needn't to retie. One exception is if you know your line is rubbing constantly on wood or hard structure. Apologize for ranting, but finesse aficionados are often toxic with any kind of altering the traditional ways of rigging, and I had to somehow justify the other way.
  6. I did go Puddingstone a month ago. It was tough, too. I have been trying to filter out my bait selections up to only 3 - 4" swimbait + underspin and finesse setup (drop shot and drop swimming), and it has recently been productive for me fishing at Magic. Hopefully, that'll be a good strategy for Puddingstone.
  7. Let me try guessing: Alondra Park and El Dorado ?
  8. "there" - I assume you refer to Legg lake? Legg lake is definitely a safe one; it is merely 10 - 13 miles from DTLA and isolated enough to be a very big green space. I am planning to go there in the next couple weeks. Willowbrook is just out of my comfort zone, but I still like going there when there are lots of people jogging around in the morning.
  9. (03/20/2022) Time : 06:30 A.M. - 08:30 A.M. Wind : ~ 7 MPH SSW Weather : Clear Air Temp : ~58 F Water Temp: * I did not have my water thermometer, yet, but considering I had been overestimating the temperature (due to being too used to with celcius), it is cool water. Started out with walking topwater (lunkerhunt impact commotion) Noticed the air ambient with a slight fog, I changed to my cheap cotton cordell gay blade to put in test, jig it like how TacticalBassins does - actually snagged a dink but came off right after. 100% my fault, because I repurposed the gay blade from being my keychain to an actual functioning bait. I had put VMC short round treble hook #6 from BX Brat, whose hooks I have changed to ewg treble. I alternated between squarebills and blade bait - no more bites. Pulled out my finesse improved slip shot rig (hopefully I am not disappointing a certain advocate ?), tried to slowly cover water while dragging - no bites. Conclusion: I had not been back to this city pond because it often feels insecure in the morning as the park is located in less prime neighborhood. Security had been my primary concern. It seems after having looked on recent youtube videos (and the LA Park and Recreation's effort to rejuvenate parks across the county) had me convinced for going back. Other than jogging trails, the dirt is borderline muddy. I hate having to clean shoes with stuck dirt beneath the sole; it is so hard to clean and I don't like dirting my car. For some reasons, bass is getting smaller than I remember first time going there. This is a part reason why I might manage to get a bite on a blade bait I saw someone went around the pond just jigging a dropshot merely 10 - 15 ft from the shore and had constant bites. Historically speaking, dropshot seems to be favorable in this water. Next time, I may go back with everything downsized - ~1.0 squarebill, 2" ish lipless, better bladebait, 3" underspin, and drop shot.
  10. Southern California *I thought my profile was obvious I did to the the extend where i stretched out from CA wildlife to Arizona. I find wildlife.ca.gov wasn't really that comprehensive (unless I miss something) - the only relevant article I found were just about black bass and some other species that are either native or non-native, invasive or non-invasive. It does mention all of the above, and every fish have "western" in it. Thanks!
  11. They are practically identical ?
  12. Took a screenshot from this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Gj-40df1V0&t=302s I used to see this in my former favorite pond, but I couldn't figure out if this is any kind of shiner or a baby bass.
  13. which what I did that day, but the access from the shore was too limiting compared to my regular ponds (suprisingly). depth 0 - 4 ft. stretches up to 30 yards from the shore, I couldn't imagine bass would hang out on something that flat unless there were grass or something. Maybe, I just spend not enough time finessing.
  14. I think I saw this from other thread. Do you think I can get away with a simple split weight?
  15. @WRB What soft plastic do you usually pair slip shot with? I immediately think texas rig senko. Also how far from the bait do you put the weight? Thanks!
  16. (03/18/2022) Water Clarity : 4+ ft Fishing time : Early Morning (6:30 AM - 9:45 AM) Bait Used: Chatterbait (Bluegill themed), Lipless (Ghosty color), LV-500 (American Shad), S-Waver 168 (Lite Trout), Wacky Rig senko (green pumpkin) Weather : Slight fog early morning, clear sky afterward; 60 - 75 F Notes: Starting from east shore going toward to the south I started with lipless crankbait early morning. I initially thought starting with a glidebait but east shore barely had 3 ft depth. The point direction is looking toward open water, hence the lipless to cover water faster. 40 minutes back and forth, moved to the south. South shore had a couple of piers. I switched to LV-500 and started bottom hopping from the edge of the pier. At home I realized even at that edge point, the water depth was merely 4-5 ft - too shallow to bottom hopping. At the same spot I switched to glide bait for the next 25 minutes covering water (slow retrieve with hops) - no bites. I went further to the end side toward the southwest, I started to fish both chatterbait and wacky rig ready to deploy alternatively. I circled back gradually to where I started - no bites. I had been observing boat people using finesse (probably dropshot, but not even a bite also. Strange.) TLDR: I got skunked that day. Nice view, though.
  17. Has anyone got their hands on it, and tried it yet? They have been out for a while now and I see zero threads or videos about it after its annoucement back in September last year. I am curious about your impressions using it + compare to the og Brat 06/03 or Big Brat.
  18. I'd be scared if I had an alligator in a city pond in the middle of big city. A school of Plecos? Must have been invasive.
  19. Nice looking place. Where do you even park your car, though? I looked onto Google Maps Satellites but I don't see a viable parking spot.
  20. Dark Sleeper comes to mind, but I don't think they come with a blacker color. Nor that I know what Pleco does in the water. I presume dragging would imitate it eating moss at the bottom. I have yet found if Bass eats them, though. At that particular pond, I don't know any asian market nearby. Another one that is actually near asian market, I don't see any wild pleco either. Also, I thought Plecos are poisonous due to their diet (Or at least of what I know before I came to the US).
  21. I was struggling to match the hatch in my local pond and suddenly saw a dead Pleco stranded along the bank. I thought It would need to figure out a pleco imitator if I knew Bass eat them.
  22. What color do you typically use? Is 2.5 too small for texas eye finesse? I was considering getting the 3" since it looks similar to easy shiner and 1/0 hook seems fit better with 3".
  23. The new bluegill looks way more bluegill than the og bluegill to me. As for now, I am leaning toward the lite trout.
  24. This. Out of all weeds, this one is the worst, and it is everywhere in LA ponds. Enough reasoning to convince me making the right choice buying one.
  25. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll wait others' opinions, too.
